Here are the Top 21 Paul / Wings albums in terms of popularity with visitors to the RateYourMusic website and not by actual sales. In working out the chart I have excluded live albums, cover albums, compilation albums,classical albums etc etc and have instead just concentrated on the standard releases featuring new material. Ratings are out of 5.0 and the figures in brackets are the number of ratings that album has received.

Very interesting and surprised at a few things. RAM beating BOTR is a mild surprise but it is close. I am surprised that "McCartney" is ahead of TOW, not even close in overall quality IMO. Glad to see CHAOS is popular because that is actually my #1. "Egypt Station" being at the bottom and being below horrible albums like "Wild Life" and McCartney II" is mind blowing to me. One other surprise to me was "London Town" being in the top ten, that would have been near the bottom in my list. Thanks for posting this, kind of interesting seeing people's opinions of the McCartney albums.

The biggest surprise for me was Press To Play being the least popular album. Its not a classic by any means, and is effectively ruined by that 1980's clinical production job, but there are some good songs on there. I think Ram is Paul's best 'pop' album while Band on the Run is Wings best 'rock' album so it was always going to be tight.

I agree with you, I would have "Wild Life" and or "McCartney II" at the bottom slots. "Press To Play" is not perfect but it does have some quality songs.

My only theory is the FU song. It really garnered some negative/hate reaction from Paul fans. Also, Repeated Warnings sends an obvious political message and perhaps that rubbed a certain group of people the wrong way.

Tommy, good call on the low quanitiy of reviews and I agree with you 100%. In coming years, I will believe Egypt Station will go down as one of Paul's top tier Post Beatles' albums. I have difficulty comparing Paul's later period Solo albums (from let's say Flowers in the Dirt and onward) with his 70's highly commercial period. As far as Paul Solo, I believe that ES is in the top 3. The whole album is strong and Paul finishes with those 2 epic multi-part tracks. This makes it superior to something like Flowers in the Dirt which I generally really liked but finishes with a wimp.

Tommy, good call on the low quanitiy of reviews and I agree with you 100%. In coming years, I will believe Egypt Station will go down as one of Paul's top tier Post Beatles' albums. I have difficulty comparing Paul's later period Solo albums (from let's say Flowers in the Dirt and onward) with his 70's highly commercial period. As far as Paul Solo, I believe that ES is in the top 3. The whole album is strong and Paul finishes with those 2 epic multi-part tracks. This makes it superior to something like Flowers in the Dirt which I generally really liked but finishes with a wimp.
BJ, first, big congrats on your recent nuptials ! And I agree with you that St. Augustine is charming and well worth visiting. I wondered why is that you "have difficulty comparing Paul's later period Solo albums with his 70's highly commercial period." It's all "Paul Music," after all. (That's what Lennon said about "Wings" music!) I agree Egypt Station ranks very highly indeed. Flowers in the Dirt "finishes with a wimp" you say? Is "Ou Est Le Souill" (sorry about the spelling) the last song on it? I'm not very crazy about that one either. I do love "Motor of Love" though.
I think "Egypt Station" has enjoyed a huge amount of love in here, too ! At Steve Hoffman's you have to wade through about 900 plus pages before you get to Egypt Station, isn't that right? Or is it? I'll probably check out the Amazon reviews, am curious. I don't fancy the fan video reviews all that much. If in a certain mood I don't mind them, they can be amusing.
