Paul McCartney 2021 - Rumours

If he is to play live again, he should do small venue show and acoustic set. Have one or two backup singers to help him on vocals. Maybe do something like "Springsteen On Broadway" where before each song he would tell story about the song he is going to play to make it a more personal concert experience. Try doing two 45 minute sets with 10-15 minute intermission. He could promote "McCartney III" and there are a couple of songs that would be perfect for this type of show. Film the shows and make DVD which could be sold or maybe have one of the concerts streamed. I think this is better than him trying to do a full out 2 1/2 -3hr show anymore.
I like your ideas, but I can't see Paul giving up his big "extravaganza" concerts. ️

I´m very proud to have seen Paul live on 21 shows since 1989, and I am the first who would like to pack my bags to see Paul live in the future, but I have to honestly say that I no longer see it feasible. I insist, with each passing year, his voice is getting very weak, and I don't think he can even tour like the Stones for 15 shows a year, much less play almost 3 hours. Sorry, it's my opinion and it's a harsh reality.

Hi YankeeFan, I think the only way he would do smaller venues is if ticket sales went down for the larger stadium shows, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. But you have some good ideas that he could possibly use, he could always play smaller venues in addition to the larger ones.

Looking forward to going to Paul’s next shows. Thinking I’ll go to a couple of shows in Europe to make up for lost time! I’m really enjoying the new album!!!
Hope to hear some of those songs too

Would be curious to see how many songs from "McCartney III" he would add to the setlist if he does play live again. I would think with the critical success the album has received and being #1 in the charts he would do at least four songs. I would not even guess what he would select but I would pick "Find My Way", "Slidin", "Kiss Of Venus" and Seize The Day".

I don't see any live concerts/theater happening in '21. Large gatherings like these will be the last to get the go ahead. I'm sure there are quite a few people that will think twice about going to another show. The same goes goes for Performers. It's still to early to know about herd immunity, immunization strength & how long it lasts & future viruses. I'm glad I attended quite a few Concerts in my life because right now any future Concerts are out of the question. Anyone else feel the same way or comments? Wishing everyone & their families on the Macca Board a safe/healthy '21.

Once I get the vaccine and wait till most people have them, I’m thinking I will start going out and travelling again. Once Biden starts making emergency PPE and giving tests, we can get it under control. Some countries like New Zealand and Japan are getting it really under control. Sadly it’s the US that is causing the most problems in industrialized countries. What a quack job by a bunch of amateurs. Biden is freeing the gag order on Fauci and has a really expert team that will square things quickly.
Concerts woohoo

Beatleweek 2021 just starting selling tickets after recently announcing their lineup for next August. My friend who I'm going with is a pharmacist in a hospital and already got her first vaccine Dec. 23rd and will soon get the 2nd shot. I have to wait for all in groups 1a and 1b, then I'm in 1c (65 and over) As long as they don't cancel Beatleweek and the U.K. allows us in without a quarantine, we will be there!

Yes, I doubt a nearly 80-year-old Paul McCartney will risk his life by touring in 2021.

Paul will qualify for the vaccine in group 1b (75 and older) Why wouldn't he tour if there are no other impediments?
He's traveled back and forth from NYC to London and now to St. Bart's. I think he's not too worried about risk.

Problem is there are impediments to touring in 2021 IMO. Paul plays large arenas/stadiums and they still will probably only allow reduced seating, will this make it financially feasible to tour? Sports teams can get away with scaled down audience, they get TV money. His band is bunch younger than him so they may not get the vaccine as quick. Three of them are in their early to mid 60's and Abe is only going to be 50. A tour in 2021 would not probably happen until the fall and he will then be 79 years old. Will he still be up to physically doing 2 -3 hr concert every few nights? He is not like Ringo who has All-Starr band taking the lead for a bunch of the show. I guess we will see but I would not bet on a 2021 tour.

^ Yeah, Abe will be 50 in March. Rusty just turned 62, Brian just turned 66 and Wix is 64 (65 in March) Many states (including mine) are now allowing 65 and older to get the vaccine in group 1a (first group) You're right that Abe and Rusty wouldn't qualify until later. If they require proof of vaccination to buy tickets and/or enter the concert venue, that would solve everything. He'd still sell out even without the younger people who couldn't get vaccinated yet!
Oh, and you can get vaccinated in group 1a if you are a caretaker of someone 65+
Regardless, concerts probably won't occur until August. Fingers crossed that Beatleweek is not cancelled again in August!
P.S. I think even at 79 Paul would be physically able to handle his normal concert routine. The man is in better shape than most 55 year olds!

The question is whether an insurance company would take over a concert tour with the current situation with musicians over 55 o 65, that is one of the big questions to overcome in 2021 and 2022.

I am getting my first shot next week, in that 65 group. My wife gets her 2nd one tomorrow, she is nurse. I hope you are right that he can continue to handle his normal routine, we hopefully will see.

While I am glad that he hits the gym and does eat healthy, that does nothing for his voice which is central part of him doing 3 hour shows. He is not like Jagger prancing around the stage for entire show where the jogging and yoga will make a difference. Plus everyone seems to forget the mental part of getting older. Will he stay mentally sharp as he gets older, nobody knows and let's pray he does.

It is a whole new world today and not as surprising that some older people are really in good shape and can still do pretty well physically. I am in my late 60's and can still run 5 miles in about 40 minutes. I play tennis 2-3 times (1-2 hrs) a week weather permitting. When my wife wants to go for a walk, we walk together for an hour. I belong to several tennis groups and there are people in their 80's and one man in his early 90's that still play tennis (doubles). My brother is in his early 70's and rides a bicycle, jogs, swims and lifted weights before COVID cut down some of these activities. Glad Paul does this stuff and is very healthy but it is not that shocking anymore with older person being that active.
