New in the Charts Thread

It would be nice that the Out There tour would come out on DVD just like Back In The U.S tour did.

lol I have a better one! It would be nice if "The 2005 US Tour" had officially released a CD of the tour to support "The Space Within Us" and more! Like Back In The U.S. tour did with the CD.

Maybe they could do a DVD without all the ...ahh nevermind. No nice way to say it...attractive ladies like Loretta with her low neck sweater.

I don't know what to think anymore. After months and months of futile requests to hear songs from NEW on radio stations in my city, I can no longer play the "age card": It's not ageism that's influencing programmers to avoid putting Paul's new album on heavy rotation: They just don't friggin' care about anything Paul McCartney has done after The Beatles and Wings. Why do I come to this conclusion? A couple stations in my city are wearing out Chrissie Hynde and Tom Petty's new singles. I give up.

It's like they've never forgiven him for "Silly Love Songs" and "Goodnight Tonight" or something. I don't know what it is, but there's just a bias there for sure.

Well, okay, during this tour, the Beatles' "1" re-entered at 179, and this week it's 186. No "New."

Ya disappoint me, my friend. Think about it. It was a direct response to your previous post.

How many units did it sell? New sold 75,000 the first week, right?

(from Billboard) The band's new Hypnotic Eye arrives atop the chart, selling 131,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 3, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's the best debut sales week for Petty since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991, and his best sales frame overall (debut or otherwise) since 1994, when his solo album Wildflowers sold 161,000 in the week after Christmas. http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6207083/tom-petty-1-album-first-billboard-200-hypnotic-eye-heartbreakers

Geez, if he can't do it, why can't Paul. Frustrating.

For one thing, Tom Petty is getting airplay.

He is? I just checked the Mediabase charts on FMQB and at the moment it's pretty unspectacular: Mainstream rock, 46 spins in the last 7 days http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255599 Triple A, 549 spins http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255599 I don't see Petty's new record on any other charts. That's about the amount of play the "New" single got, or a bit less, in somewhat different radio formats. Both records, of course, picked up a few spins here and there that these charts don't catch -- noncommercial stations, a spin or two on classic rock here and there, etc. -- but like other aging rock acts, Petty is getting nothing out of Top 40 or Hot AC.

I'm not the biggest fan of this Petty album, a few songs are really enjoyable...going to have to play it more perhaps and let it g grow on me a bit! In comparison, I like NEW much more and from the very beginning. I'm wishing they would sell the CD at the concerts. People need to hear it more!! It's a great album!

I would love that so much!

And see that' s the Problem for me. I've nothing against Tom Petty but he's not in the same league as Paul. So really doing about the same on Radio isn't exactly Good News for Paul Though it might be uplifting for Tom Petty.

Well, all 549 of those Triple A plays must be from the one in my city -- because I am hearing it constantly.
