FourFiveSeconds- new collab. with Rihanna, Kanye and Paul
-
Not bad, kinda sad that Macca, who once was so larky doesn't dare sing anymore on collaborations like this.
-
It has also been announced that Macca is co-producing Kanye's next album. RamblinRed

REJOICE ! I feared for the worst on hearing that Paul collaborates with Kanye. And now we have the second good track coming out of that. Paul has absolutely kept his integrity with both tracks. It`s not him bowing to modern dance beats but today`s top selling artists bowing to McCartney`s melodic craftsmanship. As for the vocals : I really wouldn`t want Paul singing "I´m fourFive seconds from wildin`". That would be ridiculous.

JoeySmith:
The best collaboration Paul's done since Ebony & Ivory. Has #1 written all over it.
For me, the best collaboration involving Paul during the last 10 years or so (not including the usual suspects) was the 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' thing...although that was a charity event obviously utilizing an older song (but admittedly, the fact that I always liked the song, then was (pleasantly) surprised to hear a version with Paul contributing makes it a biased opinion on my part)

Another stripped-down, pleasant surprise. However, the same criticism applies: Paul is largely absent vocally. I can understand why they are doing this (his voice would reveal his age and immediately, though unfortunately, turn off their biggest age demographic of listeners), but as a Paul fan it'd be nice to hear him more. I have to admit that its a clever approach, almost like they're sneaking him into a hit by utilizing his unique melodic instrumentation. I'm holding out hope that one of the future collaborations will prominently feature him singing, in whatever distorted form that would sound like in a modern pop song...
As a McCartney fan, these songs hold no interest for me. I want to hear him vocally and just playing instruments does not cut it. To each their own - lol.
Exactly. None whatsoever. He must have had a reason to get involved, but it isn't readily apparent. :

Yes, exactly, THEY are the ones reinventing themselves, not Paul. Kind of interesting to realize that Paul has done very little playing on other people's records (outside of Linda, Denny Laine, former Beatles, and his brother), whereas George did a lot of that for a wide range of artists (hello, Belinda Carlisle!), and so has Ringo. Usually, Paul produces or sings or maybe writes a song, but doesn't play. Maybe that's what feels weird to a lot of people. Along with the prominence of his collaboration credit, yes, I know, but so far these two songs have virtually no other instrumentation BUT Paul's playing. Isn't that worth a prominent credit?

I like the new track. It's not at all what I expected. And it's not commercial. It's confounded everyone's expectations, which I think is great and artistically brave on the part of all 3 of them. I've seen all sorts of amusing hand-wringing among Paul's fans, Rihanna's fans, and Kanye's. LOL. Just looked on iTunes in the U.S., and the song is No. 9. But I'll be surprised if it's a big hit.

This song is much better than Kanye's Only One. To be honest, I'm surprised it took Macca this long to collaborate with some of the "hit makers" of today. Everybody in the industry respects him without reproach, yet when he releases an album and a single, nobody is there to help him push it up the charts. If Macca is smart, he have a few collaborations on his next album. Let's just hope he doesn't wait another four years to produce another album. Strike while the iron's hot. I'm proud of Macca for stepping out of his comfort zone, though he's no stranger to doing that. But I'm hoping this will hit the Top 10 as I have only been alive long enough to see hime do that once. Spies Like Us hit #7 (US) in 1985 about 4 or 5 months after I was born, so I'd like to see his name high up on the charts at least once in my life. I'm interested to see what else they have done. I still think they're holding back a club hit that's a little bit more upbeat. Hope they let Macca sing a few notes. Even if it is just blended into a chorus. Go Macca! You rock! Keep breaking the barriers my friend!

Nice melody. I've got an astrological reason to be interested in Paul&Rihanna collaboration But the lyrics... well, I guess if someone is 'talking trash' than he deserves all these words

I find what's happening very interesting and refreshing. For one, it appears very likely that Kanye's new album will be very stripped down and organic -- and based on these two songs, certain;y some "White Album" and "McCartney" inspiration throughout. Paul's been smart not to appear on the vocals yet, though you figure he will on one of the next ones. And I'd love to see one with a killer melodic bass line. I'm not a fan of either Kanye or Rhianna, but I've love seeing the respect they are giving him on these songs. And by the way, you have to figure they will perform this live at the Grammy's next month.

Bottom line Paul is a songwriter it's his trade , I suspect we are going to see a lot more projects like this from Paul. You can clearly hear his gift for melody in this sweet little song. Nice to see him writing potential hits again , so he's not centre stage but maybe that's how he likes it these days

So who's this new hip-hop star, McCartney?
-
First people complain about Paul's voice (not me) Then they complain that he's not singing : Poor Paul, everyone always complaining!? I don't know how he deals with it all, really... I really liked the song straight off! That means I'll like it even more later... Good on Paul for always trying new things!! I'm impressed that Kanye and Rihanna are singing with Paul and that I like both songs! All great....hope it does really well, fingers crossed Just watched an interview with another well know musician, saying music is in his blood and he'll be making music always... I think Paul is the same... Just fantastic! I'll always be interested in listening...
-
I like it. I'm totally baffled that Paul fans are objecting to this. Get a grip, people. He's producing good music with some of the hottest current artists.
-
I don't mind this one. It's tolerable. That's as far as I can go at this point. Lots of hate about it throughout the Internet. My question is, what's up with the promotional photo? Is that a wax version of Paul, or is it the real thing? Why bother trying to look younger than you are? He doesn't look real. Sad.

Did Paul cowrite this, or does he just play guitar on the track?
-
Trying to be open-minded...

Yes, Paul co-wrote the song. It has a clear McCartney melody structure. If one listens carefully, you can hear shades of 'Another Day'. It will probably be at least another Top 40 hit for Paul, hopefully a Top 10 or better. Good to see Paul on the charts again.

I heard that someone else was playing the guitar.
