I got an email that it has shipped from Collectors Choice!
Did you pay almost $130?!
175 USD fixed retail price over here. Just saying.
I don't see how this set is worth anymore than $75-ish. Although it literally just occurred to me that this is the first time on one of these releases that Paul has to share most of the royalties with someone that he doesn't "control" basically...Elvis Costello. I bet he's the reason this is higher. His name on the tracks takes a bigger percentage therefore, MPL raises the price to make up for Paul's loss. I love 'em to death, but these guys are a bunch of greedy old men.
Yep, greedy and in a way it makes me laugh. Making a big deal out of the re-issue of FITD but it was not good enough to have one song from it on "Pure McCartney" - lol.

I ordered the deluxe edition this morning from Amazon Canada. It was $20.00 cheaper today than yesterday

As I think some of you know, I am as big of Macca fan as you can find. I love his total career...early Beatles, mid Beatles, last period Beatles, Wings, Solo etc. I'm not a fanboy...I just love his music. While I am such a huge fan, I still believe in "value". I am also not a collector that I keep everything I buy in a nice bookcase. Not really interested in the fancy packaging; I buy Macca for the music. As far as this package, I will be plenty happy if I get the 2 CD package from any of the big Retailers for around $20. That will give me primarily what I want....the remastered FITD CD (I don't even have my original CD any more) and what I am hoping...some really good demos of Paul and Elvis. I will love playing it in the car. At that kind of price point...that is a steal. I grew up lower middle class and my parents taught me about value. While I could afford it, I don't see the value in paying well over $100. for the super deluxe version. Not putting others down, this is just me. Can't wait to get the 2 CD package.

Nice! I won't get mine delivered till tomorrow.

I bought the Deluxe Version from Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet, but I assumed I'd be able to download the music from the CDs like I usually can whenever I buy a CD from Amazon. That doesn't appear to be an option now. Will I be able to? It's so much easier to get the music on my devices if I can use the Auto Rip function. Would be really obnoxious if I can't. (Especially for that much money.)

I hear ya' on value. I'm known to have deep pockets, short arms & fish hooks for finger nails. The only physical Cd's I buy are remastered Doors & Paul McCartney. I download music for free & haven't purchased a cd in a very long time except for the aforementioned.

So Paul, the double CD costs ?12.99 on Amazon but the 3CD, 1DVD and book cost ?134.99 on Amazon. Do you really think a CD of outakes, a DVD of bits and bobs and a book are worth ?122? Some of us have been fans of yours for the past 54 years; others for 54 days and differing periods in between. Don't you think we deserve better than this rip-off price? You've already had two bites from this cherry already: the initial release in 1989 and the remastered release in 1993. Also three bonus tracks from 1993 re-issue are missing from 2017 version. Come on, we don't expect you to give away your work but you ain't short of a bob or two, are you?

I've read many of the posts of people dissapointed with the price on here, and I find it hard to disagree - it's the same reason I came on to post ! I'm devasted . This is the reissue I wanted the most, but because it's so much more expensive, it looks like I won't be buying it ... Buying the standard cd and vinyl represents far better value. The dissapointing thing is , I'd really like the book , AND the band demos . I haven't heard them before - ( already got the acoustic ones and the put it there DVD. As someone mentioned earlier - how can they justify an extra 122 quid for a book, cd and DVD ?! It's not as if the price will come down now like past releases- it's already out

Only thing was this (and all of Paul's music) was tucked way in the back. A brand new release! I had to bring it up to the front of the shelf...lol!
_____________________________________________________________ LetMeRollIt Thanks for the info. I bought my 2Disc set "today" at Target. Minus the special vinyl single that Best Buy is offering, I paid 13.99 at Target. Including tax I paid $15.03 I actually stopped in my local Best Buy after Target and did see Flowers in the Dirt on their CD Shelf. They had it for $18.99 ...had I known they were selling it today for $16.99 I might have bought it and returned the other copy to Target. As others have said, you have to go on-line to get it. I'm not a collector and don't have vinyl player, so for me I'm fine with what I bought. In fact, I started playing Disc 1 (the FITD remaster) on the way home. Sounds great For others, both retailers have it and it certainly represents a great value. I would get there as soon as you can to get the "sale" prices.

Agreed! Very happy with the price for the standard 2-disc set. And I love the vinyl bonus. I did that when Pet Sounds came out for the Beach Boys. They had the 7" single promotion as well. Very cool if you love collecting records! I was very excited on the way home! Rolled the windows down, sun was shining, cranked the volume, and "My Brave Face" starting playing. This was one of the first albums that made me become more of a "Paul" fan than "Beatles" fan. Once again it sounds fresh and new! But also nostalgic!

Isn't that strange? But your concert tickets are less than those in the US, right?
That's right oobu! In the U.S. our concert tickets for Hot Sound package and Gold & Silver V.I.P. I know are higher. Probably for "regular" tickets too.
That has simply to do with the fact you can't pull that trick in Europe. McCartney pushed his tickets up to over 100 euros last time and had to give away half of them, it's their loss. We set a limit. That you can triple the price of a concert ticket in a few years AND have people seated in America, doesn't mean it's a fair or a normal practice in other territory, let alone be comparable. And a boxset in retail is a completely different ball game, you can't compare that, haha. Let's say I hope the retailers I saw stocking them have a 'return to distributor' deal on them.

The guy at the check out said someone just before me bought two copies and was so excited for the vinyl exclusive!

Got the deluxe Archive set yesterday and have sampled some of it. The acoustic demos sound crystalline, just superb, and the addition of "That Day Is Done" is very nice there. That disc ends with an unlisted track of the "The Lovers That Never Were" demo with a few overdubs (like piano) on it, very cool. I wonder if that appears on the 2CD set, too. But wow, the band demos! We were just enraptured listening to these, it's almost like "the collaborative album that never was." The core band on each track is Paul and Hamish and Chris Whitten, with Kevin Armstrong on guitar on some tracks, and Elvis on some tracks doing vocals and guitar. While you can hear Elvis's voice on those tracks, they put Paul front and center, and it's so thrilling to me to hear his lead vocal on "So Like Candy" and "Playboy To A Man"! The band arrangements are not as elaborate as on the released versions of these tunes, but still they are more developed than I expected, particularly "Tommy's Coming Home." This demo of "You Want Her Too" is the clear basis of the released version, but so much less fussy, focusing more on the vocal interplay between Paul and Elvis. For the "Don't Be Careless Love" band demo, all they took from it was the vocal, which I had always found somewhat repellent, to be honest, but somehow it sounds miles better on this demo, again with a less fussy arrangement. None of the other demos seem to have made it to the finished project in any form, but each one has solid musicianship, not just "run-throughs" at all. The odd thing is that there are clearly keyboards on some of these tracks, but there is no musician credit for them, except for one listing Paul playing piano, but there is obviously more than that. (Not saying they sound like they were added recently; they sound totally like they were done at the time, including a bit of organ.) The 21-minute "Paul and Elvis" video is all clips of the two of them in the studio, running through and recording several tracks. Paul does considerably more clowning than Elvis, who looks more like he just wants to get down to business. During one sequence, Elvis is seen putting down a lead vocal for a version of "My Brave Face," another thrilling moment for me, as a huge Elvis fan. (No contemporary interviews or any narration.) Then there's a 7-minute video of various other recording session moments, focusing a lot on the producers, including Trevor Horn. One thing I'll say is that the role of his bandmates on this whole set is played WAY down compared to the promotion at the time. It doesn't seem that they had any involvement in the reissue at all, as far as I can tell. You do get a bit of Hamish clowning with his angel wings in the "This One" making-of documentary. The coolest thing in that doc is Paul sitting outdoors intricately explaining the photographic process that creates the effects in the video; he understands and conveys it strikingly well. We've only watched a couple of the videos so far, and we haven't listened to the remastered main album, but I looked through the books and booklets. Nice presentation, as usual, and the outer cover is stunningly gorgeous with that shimmery quality. Still, I'm a bit dismayed that one entire booklet is taken up by various alternate shots of that cover, with very little text. I haven't read the main book yet, but it doesn't seem to have as extensive interviews with Paul as some other sets, just quotes scattered through the new essay. There are some reprints of text that came out in Club Sandwich from the time. Of course, there are many great photos in it, though, including shots of George Martin, Phil Ramone, and the Cars' Greg Hawkes (producing "Motor Of Love"). The usual Coming Soon card is replaced by a card that says "Other titles available in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection," with pics of the album covers. On the other side, maddeningly, it says to check out the website "for more information on forthcoming releases." I didn't mean to write so much, but there you go! There are certainly things to criticize about this set, but there's also a lot to love. I won't tell anyone that the price is justified, but I'm happy to have this anyway. Not happy about the download situation either, but I'll do those today sometime. Can't wait to hear those "cassette demos," which are totally unheard up to now, as far as I know. Cheers, and bash away!
