there is something that Paul should do and IMO there is nothing wrong with it ... someone like Elton John did it continuously all his life, probably other famous singers over 50 secretly did also.. so whats the problem? I wish Paul would do it.
I'm suggesting a medical solution here vocal chords surgery I don't see anything wrong with it ... this golden throat brought happiness to the world for 5 decades, how about to giving it a little care.
This sounds like a very reasonable idea , as long as it isn't too risky. I also just things he needs a bit of a rest right now...
If he really needed vocal chord surgery, he wouldn't be able to sing at all. I know a guy who plays John in a Beatles cover band who lost his voice during one of their shows and he had surgery for polyps and is fine now.
It's been a long time, so my details may be sketchy, but i believe that Elton John had that procedure in '87. I remember reading about him commenting that he felt that his voice was going out during his very popular Australian concert, where that live version of "Candle In The Wind" became a gi-normous hit in 1987. By the time Reg Strikes Back came out in the '88, the difference in his voice showed tremendous improvement.
you are right about Elton John details, and listen to him now, he sounds the same as 1988, but it never sounds the same as the 70's era. For Paul, I think he can get the best medical experts to check if this would be dangerous or not! (maybe he did?!) there must be a solution.. I cannot understand how Eric Clapton still sounds the same (if not better) than his early singing days!
are any other parts of elton as good as they where when he was in his pomp.....................................warning..the following link is quite scary http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/sir-elton-john-moons-sir-1261323?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hitting-a-bum-note-sir-elton-john-moons-sir-michael-caine-in-prank-on-his-yacht

back up singers are NOT the problem...i think we all know what the problem is !
I think some are getting carried away because I mentioned backing singers - I was thinking more along the lines of what Linda brought to Paul's songs, some say she couldn't sing yet no one has ever come close to matching her harmonies since, lets be honest here, none of his current band can sing let alone harmonise.
None of his current band can sing? Abe sings phenomenal harmonies over Paul, and Wix, Brian, and Rusty are blend beautifully...I don't know what shows you're listening to...

Some dancers like he had at the Apollo for 'Hitch Hike'.... Cannot see Wixy and the boys donning little mini dresses and camping it up so Paul will have to splash out a bit....add a brass section, hot backing singers, a quartet and some vocal warm up and we're laughing!
I didn't like those at the apollo. Distracting.
I appreciated it. I liked the retro look of the costumes/makeup, etc. And if you know anything about The Apollo -- an historic r&b venue where ALL the greats have played -- it was a fun and appropriate tribute.

For the venue, I guess. But for Paul's show...no.

So true, being listening to all Maccas live albums over the last few days, comparing songs, vocals etc. & by far the worst two CD's are Back In The US & GENYC on nearly every level but mainly the band, give me WOA, Last Flight, Tripping & Paul is Live anyday.

I guess it boils down to personal preference...

Abe is a FANTASTIC singer!! I think Paul would be lost without him in concert, as Abe very often helps "cover" Paul's vocals, adds strength to them, especially on the higher parts Paul used to be able to do alone.

Elton seems to have an ok bum. but I never knew he was a flasher. I also never knew he had a feud with Madonna. Since both are friends in the McCartney camp, I wonder if when having a soiree, Paul and Stella will use Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock to choose who gets the invite.

Macca gets a bad rap from many 'cause of his brief Olympics stint? That's a load of Paul bashin' bull crap 'cause I saw the first part of the closing Olympics ceremony featuring Brit music, "Our House" and that one by Blur "Park Life" or something like that, and both those songs are quite bland and ordinary and sort of "nothing" and Paul music including his Beatle songs are so VERY superior to such mediocrities as these--and yet Paul is the one battered for the Olympics thing--what's wrong with this picture??? A lot. Then they had Annie Lennox singing something and that was better than the start, and a snippet from a David Bowie number which was too but these too vastly pale in comparison with Paul McCartney songs. So I don't want to hear another word or read anything else about this, I've gotten it right for once and for all--really !!!

Wait a second, Parklife by Blur is far from ordinary. The whole Parklife album is far from that. That's all I wanted to say

Now now !! Time wait's for no man ( unfortunately ) In fact it's hard to get my head round that I am about the same age as Macca was when I started getting his solo stuff in 1985 !! And he was looked at as a rock dinosaur even then here in the UK, lord help him now.

Macca was bashed for one big reason.......his performance was really bad, which followed a dodgy performance at the jubilee, joe public watches & comes to the conclusion he is past it & can't sing anymore, & i'm afraid it's pretty hard to say otherwise because it was very poor. And what makes it worse is the fact he thinks it went well !!??!!

Yep, so Paul needs to start touring again to prove that Joe Public is wrong.

Abe is great as a vocalist, but also as someone who is always positive and smiling, having a blast, and I think that he helps Paul relax during shows with his personality, as well. So yes, in more ways than one, Abe is a great help to Paul.

My favorite of the lot is Tripping the Live Fantastic--not the young vocals Paul used to be able to command, not the older, strained vocals, either. Just right.
