Wings Over America & Rock Show DVD Reissue CONFIRMED

Michelley:
I prefer cardboard sleeves. They take up less space. They're more environmentally friendly. They have a warmer feel (like the old album jackets). I never liked the plastic. I've bought a lot of CDs in cardboard cases and never had a single one damaged. Today I went to Best Buy to get the WOA special edition (or whatever they're calling it) to listen to in the car. And guess what? I got the last copy! Wasn't expecting that. It only came out yesterday. Hopefully they have more in the back but all the ones on the shelves were gone ! So there are apparently some Wings fans in my area.
Bought the last copy at my Best Buy as well. Best Buy website says it is backordered. This is selling like its the 70s all over again!

I was happy to find a deluxe set on eBay for less than it was going for on Amazon. It's coming from Canada and I'm in DC, so the estimated arrival date is June 8. However, according to the tracking it was already in NY yesterday, so I'm hoping it'll get to me sooner than that.
-
After I bought mine from the best buy site, it was back ordered, but mine was already shipped. this happened when good evening ny came out. as I write this there was a tornado warning seven miles from me, luckily it moved the other way!

C'mon guys how does it sound, is it a good remastering job or not? I want to know about the music, I'm just getting the standard edition, so does it sound very improved or what?

The re mastering is incredible. On my Ipod I have both "old" and "new" back to back and you can definitely here the difference....I am not to hot on technical vocabulary so I will just say it all sounds "sharp". And no scratches on my discs either

It sounds brilliant. But I'm moving through the music slowly. Savoring it. Actually I'm moving through the books slowly, too. I saved the big tour book for this evening! As for the music, I'm only up through Lady Madonna. But I've reached a conclusion that I think no one else has ever mentioned before: Paul's voice is a wonder.

Sound is amazing. Bass is really upfront ( ). Paul's voice is sublime. The whole album just sounds so 'warm'. Love it..

The sound is phenomenal...like they're playing in the room with you. I've already listened to it three times all the way through since Tuesday

I'm so annoyed. I ordered the deluxe set exactly one week ago and it still hasn't shipped. I contacted the company and they said I'm first in line to get the next set they receive from the supplier but they couldn't tell me when. I'm tempted to cancel the order and order it from somewhere else but that would mean I still wouldn't receive it for almost another week.

If the remastered stereo CDs sound this good, I can't wait to hear the surround sound mix of the Rockshow Blu-ray!

That's where I ordered mine from. The tracking number says it was in NY too & it should be delivered today...we'll see. I'm in Ill.

I have a promo copy of Rockshow for review. I checked it out tonight. The sound is absolutely wonderful. I cannot have wished for anything better. It's all subjective, but the levels all gel in a way that they didn't quite in the cinema. I don't use rear speakers, but I still opted for the 5.1 setting on my equipment and it was played back through 3.1, but I was knocked out. For me even more satisfying than the cinema experience.

You're making me drool in here! Rockshow will not make the Argentinean cinema until June 27

I checked my porch when I came home last night and found my delux set waiting for me. I'm going into a Paul coma today

One of the best parts of looking through all the books in the deluxe set is what a fascinating study it is of the late 70s -- the fashion, the hair, the architectural design of stadiums, the way the shows were promoted (signs outside the arenas would advertise "WINGS" but also list all 5 names of the band members on the sign). Bell bottom jeans everywhere on men and women. Men with some of the oddest hair styles I've ever seen. Howie Casey had some seriously wild hair. People just looked so much more ... interesting back then. Less conformity. The WoA set is quite the period piece. Far more so than the Ram Deluxe Set. In Ram, Paul, with his beard and fair isle sweaters and rubber boots came across as oddly relevant in 2013 -- since beards have been quite the trend lately. The following image from Ram, after all, makes Paul look like the total hipster in 2013: Beard? Check. Camera? Check. Coffee? Check? Fair Isle sweater? Check. But the images from WOA look anything BUT current. Satin trousers. Mullets. Bell bottom jeans on men!!! So different from today.

Got my deluxe box set today. Very nice package. My tour itinerary booklet had a loose piece of cardboard inside, and seemingly exposed binding. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe the piece of cardboard is just there to protect the photos from the screws that hold the book together? Just hard to tell whether this is part of the packaging, or my set is damaged.
Hello Mine had the same strip of cardboard, I believe it was, as you suspected, for the protection of the photos (maybe in more humid climates the metal studs could rust?)
Thanks!

It's not damaged. I think the cardboard strip is to protect the photos. And the cover is supposed to lie flat like that (otherwise it would rip, I would think). And the exposed binding is part of the rustic design. It's meant to look like a personally assembled keepsake, in a way. That tour booklet is ... gah. Amazing. So many cool elements. I just flipped through it quickly and I can't believe the level of detail. Sheesh. Just read through the band history as well. Lots of great new interviews with all the players.
Thanks!

I'm liking the sound of this, looks like I will need to pick this up.

Have got to agree with whoever said this and Ram put the first three reissues to shame. The last two have been just how to do a deluxe edition of an album - remastered music (listen to that bass and he was in the vocal form of his life), documents, photos, tickets, setlists, etc.etc..very impressed. I am however concerned at the 'extra' tracks that are making up the extra disc on each release. What have we really had that is rare or 'new' ? On WOA surely there were soundchecks rather than 8 of the same tracks but from a different venue.............. My issue is that at the rate of one a year it's going to be about 2030 before all the albums are reissued - (if that is the plan) by which time CD's will be extinct ! They need to be released in batches of three.I know that is expensive but............. you don't have to buy them all on release day. Pink Floyd for example released most of their entire output in one go.
