I would think the secret gigs or pop ups would coincide with the release of the new album.
Agree, but here's what Paul said, from whatever interview this came from recently:
Finally, on the subject of retiring, McCartney comments: “I was talking to — name dropping, clunk — Willie Nelson. I was talking about this whole retiring thing, ‘cause you know he’s older than I am even! And he says ‘Retire from what?’ and I think that just says it, you know ‘Retire from what?’
“So no, I love it, I enjoy it…so we’re going to do some little gigs in July, don’t know what those are going to be yet. Note to self, must try and figure it out ‘cause they’re approaching fast and then we do some bigger productions and things after that.”
i think at least one will be this month
Where do you "think" it'll be?
This is the perfect type of show to "wing it" (lol) and do solo songs never done before live. People are not paying big money and little gigs are less formal. I am not saying he does not have to play some hits but I think these type of shows give him more freedom and wish he would take advantage of it.

Hey everyone.
I figured I'd create this thread so that all of the small gig rumors and info are contained within a single thread instead of being scattered around some of the existing ones. It also seems as though they will be separate from the Freshen Up tour. (If this is an issue, mods: feel free to close this one out or merge if possible)
So far the speculation seems to be heavily on LA, New York, and possibly England. Maybe even a gig in between the Austin City Limit shows?

NYC is always a good place because there are bunches of small places he can play and being in the media capital of the world gets great exposure.

Among the dozens of possible small venues in the NYC area, which ones might be the best bet for a surprise McCartney concert? He's done the Apollo, Highline Ballroom, and Irving Plaza, so those are always candidates, though I'm not sure if he would necessarily return to ones that he's already done.
How about the Beacon Theater, Bowery Ballroom or Music Hall of Williamsburg?

I doubt he would repeat surprise gig locations as it takes away from the surprise of it.

How about BB King's - lol.

There are so many venues that they could use in NYC .

When Paul played Irving Plaza in 2015, there were definite signs that a NYC concert was occuring the night prior (several media outlets were reporting it and tickets were given away on Jimmy Fallon to an "undisclosed NYC McCartney concert). Did anything like this occur when he played the Apollo or Highline Ballroom? And did anyone experience random ticket giveaways through this website before? One of the articles I read stated that registered members of PaulMcCartney.com were given tickets through a random lottery.

The Apollo wasn't a surprise like The Highline. I'm pretty sure there was a solid month or so of notice on The Apollo. I listened to the whole thing in my mother's car on XM radio, froze my ass off and caught a cold.

Brian Ray just posted a picture flying above what looks like England. Could be to record the album or it could not be....

The band could just be rehearsing in England prior to their tour this fall.
There were photos posted on both Rusty and Brian's instagram pages last year and the year before of them flying to England and spending time there, with one of them writing "getting ready for 2017 tour!" or something like that. It was just a little earlier last year because at this time last year they were on tour.
Even though it's mostly the same setlist every year, with the addition of some new songs this time, they seem to always rehearse in England before going on tour.

There does seem to be some speculation going around (on this website and others) that Paul may make a guest appearance at Billy Joel's 100th MSG concert. Considering Brian's picture, might it be too soon for the band to return to NYC by Tuesday evening for a potential "warm-up" surprise concert like he had done for Irving Plaza in anticipation of SNL 40?

Are we *sure* Brian's picture is over England? There are portions of PA/NJ/NY that look a lot like that from the sky, and the sun would have been up by the time Brian posted that pic -- a good time for a red-eye landing from LA.
BTW, the Billy concert on Wednesday is not only his (heavily hyped) 100th MSG show, but it will fall squarely on the 10th anniversary of his show that closed out Shea Stadium when Paul appeared as a special guest.
Also BTW, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are in town this week for shows at MSG. Lots of potential collaborators around. Just sayin'.

It does look a lot like England, but it *could* very well be in the US!
Thanks for pointing out the anniversary - what a coincidence!

I saw photos of Paul supposedly taken in London yesterday. But he flies all over the place constantly, so he could be anywhere today. But if Brian is on a plane, then there probably isn't anything going on in LA this week...

Yeah I saw those London photos (were they taken Saturday or Friday?), but like you said that still leaves time for that jetsetter to be anywhere -- plus he might be trying to throw us off the trail.

They were Friday, sorry.

Were the recent photos of Paul found on Instagram? Would be nice to post them here on the Where's Paul Been Lately thread.

Hmm...sounds like the stars could be aligning for some NYC activity I suppose!

Any Hampton's sightings yet this year? Isn't July one of the months he's usually there?
