Would be curious what others think. My initial gut feel is NO. Like most people here, I am a huge Macca fan and my concern would be Paul's 72 year old voice handling Christmas standards that everyone knows. I think there would be one caveot for the opposite opinion on the subject. If Paul happen to find the inspiration to write a brand new, good to very good Christmas Song then I think it would make a lot of sense to tackle a complete CD of Christmas songs. A great new original (and possible new McCartney Standard) would be the imputus for Paul to possibly have a hit album on his hands. I know this is a big if (New Christmas Song) but the rest of the CD could be very plausable provided it met this criteria: 1. songs that would fit Macca's 72 year old voice 2. some great lesser known tracks that might be hidden gems 3.add some songs from his back Catalogue that would fit the theme 1.... there are so many Christmas songs but Paul needs the right producer who would be honest with Paul. Maybe the producer Paul would hire would have a track record of producing successful Christmas albums. Using the Kisses on the Bottom CD as an example, there were some songs where I thought Paul sounded real good and others not so much. It is a matter of Paul and the Produces finding a few where his current voice matches the songs well. 2... Like Paul has done with Kisses and Run Devil Run, the lesser known gems would be a huge plus. I just by accident bought Emmy Lou Harris' Light of the Stable CD and it was filled with these lesser known gems. Songs like Light of the Stable, Christmas Time's A Coming, Angel Eyes, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and There's a Light are examples of Christmas songs I hadn't heard before that I am now loving. 3....The obvious Catalogue song that could be part of the Track listing would be Wonderful Christmas Time (possibly the closing track) but Paul has a couple of other songs that might fit the theme. I'm thinking of Dance Till We're high (Electric Arguments) and Once Upon a Along Ago. Are there any other existing Paul songs that might also fit a Christmas theme. Please let us know. What do you think? Could Paul do this without a new original Christmas song or like me, do you think that this is a must to even consider a full Christmas album.

Let me start by saying no, I don't think it's a good idea. I have a feeling others will soon come along and be much less kind about it, but ANYWAY.... IF he were to do it, I agree, it would have to be mostly obscure tracks. Nick Lowe did this successfully last year with his "Quality Street" collection, putting together a collection of obscure covers, one or two more famous ones, and a couple of low-key originals with a sardonic edge. Unfortunately, "sardonic" is not one of Paul's strengths, so even if he were to do an album of low-key obscure gems, it would just be seen as an extension of "Kisses On The Bottom," and it's way, way too early for another covers album from Paul at this point. He's already got this animated film soundtrack lined up for the coming year, and I would imagine he would be eager to do another original solo or Fireman album after that before even thinking of doing more covers. As to your third question, I actually put together a Christmas playlist of a lot of recent "holiday" releases (mostly obscure, which I downloaded from NoiseTrade, a totally legit website that allows you to "tip" the artists, but I digress...) and, just for kicks, I threw "Hope For The Future" in there, and hit shuffle. I found that the song fits right in!

Short answer to the question posed by the title of this thread: No. NEVER.

I'd say no, but I'm not a fan of Christmas albums in general. Also, it would probably delay whatever other projects he was working on, and I'd rather have a new rock/pop album from him.

No definitely not. I really enjoy the couple of Christmas songs he's done and that's enough. In my opinion (for what it's worth) Christmas albums by the one artist very rarely work. eg Ringo's album, although I love Ringo's music I can't listen to his Christmas album. And Bob Dylan's Christmas album is simply awful. But like all music it's a matter of personal preference and I'm sure that lot's of people will disagree with me.

I always came back to the songs he was singing,

I'm thinking Elvis is the only one who can get away with a Christmas album.

If Paul wants to do one. The Chestnut song was nice. I don't think that's the name. I just call it that. ops: Everyone does a Xmas album. Paul should do what he wants. Paul always does what he wants anyway.

No to a Christmas album but a yes to a winter themed album. Kate Bush got it right with 50 Words For Snow.
