Only One- new song by Kanye West, featuring Paul
-
This is cool. But it hardly counts as Paul being back at the top of the charts.

Paul deserves to be back to the top of the charts in the U.S.!
Nobody is going to see this as a Paul McCartney song.

Far from the "collaboration" I was expecting. Paul barely has his fingerprints on it.
Huh? Paul wrote the beautiful melody/music, plays the electronic piano, & provides background vocals. Its the minimalist approach to the music, a perfect fit to the lyrical content, that really makes the song standout. Paul particularly wrote the book on minimalist music with his late 60s/early 70s work from White Album to Red Rose Speedway, so I'll be thrilled if he returns to this style. Also, imo, the subtle use of auto-tune in the song was probably a choice of style over necessity. The lyrical context is from the perspective of an outsider, from a spiritual place, speaker to the singer. In this context, the autotune actually conveys this feeling well. Paul deserves to be back to the top of the charts in the U.S.!
This song will be in the top of the charts because of Kayne not because Paul is featured. I would rather see Paul reach the top of the charts on his own solo work not on the back of Kayne and I fully understand that will not happen.
I get what you're saying. But from everything I've read, this is a true collaboration. They wrote the song together from scratch. Its not like they took a Kanye song & put Paul's name on it to give Kanye some "artistic validation". People will give Kanye a bad time because of his past behavior/his wife, but his talent cant be dismissed. Just look at the allmusic reviews of his past albums.
IMO - You barely hear McCartney vocally if at all and I don't consider playing piano on a song a big deal in relation to Mr. McCartney reaching the top of the charts. The chart position would have more meaning to me if it was like "Ebony And Ivory" where both icons literally shared lead vocal on the song.

I really hope you're kidding with your posts, and if not you really are giving me a good laugh with them and the paranoia about Paul's legacy. Because some folks don't know who Paul McCartney is, his legacy is tarnished?

But please tell me how some folks not knowing who Paul is is tarnishing a legacy that is over 50 years old? How is doing a song with Kanye (who I've stated before, I'm not a fan of but admit the song is touching) going to tarnish a legacy that is already sealed?

I weep for humanity with posts like these....

A chance I am being slightly flippant here, but Dan Aykroyd was in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Blink and you miss him. Paul's contribution here might be bigger, but I just don't see this as a Paul song at all. If it was a true collaboration, his voice should've been at the forefront, 50-50 with Mr. Kardashian. And if it goes to number one, it shouldn't be anything that gets slapped on to the hat of Paul's Number Ones. Nowhere near it! It's the lemon on top of a gin and tonic. No more.

Not sure that post is legit but someone who doesn't know Macca? Reminds me of when Paul was shocked to read in 1987 that some kids were calling radio stations asking who George Harrison was when he got the GMMSOY hit... I'd never heard a Kanye song before (I think) but I must say I quite like this, in the sense that it reminds me of Stevie Wonder's early (and good) 70s songs. The "autotune" effect is obviously done on purpose, like on the early Madonna 2000's recording. It's too bad Paul's voice can't be heard more (or at all).

Actually it is more embarrassing that these people does not know who Paul McCartney is which is quite sad IMO. I assume they are fairly young people but when I was young I had heard of many artists that were not people that someone my age may enjoy at that time especially if they were legends like Sinatra.

In the other Kanye thread, someone posted that the background vocals are someone else, not Paul. (Ty dolla $ign, whoever he is when he's at home)

Paul is credited as co-producer, co-writer, background vocals and plays the only instrument on the song. If there are people who think someone has to have a lead vocal to be responsible for the creation of a song...well, then I wonder how they can be Beatles and Paul fans in the first place. According to the press release, the song also resulted from improvisations by Paul and Kanye working together. That makes it a true collaboration, unlike "Ebony & Ivory," which Paul wrote alone and then brought in Stevie as a guest. One of the reasons why I'm a fan of Paul is because he's not afraid to experiment, and he can also still reign in his ego. The embarrassing moments of Paul's career are when he can't do that, and when he treats "collaborators" as simply sidemen. I'm not with the fans who think Paul should have pulled the ego card and insisted that he have a co-vocal just because of who he is. These are clearly highly personal lyrics for Kanye and it's right he should be delivering them. Paul's contribution of the melody and keyboard playing is just as vital to the song - it gives it its distinctive hook and makes it so catchy, underpinning the lyrics even when they're somewhat wordy and not flowing as easily (not a knock against the lyrics, I find their sometimes awkwardness perfect for the message of the song). I would rather Paul be a vital contributor to a critically acclaimed hit that I can't stop listening to, rather than solely responsible for a terrible song I could barely get through once (Hope for the Future). Also, those tweets ARE jokes. A lazy journalist screencapped about five of them, not realizing that the one who originated the joke was shown with a vintage photo of Paul as their Twitter userpic! That person has since confirmed on Twitter that the tweets were indeed sarcastic jokes between him and his fellow Beatles fans.

All this. Please scrap McCartney's name from half of the Beatles catalogue certifications, he only was there when the song got written and only performed on them.

Also, more music coming very soon. Ty Dolla $ign, to Rolling Stone: "Me, Rihanna, 'Ye and Paul [McCartney] got a song about to drop as well. [..] It's gonna drop soon. I heard they shot the video recently. I don't know what the final title is, but I know it's crazy so just be looking out for [it]". http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/6429372/ty-dolla-recording-only-one-kanye-west-rihanna-paul-mccartney
