New in the Charts Thread

Well this is interesting: The song "New," having long ago dropped off the Adult Contemporary airplay chart, is now back at #30 as of this morning: http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255601 That's not a massive number of spins, but it's something from a record that seemed to be dead and buried in November. ...
Bruce M.:
...Don't forget, Pt. II of the iHeartRadio Music Festival with Paul re-airs tonight on CW stations. That may give a small boost as well. I know "New" made it onto the TV version -- does anyone remember if any other new songs did?
I saw it advertised; now I wished I'd bothered to watch it. If I were a betting man, my money would be on this: -Save Us -New -Live & Let Die
I still have it on my DVR, I'll have to check.

Highlites from this show was on tonight. I only caught one song & it was NEW.
-
He opened with "Magical Mystery Tour," then did "New" and then "Live and Let Die," I didn't watch it anymore after that.

Yeah, now it rings a bell that this was all that made the TV show. The actual concert that was streamed live online also included Save Us and Everybody Out There. Too bad they didn't make the TV version -- as I recall, Save Us particularly kicked ass, though maybe it's just that I was hearing the song for the first time. Still, this may help keep the album's recent sales resurgence alive.

I made the mistake - which I promised myself I wouldn't do - by listening to those songs first time when they were uploaded on You Tube just after their original outing on this special. At work, no headphones, volume on low. Didn't do service to how great they sound on a proper sound system. I agree, Save Us does kick ass. I won't fall for the trap again of introducing my ears to new material in the wrong environment. At least, that's the plan. One's inquisitiveness does get in the way of practicality on occasion.

Toris ! Please don't make that mistake again

I checked the Amazon U.S. album chart as the iHeartRadio festival was airing and "New" was at #61. Now, about 24 hours later, it's at #47, so it seems the show gave it at least a modest bump. And the title song is now back up to #26 on the AC radio charts -- still just 150 spins in the last 7 days, but moving up after looking quite dead a while back. So commercially, the album still has a pulse even if it's not burning up the charts.

I'm.... weak.... Have succumbed to that temptation too many times.... Never again!

Okay, my OCD is kicking in again. As of this moment "New" is up to #41 on Amazon here in the U.S., and the 2 radio singles continue to show signs of life: "New" has inched up to #24 on the AC chart, while "Queenie Eye," which had seemed to have run its course on Triple A, is back up to #29. http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255601 http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255603 KFOG, my local Triple A station, played both "New" and "Queenie Eye" on New Year's Day. While this is definitely not a Lady Gaga/Lorde/Katy Perry level of sales and airplay, it's kind of a shock. Most importantly, I think it shows what even a glimmer of continuing promotion can do. Paul really should get his a** back to the U.S. and play some shows and/or go on "Ellen."
-
NEW drops down to 92 on Billboard. Basically the bump to 60 reflected the First week sales of the Vinyl release in the US. cry I do hope he gehts behind this album with a NEW Radio Song. Appreciate would be my choice .

Hmm, well, it looks like the albums that jumped over him must have gotten a boost from various year-end charts. Very volatile few weeks for the charts right now. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

This tends to be a volatile period as Christmas-themed releases tend to rise and fall quickly. The chart that just came out won't include the period after the re-airing of the iHeartRadio festival earlier this week, so there's a chance of at least a modest bump next week based on that. Queenie Eye and New continue to rebound steadily on Triple A and AC radio, respectively, but neither will ever be a Top 40 smash. Paul needs to perform, live or on TV or both, to keep interest alive.

While watching some of the coverage of the events on New Years Eve (leading up to the ball dropping in Times Square, NY), I noticed a commerical for Paul's 'New' album what seemed like every 5 minutes...LOL It's either going to get a bump from that, or it's run in the charts is over...that's all I can surmise from that
-
Funny. I saw no commercials for it at all. I think that the song I Can Bet would be a great follow up single. That is if radio would actually play it.

I agree, really love that song !!

Don`t shoot me, I´m only the messenger. NEW drops to 162 on Billboard (from 92). I guess it`s time to say goodbye to any chart life hereafter. After a meagre 10 weeks in the Top 100 and overall 12 weeks on the Billboard 200. All we need now is a miracle...or an aggressive push for Appreciate, video, Starbucks download, PAs by Paul.

Tune in next week, I guess. Seems to me the chart hasn't really settled after the holiday season yet, seeing how crazily a lot of albums are bouncing around. I have a feeling Paul will work some "New" promotion into all the 50th anniversary appearances, so perhaps that will help, even if the album falls off the chart for a few weeks.
