The one he said he'd most like to be remembered for...Maybe I'm Amazed. But Here There and Everywhere is one of the best songs ever written also.
Add to those Calico Skies.
When I think of the quintessential Paul ?love? song, I am thinking the slow ballad with of course ?l-l-l-love? as the theme?. And the piano at the forefront. One of these should be a prerequisite of/for every album he releases, in my opinion. Maybe I?m Amazed (the live version) is naturally his best example since The Beatles, even if I prefer the original raunchier version?. My Love is another great example? I don?t think he has put anything out since which betters those two?. Only Love Remains tried hard. I do like that one. I reckon Beautiful Night qualifies. I really, really like that one. My Valentine lacks melody for me. And Motor of Love is just too much of a constipated effort. Again, I do think one of his slow love ballads is sadly, sadly missing from New.
It's the melody of My Valentine that makes it brilliant -- the way it subtly slides from minor to major and back, gently underlining the moods. It's genius. Reminds me a lot of George Gershwin.

Sounds like I will have to give it another try. That sort of stuff is just a little stilted for me. Might be because I wasn't a general fan of the Kisses on the Bottom concept. Reminds me of his age. Or maybe more, my age! I prefer Paul when he has an instrument in his hand. I preferred the Run Devil Run approach. And even then, I prefer a Paul or John album of originals. As do we all. That being said, John's version of Be My Baby on the Lennon Anthology sends shivers up my spine.

Footprints is a beautiful sad love song all about loneliness and lost love , I think it works better as a love song than Only Love Remains . It's one of the standout songs on Press To Pay
-
Footprints makes my "best of the 80's" McCartney album, but I don't rank it as one of those classic "ballad" love songs.... I rank it in the same vein as "Distractions" from Flowers.... Great songs, but not what I rate as the typical ballad.... But I do think it is an underrated gem.
-
I like Struggle, Scared, and Hosanna from the NEW album.
-
Kittay beat me to it--I was gonna praise "Scared" and "Hosanna" as great or pretty great love songs. They've each really grown on me. Sometimes they play in my head repeatedly like "ear worms"
-
"Dance Till We're High" is a classic McCartney love song. Too bad he released it as a "Fireman" issue as no one heard it. Paul should re-release his 3 Fireman CDs as Paul McCartney (& Fireman), similar to what Macca did with Wings.
-
My Valentine is very AWESOME...sounds classic
-
For me "My Love" is "the love song", but there are so many others, like this: I do Your Loving Flame Bluebird
-
As someone else mentioned Dance Til We're High was really GREAT! Winter Rose/Love Awake is great with the video with Linda at Lympne Castle, Hold Me Tight/Lazy Dynamite/Hands of Love/Power Cut is another one I really love.
-
Macca sounds so tender and warm on "Hosanna"...gives me goosebumps (the good kind)... you can pretend he's trying to seduce you, though it's probably intended for his latest towering amazon, LOL. "Scared" sounds so plaintive it quivors a bit, which fits in with the plaintive rather pleading quality and theme--that song must be pretty doggone good, to keep playing in my noggin at times Be nice if more realized his most recent love songs fit in with his pantheon of all-time greats, too. Not "My Valentine" as I've still not heard it enough for it to grow on me (I write as if I'm the most important listener, LOL). But "Only Our Hearts" made quite an impression only having heard it twice. It's super.

Hosanna and Scared, huh? There's an old saying. "If you can't say anything good, say nothing at all." So, in response to Hosanna and Scared, I offer: "...................................."

To me "Warm And Beautiful" is the epitome of a McCartney love ballad
-
I love "Dance 'Til We're High" as well I also think "1985" is a great love/lust song, in my book anyway.
-
My Valentine and Scared are both great Classic McCartney

If we're going there, "Helter Skelter" kicks ass in that dept.

Well it does contain the line, "When I get to the bottom..." ops:

My latest fave would be My Valentine. Such a rich melody, kind of dark and haunting, too. I was really disappointed with the production and arrangement though. It felt so lame for such a great composition. In the big picture, Maybe I'm Amazed and For No One never fail to blow me away. Absolute genius!

That's not "love" -- that's "animal lust."

Oh, and whilst there is no major discernible piano, I do think "Through Our Love" is a beauty. Afterthought: Actually, this is probably my fave Paul "ballad" of the 80's. With No More Lonely Nights, of course.
I had sort of forgotten that one. Love his vocal. I really liked "So Bad" from Pipes of Peace...same album. Just watched the video of that....Linda, Ringo, and ???Who are all those other musicians that seem to be playing/singing on that song?? Anyone know? :
