I have a theory he's already scrapped an album and this one's the follow-up that he's been working hard on, due to the competition from Bowie and possibly Elton John in September Sudden changes and random involvement of new people suggests to me that he keeps changing things or its a project thats been regularly sidetracked (tours, Kisses, Oceans Kingdom, the music for Bungie, etc)
I think he's just taking his time, much like Peter Gabriel does, and he fully intends to out-do Chaos, MAF, and EA combined. I think he is looking to make his definitive solo album.
Absolutely I think that's his goal. He knows that time is not on his side.

I just wanted to weigh in here on the merits of Electric Arguments. I These melodic sketches do reinstate Paul as a master of memorable hooks, after years of uneven and flat melodies. .
Garbage! What are your credentials? :

Steady, lads. Easy does it! Yeah, I would agree that "Electric Arguments" is full of hooks (and that it ignited Paul's creative juices in general), but I would not agree that there had been years of uneven and flat melodies (except "Nod Your Head", perhaps!). I think MAF had some great melodies (it's the production and compression that bother me), and, while I know there are many detractors, I consider "Chaos and Creation..." one of his best ever.

Dear all, I have met his security chief Mark Hamilton at the hotel where Paul was staying during his Verona gig and had a quick chat - he said as fars as he knows the album is due to release soon. Saw Brian, Abe and Rusty as well - got an autograph of Rusty. After the show I have seen Paul as well crossing quickly the bar area for the private aftershow function. Well nice experience after having the huge luck beeing onstage with Paul in Paris 2011.... Dear all, I am sure the next album will be his absolute masterpiece.....I just have the gutt feeling......Steffen PS saw a lady at the lobby drinking tea next to my table and always thoughtm....i know her.....now i know quite sure it was Mary Mccartney

It's obvious that every person has a different taste - some people like certain albums better, other prefer something else. Still, going through this thread, I kinda get the feeling that some people here really underestimate the essence of Paul's genius - his versatile talent and his amazing ability to express and transmit meaning and emotions through so many styles and arts. I personally wouldnt call any of his artistic works less "proper", just because they dont match my taste that much. Really looking forward to Paul's next creation, and i've absolutely no doubt it will be proper as usual.

Yes! It's really kind of amazing how productive and diversified he is, which is a lot of what keeps him interesting for me. Just look at his output this century so far (is there anyone of his generation who can match this pace?): Liverpool Sound Collage Driving Rain Twin Freaks Chaos and Creation in the Backyard Ecce Cor Meum Memory Almost Full Electric Arguments Ocean's Kingdom Kisses on the Bottom (plus the live albums and reissues, etc.) I'm certain that this new album will be straight-ahead pop/rock, but I look forward to whatever else he takes on. Even after his singing voice goes, it's obvious to me that he will never stop exploring and never stop being fascinating.

Same here. I havn't forgotten how 'Off The Ground' was being described before its release as being "Paul's best album since the 'white album!" yeah, right :
That was a very fine album though, especially if you have "The Complete Works". It's one of his best albums in my opinion. Perhaps it was the return to an 'inky black' kind of writing and 'cleaner' production (as opposed to the conceptual grandeur of Abbey Road/Band On The Run, the lyrical/musical wackiness on many albums, the experimental stuff like Loup, Morse Moose and much of PtP, or the DIY nature of I and II - all of which I love by the way!) that prompted this comment?

Great !!

-I think that by "a proper" album we mean the kind of album where Paul is at his best. His classical music stuff is great but Liverpool Oratorio or Ecce Cor Meum are no way as good as Flaming Pie or Off The Ground. Kind of the same with McCartney II, that's almost like EA... -The Beatles released an album every 6 months or so and the quality didn't suffer. Quite the oppossite, when a composer "is on" he used to write great and to write a lot... -After so much wait I guess it will be a long long album, 70 minutes or so, kind of like Driving Rain... That would have been a double album if it was released in the 60s or 70s

Well, that's your opinion anyway.. And when it comes to taste there is no universal truth..

Exactly. Universal Here. Everlasting Now.

I happen to love Off The Ground and deem it one of Pau'ls modern best! (am also in love with Flowers In The Dirt, BTW). C&C is very close to my heart, too! Can't wait to hear the new HOT record! Maybe it'll be my favourite-est.

I would expect the new album to be more like 50 minutes or less. The general trend these days is to deliver a shorter album with punch, rather than a longer album with bloat. I would expect additional bonus tracks on a special edition CD, the download version, maybe a Japanese CD, and probably a vinyl single B-side. And of course we will all complain that we have to buy the same album over and over just to get all the extra tracks, until he releases a "complete" version months down the line, when we will all wonder why we didn't just wait for that inevitable eventuality. Or there will be a deluxe boxed set version right away, like Elton is doing. Mark my words! Start saving now!

Personally I think McCartney is just going to release an album like he always does. I don't think he's concerned about what Elton has done, or how high Rod Stewarts album has gone, or anything else. McCartney is just going to make the album that he wants, and that's it.
-
I just wish he'd hurry up and release it. I'm not getting any younger.
-
It might be a good album at least. And it will be a Paul McCartney album as he said somewhere, with ballads , rockers and midtempos. I do not expect however the definitive master opus of his life. IMO he has already written history several times. Just if you took Yesterday, Here there and everywhere, Hey Jude, Get Back, Let it be and Maybe I'm amazed he would have done it. A life's career. Even then he's done much more. And a lot of his songs (easily more than 15) now belong to the people memory, and who can in the world say so... I think nobody.. I am one of those who loves variety in his musical offer. From All my loving, Eleanor Rigby to Monkberry Moon Delight, 1985, This never happened before, Sun is Shining or my Valentine more recently. Even the frog's song is incredible and love it (I don't know why there has been so much fuss about it. We talk about the creator of Yellow submarine and All together now). Anyway, looking for his new album, it's a luxury to have him still creating and at the top of his game.

I'd say that he is telling the truth. The guy is a DJ in Louisville and if you look at his facebook page it has photos of other people he interviewed that weekend. I'm sure as with other media, he had a certain amount of access. He did debunk the rumor that a person had added those dreaded words "Listening Party" to his post but he did not. Thatis probably what MPL is denying...no official listening party took place judging by what he was saying. Simply invited by Paul's manager to hear it....Even the guy says that it has not had a final mix, nor has it officially been named nor had the track listing been set at the time of Bonnaroo. Alot of other news blurb and Paul interviews do support that it is done but not in what stage to release. MPL would have no record of who or how many people may have heard the alum prematurely. If Paul or his manager give a listen, they certainly don't have to clear it with MPL. As for not describing or naming songs...i'm sure it wasn't a venue where you could take notes and the group was probably talking while listening as well. If there is no title yet and track listing not being set, he probably saw nothing with track names on it. Sure it wasn't ideal situation to get a good listen with all of the mayhem of a festival going on. I don't think he has any reason to lie and he'd have alot more to lose putting that on his professional Facebook page as a farce. But with that, it sounds like it's not too close to release. Time will tell but that it my two cents....I wish it was out tomorrow but don't forsee that happening!

I tried to listen to an interview with Paul on Italian radio yesterday where he talked a bit about the new album. It was hard to hear what Paul was saying since the radio host was translating everything Paul was saying into Italian (and I don't speak Italian.) I think he mentioned that he hoped to release the album in October. Did anyone who speaks Italian listen to it? http://www.mobydick.rai.it/dl/portali/site/page/Page-798b0209-be1d-44d3-9379-926661abb651.html
