New in the Charts Thread

I'd be surprised to see New back in the charts until he starts playing U.S. shows or there's some other publicity directly about the album.

Interesting reply... But what do you mean with it?
-
The album is getting back to charts in the places where he played like Peru, Venezuela, South Korea, Japan etc...this is what I said. I think that album could go back on US charts because of the same reason.

Looking at the silver-lining of this recent health-scare, it's not exactly bad for business that Paul's name has been in the headlines, and to make the world appreciate the fact that he's still alive n' kicking. I anticipate a well-publicized comeback -- which will benefit the second-phase of NEW's promotion.

Do you have links to these charts? I'd love to see.

A repeated request, but, alas...
-
Has 'New' gone platinum worldwide yet? 'New' has probably received the best reviews (by fans & critics alike) for a Macca album since 'Tug of War'.
-
I'd say the new album has seen its best reviews since Electric Arguments. Critics were blown away. If you find that debatable, I'd say Flaming Pie may be his best-reviewed album since BOTR.

Bruce M. I saw that on a forum called ukmix.

Japan Oricon Weekly: 51 (23) 22 NEW 1,450 / 89,272 source: ukmix And the shows there were cancelled

It appears that Paul will be fine, and will recover completely from this illness in Japan, which is fantastic news. This story got a good amount of media attention; I wonder if it will nudge New back onto the album chart. I know: not the best circumstances, but it seems possible, at least. We won't know till next Thursday, though.
Nope, nothing.

You could have provided the link instead of making us hunt for it. Here's what's posted re: Peru: http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104692 And here's Japan, showing Paul back in the top 10 albums earlier this month: http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15868&start=4775 There may be details in there somewhere about exactly what these charts are and how solid they are, but I haven't had time to look.

And here's something odd: In the same site's US charts thread, they show Rockshow as being #40 on the video sales chart. Is this possible? http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104691&start=25

New has been officially certified Gold in Japan by the RIAJ for shipment of 100,000 copies. Source: http://www.riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/201405.html And it is on number 17 on Uruguay charts Source: ukmix

Good to see one of my threads last the distance Come on New keep a chartin

Okay, now that Paul's on the road in the U.S. and has a new video out at the same time, it seems like it's time to revive this thread. In the past, Paul's tours have kept an album on the Billboard 200 even after the initial publicity faded ("Chaos" being the most recent example of that). So, can the tour and video bring "New" back from the dead? I'm going to stick my neck out and say yes. Per HitsDailyDouble, the #50 album last week sold 5,555 copies: http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi . While that's as far down as they go, it seems safe to assume that one can crack the top 200 with significantly fewer sales than that. If just 5% of the crowd at Paul's shows buys the album, and a handful more buy it after seeing the video, that should get the job done -- not top 50, but into the top 200 at least. So I'm going to predict that we will see "New" back in the Billboard chart shortly. Not the chart that comes out this week, most likely, as the first show came right at the end of the week, but very likely next week. If I had to predict where on the chart it would land, I'd say somewhere around #175 or so, give or take a bit. And yeah, that's just a guess, but it's my guess and I'm sticking to it.

This could happen if Paul's team sold New at his shows. But they don't. Why is it that the merchandise tables at Paul's shows don't sell any of his CDs? I suppose it's because the T-shirts generate more revenue than a CD, and some people would buy the $12 CD as a souvenir of the show instead of the $40 T-shirt.
-
Paul's band members sell their albums at Paul's shows, right? I know they have in the past anyway. It makes total sense that you can Brian and Rusty's CDs but not Paul's. Sigh...
-
They should have a suggustion box for some of these obvious ideas. But it would just get filled with "come play here in my town" "I love you" "I saw you..."...oh well. I think Michelly is correct in saying that they probably think people would buy a CD as opposed to a $40 shirt.
