Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED

Looking forward to receiving my copy tomorrow. How's the sound? It's not the ultra compressed sound of MAF is it? I can only listed to 4 songs on that CD before I have to switch to Chaos or Revolver.

Vast improvement over MAF in that regard.

Only ran through it once (listened to a few last week). All in all pretty good, some are quite fab really. On first listen my least favorites are these 3: On My Way to Work Hosanna Scared

Okay, just had my first listen! I am going to save most of my comments as I think this one will take several days at least for my thoughts to settle. Just one observation for now: Like another poster, I was initially jarred by the sound of Paul's voice on Early Days. But as the song played it started to feel like Bob Dylan in one of his more folky moods, and maybe even a bit of Gordon Lightfoot. This isn't a sound I can think of on another Paul record, but I like it. As for the rest, I really need to absorb it a lot more. It took at least half a dozen listenings for "Chaos" to really sink in, and I think this will be the same.

As for the voice: I think, as a rule, a 71-year-old guy gets to sound like this, no matter what he sounded like when he was 24. "It's allowed," as Linda would say.

Still listening. "Appreciate" is great. Best so far. I hope there's an extended version.

Does the Deluxe version at Best Buy and Target have the 14 track list?
Yes! Plus the DVD.
I got the target one in Canada today but no DVD with the deluxe... I just find this different version in different countries to be silly...I love the japan song more than 2 or 3 songs off my deluxe version but I cant get it here....

OK -- I guess I'm good. 12 songs 2 Bonus tracks 1 hidden track. I thought there were going to be 2 hidden tracks for whatever reason.
Let's not get greedy audi!

Back from an early morning run to Target, purchased the Deluxe edition with the Rendevous DVD for $16.99, regular edition doesn't come with the DVD. Numerous copies of both there, hopefully they will all sell today. Now to listen!
Please confirm that the one you got has the 2 bonus tracks!! Thanks John!
That's right, both bonus tracks are there, plus the hidden one, Scared.
Thanks John! I was waiting by the door when my son came home with the CD from Target! He cracked up! I'm just finishing listening to it--love it more each time I hear the songs!

Ok...they didn't have the exclusive one available... Thing I would like the most is the japan exclusive song....it is great! it just didn't want to wait 2 or 3 weeks to get it!

Plastic Mac:
Lennon's early works like 1970 and Imagine are by far his best solo work. Of course he's had his moments on his other albums but the two albums I've mentioned are far and away his best work since the Beatles. They are the equal of Ram and McCartney.
1970? What John Lennon album is that? Do you mean Plastic Ono Band?
-
I actually think this could be his best album SINCE Tug Of War! It's definitely one of his most consistent solo albums!

On the nice little write up on the inner album cover I noticed that Paul mentions that they recorded more songs than show up here and the others may eventually come out (can't remember his exact wording and the album isn't close by). Anyway, I though that is a nice hint that either Struggle from the Japan version and/0r the missing in action everywhere Secret Live of a Party Girl could emerge in a few months. Add another song or two and hook it up with a DVD of one of these small promotional performances and he will breath new life in the sales of New.

Early Days and Scared are modern masterpieces, brilliant McCartney songwriting hasn't left him just yet

Real good album - way to go Paul McCartney.

One thing I'll say about this album vs. MAF: on MAF, many of the production touches sounded like someone just tinkering around with tools they didn't really understand, while on NEW they are handled professionally and appropriately. While I'm mentioning MAF, I'd say that it seems Paul has kind of borrowed that nostalgic medley idea from that album and applied it to NEW in the (non-medley) sequence of On My Way To Work / Queenie Eye / Early Days / New.
