THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL

The most polite, respectful thing I can say is that I was going to buy the deluxe box set, but now I'm not. I guess it's that simple. And I definitely feel like I'm the one on the losing end here. Disappointing. I apologize for the negativity.

The best news that came out of this was the mentioning of Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway! Glad to hear it!

I think this is fair. They surely mean well, but we're the ones having to bring 150 bucks to the table.

Ridiculously overpriced. I am having second thoughts, out of principal. But I will probably weaken and buy it. But then again, I can't be stuffed with downloads, so maybe I won't. But I will probably weaken and buy it... maybe. The whole thing should never have cost more than $60-80. Defeats the purpose being this ridiculously expensive and kinda is a slap in the face of a lot of fans who really cannot justify that expenditure.... $150. That's a lot of money. Ridiculously overpriced for the average fan. Many of them being the ones who want to buy it.
-
And just for the record, it is $176.29 in Canada. That's a lot of money to me.
-
Well that was an interesting series of answers. Interesting in that they didn't actually resolve anything and just confused me even more. I think they're seriously overthinking the situation and I get the feeling they don't know who they're marketing to anymore. I admire Paul for being forward thinking and wanting to keep up to date and modern, but this streaming thing is bizarre. The people who are willing to spend the best part of ?150 on a set of 4 cds are not the people who are arsed about streaming/downloading. Why try to force people into that!? I couldn't have afforded the set anyway, but this would certainly put me off.
-
Full disclosure even with this I'm buying the set. With that said it's simple: "Give maximum value for each dollar (or pound, euro, etc.) spent." Give a stellar product at a reasonable price.

Hi Shawn. You're in good company then - I won't be buying it either. Nor any of the subsequent box sets. And now we read from Paul's manager that he wants to "drive" people into streaming and downloads - I take it that's drive as in driving a herd of sheep or cattle to whatever trough constitutes a revenue stream. At least we're clear on what Paul's people actually think of his fans - they think we're swine. One wonders if it has ever occurred to these wannabe bankers that a lot of people don't even have an internet connection, never mind possessing the wherewithal to manage downloads. But then, those people are irrelevant - they're likely to be older fans, the suckers who spent decades buying the records and putting them at the top of the charts. Their usefulness is at an end. Here's a tip, Paul - you need a new manager - ASAP.

It is amusing how the aspiring bank manager has tried to shut down vocal opposition by not quite promising a 25 CD box set; that is - STFU about FITD or you won't get the (maybe) 25 CD set we have (maybe) pencilled in for release in (maybe) 2075.

Well, I'm just annoyed by allowing myself to be duped by the term "Archive Project." This is nothing of the sort - it's a simple remaster series with a few extras thrown in for those who are foolish enough to want to waste their money. Bear in mind that most other artists can do these box sets with much more physical content at a fraction of the price. If this had been an "Archive Project" it would have genuinely opened the archives. Paul and Scott Rodgers would have ensured that as each album was released, the studio sessions for that album, including all demos, outtakes, publicity materials, and so on, would have been made available through the download and streaming services they now seem so keen about. So if I wanted to hear Take 5 of San Ferry Ann or Take 6 of Letting Go, I could go and spend my 99p on either, regardless of whether they're any good or not. Similarly I could have had my choice of any one of the 1.2 million photographs they're bragging about, instead of, or as well as, the 100 or so in an overpriced box set. Surely the point of having an archive is to make it available through such an Archive Project. I'm sure that MPL shells out an absolute fortune to consultants and managers about a way forward; either they're being fleeced as badly as the fans are, or the advice they're given is ignored in favour of the kind of mentality that left the FITD tracks off Pure McCartney.

Shawn:
It looks like a really nice set. The DVD is relatively packed. But overall, it is simply overpriced, and not particularly good value for the money. I think I will opt for the 2LP version. At least I will get the demos. And I never owned the album on vinyl, having bought it on CD in '89. But I will miss out on 25 tracks in total, plus all of the DVD material, which is disappointing. I just can't justify paying $176. Its too much. I have quite a few of the tracks on 45's, etc. But there are some that I've never heard. And it would be nice to have them all in one place. As for Put It There, I could dig out my old VHS copy, I guess, and hook up my old VCR, haha, but the DVD would be more convenient. I guess I'm just disappointed. I bought the other deluxe editions. But this one is more than double the price. And the download thing just rubs me the wrong way, on top of it all.
Maybe it is me but I just really find it amazing they he will re-issue this album but not include one song on it for "Pure McCartney".

good for you. heres one better: I feel like he is milking the @*&^ out of some pretty mediocre stuff. There is no need for FITD, or Press To Play reissues.

I can't wait for Wild Life and all the family photos and things that go with that one!! Delighted to hear that especially love any Linda and kiddo memory photos that hopefully, most likely, will go with that one...
-
Not that excited about Wild Life as it is my least favourite Paul album, but I'm a sucker for Paul so I'll be buying the super deluxe edition anyway. But the album won't be great in terms of bonus material as there's not much demos etc. Well except for Mary Had a Little Lamb & Give Ireland Back to the Irish (Yay...). But Red Rose Speedway will be great as the bonus stuff writes itself with the double album plans etc. I think most of the none album songs for RRS is better than the actual album

It's a tricky one to market, too. They'll probably go with the "hear the birth of a great band" angle, emphasizing the raw energy. But they'll probably include that "Bip Bop/Hey Diddle" acoustic track yet again!

It sounds like Scott Rodger is saying that the individual album reissues will continue, as long as they're still profitable. But he makes it sound like they're teetering on the edge with that already. I do hope they learn from this FITD experience, though. His explanations are a bit of a muddle, it's simply justifying decisions that have already been made, not wanting to add cost to a project that was already expensive for them to put together. It still makes no sense to me to have a physical product, and not include all that music on a physical disc. If people want to stream, let them stream. If they want the physical product, let them have that. I don't see how they exclude each other. They're different audiences. At least the downloads are higher quality than MP3s. And as MetalGod said, others will step in and create "the fourth CD" no matter what MPL does. (Yes, I will still be buying this. I like the packaging of this series, and the interviews, and the photos, etc.)
