Return to Pepperland
-
I know I am so late to the party on this one but I have only just discovered this on UTube1.# Why oh Why has this not been released as an album!!!!!!!!!! Its fantastic. I realise a couple of tracks ended up being updated and put on albums later but there are some real gems here that, to my knowledge, have not been released. Come on MPL........

I have heard some bootlegs of these recordings, reportedly begun as a follow-up to "Press to Play" but then abandoned, for some reason... I think it's like the McCartney 80s album that never was, or that was only hinted of on some songs on Press to Play with synth drums and state of the art production bombast. And one of the reasons why I wish the archive reissues to speed up.

Great song

...and now I have just found McCartney Rarities Vol 1,2 and 3!!!! Some stuff I have heard but 4 and half hours of songs...... I just don't understand why this stuff has not been released Some of it is pure McCartney gold. Anybody have an explanation? Sarah

I would think for the most part that Paul thought the songs were either not good enough or maybe they just didn't fit into the flow of whatever album he was doing at the time. He's always been pretty careful about sequencing the songs on an album so they flow nicely, musically and lyrically.
-
.....well that is such a shame when there are so many unreleased songs which sound great. ...just also found Red Rose Speedway Alternate recordings.......
-
Some of the songs might not work today. Twenty years later Who would have guessed Nelson Mandela Still under arrest Atlantic Ocean might make more sense today.

Return To Pepperland would be another 'Press To Play'. The main thing is that Paul wasn't in a good moment in that time. That's the reason of why he threw all that material and decided to do "CHOBA CCCP". When he doesn't feel comfortable, he goes back to his roots. Great decision. "Flowers In The Dirt" came after that period, so, he chose the good way. If "Return to Pepperland" would came out, we would have an horrible version of "We Got Married" and "Beautiful Night".

I like Squid. When was the last time he put an instrumental song on an album? 1983?
-
Well, there is the hidden bonus track "I've Only Got Two Hands" on Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Very cool instrumental actually.

I like Squid too.

The smooth, lovely song "Lindiana" is a highlight on "Pepperland" although its melody and tune are not all that distinctive, which is rare in Macca's songwriting. It's a sweet romantic croon light and easy on the ears... its smooth aural quality reminds me of his "My Little Koala" which I also enjoy and find dreamy

'Same Love' has a couple of good melodies. With a little work (and luck ) it would be a good song.
-
It is also on a bootleg cd pizza and fairytales. It has some good songs but would have been a strange album in some ways.

There's one called "Figures of 88" too. I just ordered a CD of it last week off of Ebay.

Big Day is about 5 minutes too long.

Wait, how do the lyrics go again?
-
I'd have to look it up. Some songs are hard to memorize.

Paul should have put out a series of Cold Cuts albums starting in the early 1980s.
-
It's been so long that I think it's time for a Cold Cuts box set.
