I like the youtube clip of McCartney doing the "Run Devil Run" songs at the Cavern club. The youtube clips of him performing with Lulu were really fun and I think she had a little "crush" on him if you look at her during the songs -lol. I really like your selections with exception of "Peace In The Neighborhood" which I did not enjoy very much even when he did it at the 1993 show. BTW - When I saw him in 1993, that was the show that was televised by FOX. That show had the infamous "Robbie's Bit" which was done to entertain the crowd during commercial break. Glad you included "Get Out Of My Way" which I really liked and was surprised he did not play that on the 93 tour. Looking forward to your selections on the next two decades.

Thanks Yankeefan.  I couldn't believe how fast I got to 25 songs especially with all the extra songs from the Off The Ground extra CD.  There were still another 4 or 5 I wanted to add.

If you get a chance go to Youtube and take a look at the "Peace in the Neighbourhood" video (I think it just says "93 on the title).  It is the one that has Wix doing a beautiful quick jazzy piano solo before Paul begins the vocal.  I also didn't like that song,  C'mon People and Biker Like an Icon very much on the studio album but I couldn't believe how much better a couple of the live versions were on Youtube.

As I said, I thought a few of the Run Devil Run "live versions" were equally great.  Paul and his Run Devil Run Band did a mini concert at one of the Peta Shows and all the songs (I think they did about 6-7 songs) and I still can't believe how good Paul's voice was in the late 90's.  If you get a chance, I think you might like those a lot too.

Looking forward to the last 2 Decades because as you know, Paul's last 4-5 albums ware also great.  I hope we see a real good Paul Anthology in a few years.  I don't know if it is plausable but if it was done like I'm suggesting, I would be waiting in line for it.

Now I'm beginning the 2000-2010 Decade.  Let me just say that it was a great "writing" period for Paul and a Decade of major changes for Macca.  For starters, as he began working out songs in the studio for Driving Rain (2001) he met and really jelled with 2 young musicians...Abe Laboriel and Rusty Anderson...and they became part of the cornerstone for his new Band that are still current and active with Paul today.  As we also know Paul found a new love and got marriend to Heather Mills.  While the marriage eventually didn't work out, it did give Paul a lot of motivation for new songs.

As far as the albums for this Decade, Paul released several including Driving Rain, Chaos and Creation and Memory Almost Full.  Towards the end of the Decade, Paul and his cowriter Youth released the last of their Fireman albums and it became the best yet.  All in all, Paul was on a roll during this this Decade.  Many critics consider Chaos and Creation to be Paul's best Solo album yet and in my opinion, Memory Almost Full wasn't far behind it.

For these reasons, I believe that the 2000-2010 Disc for a proposed Paul McCartney Anthology would potentially be the best one yet.  My suggested tracklisted will follow shortly.

Let me just get right to it...

Disc 4 Paul McCartney Anthology 2000-2020 "Sticking Out of My Back Pocket"

            1. Vanilla Sky (single for the Movie Vanilla Sky released in 2001)

            2. Lonely Road (choose the best "live version" as Paul added it his 2002 World Tour)

            3. Your Loving Flame (again pick the best live version; played it at other special concerts also)

            4. About You (one of the best rockers on Driving Rain and highly underrated)

            5. Magic (great song about the day that Paul met Linda)

            6. Your Way (great little countryish song on Driving Rain)

            7. Back in the Sunshine Again (imo...the most underrated song on DR cowritten with son James; loved Paul's soulful singing and Gabe Dixon's piano and organ playing

            8. How Kind of You (great less publicized song from Chaos, I saw Paul do this on one of his reheasals and it was fantastic)

            9. Riding to Vanity Fair (different and my favortite song on Chaos)

            10. Too Much Rain (another great one from Chaos and written for Heather)

            11. A Certain Softness (maybe the least publicized song on Chaos but I love the song and production)

            12. Anyway (Paul's best vocal on Chaos in my opinion)

            13. Summer of 59 (great B-side from the Chaos sessions)

            14. This Loving Game (Another great B Side)

            15. She is So Beautiful (Bonus track on the Japanese Chaos album

            16. Ever Present Past (great song from Memory Almost Full..MAF)

            17. See Your Sunshine (most underrated track on MAF)

            18. Only Mama Knows (pick the best "live version" and a great rocker on MAF)

            19. That Was Me (pick the best "live" verson)

            20. House of Wax (pick the best "live" version)

21.. Mr. Bellamy (another great underrated track on MAF)

            22. Why So Blue (bonus track from a later release of MAF)

            23. My Soul - Unrelased (collaboration with Nitin Sawhney) I personally love it)

            24. Sing the Changes - from the Electric Arguments/Firemen album released in 2009 (the live version from Good Evening New York is great

            25. Dance Till We're High (the most underrated track on Electric Arguments)

            26. Sun is Shining (another good deep track from Electric Arguments

I had to stop because I'm talking about 1 CD.  It does show you just how many great songs Paul wrote in this latter period era for Paul.  I tried to not repeat Chaos and MAF songs from the Pure McCartney Compilation.  Following the Pure McCartney criteria, you could cut a couple of my choices above...e.g. Only Mama Knows and Too Much Rain.  This list just shows how good a McCartney Post Beatles Anthology by Decade could be.  Just keep in mind, I'm only basically using the Internet for my research.  Just think about how many surprises might be in Paul/EMI vaults.  Again, I'm talking about an Anthology in a couple of years (e.g. 2022 when Paul turns 80).  Let me know what you think about this type of disc for the 2000-2010 Decade.

Thanks Nancy R.  Definitely I meant 2010.  Only 2-3 of them were on Pure McCartney.

I'm glad that Nancy caught my first line mistake above.  Yes it was a typo and the list above would be a 2000-2010 tracklist for that Decade.

I think that the people who really looked at the last 2 tracklists I've presented  (the 90's and 2000-2010), it would be obvious that the majority of these relatively unknown Solo Paul songs are not just throw aways.  The quality of the writing and performances are still at a very high level.  They are just more unknown because Paul stopped getting radio airplay.  At least I believe that this is the case from the large majority of true fans on this Site.  These tracklists are not the hits, the commercialized or the songs that the record company was pushing at the time his albums were released and the same songs on the previous Paul McCartney Compilations.  They are the deeper cuts, the B-Sides, the unreleased etc.etc.

My gut feel is that Paul will only be actively touring (like he has over the last 10 years) for another year or two.  I think at that point, this type of Anthology will be viable because as I said, the songs are there in all his Catalogue vaults.  The purpose for me starting this type of thread was to give fans an idea of just how good a "true" type of Paul McCartney Anthology could be with some effort.  He has never stopped writing or performing music since the Beatles broke up in 1970.

Anyway, I only have one more decade left and it is obviously the decade we just left.  My wife will be happy when I finish this.  Thanks

IMO you nailed it, great tracklist. I am glad I got you to like "About You", it really rocks and would have been great live. I also like it that you include "Dance Til We're High" from EA and "Summer of 59".

IMO you nailed it, great tracklist. I am glad I got you to like "About You", it really rocks and would have been great live. I also like it that you include "Dance Til We're High" from EA and "Summer of 59".

Thanks Yankeefan.  I'm probably missing a song or two, but it is quite good even if I do say so myself.  I remember Rusty Anderson talking about a Paul unreleased song they were doing during the Driving Rain sessions that he loved.  And then there's the Paul song during the "Kisses" sessions that Diana Kroll liked so much that she recorded on her last album.  Those are the kind of songs that could possibly be included on an Anthology that would make it even more in demand.    I think that Paul's songwriting since the 2000's has been so underrated and hopefully is the reason why a McCartney Solo Anthology will be so needed in a couple of years.  Thanks again for reading although there doesn't seem to be much interest at least on Maccaboard.

Don't worry about interest BJ, sadly most of this board is mainly concerned with his touring or anything Beatle related. I am glad there are a few of us that are really into McCartney's entire career as an artist and not just Beatle Paul and leader of Wings. I appreciate you doing this because you bring up songs I forgot about or did not even know. Heck, if not for your threads I probably would not be on this board at all - lol.

Now I'm finally at the 2010's Decade.  Similar to his other Post Beatles Decades, Paul never stopped working and writing great new music.

He released 2 terrific Original Albums  in the 2010's...New in 2013 and Egypt Station in 2018.  And while a completely different Genre than his Run Devil Run rock & roll Covers album in 1999, Paul released an American Standards "Covers" album in 2012 called "Kisses on the Bottom".  While it took a little while to grow on me, I got to really like the "Kisses" album.  I especially like certain covers by Paul when he makes them his "own" based on his style musically and vocally.  As I loved cover songs on Run Devil Run like No Other Baby, Lonesome Town and Brown Eyed Handsome Man...I equally loved "Kisses" covers like More I Cannot Wish You, Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive and Get Yourself Another Fool.  Like on Run Devil Run, Paul also wrote a couple of great originals on "Kisses" written in the same genre.

                                  Here goes:

2010's Disc for a Paul McCartney Anthology

                                  1. I Want to Come Home (Paul song written for the movie Everybody's Fine)

                                  2. My Valentine (Original Paul song from his 2012 Album "Kisses on the Bottom"; pick the best live track)

                                  3. Only Our Hearts (Another original Paul song from "Kisses"; great vocal by Paul and a great harmonica vocal by Stevie Wonder.  Started hearing it on Spotify's "this is Paul McCartney channel and absolutely love it.

                                  4. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter - I have a soft spot for this "Kisses" cover since I remember My Mother and her big Irish family singing this during their Sunday get togethers.

                                  5. More I Cannot Wish For - another great cover from Kisses and one of my favorites on the album; great song and lyrics (originally from Guys and Dolls) .  For anyone who has a Daughter, this is a tear maker.

                                  6. Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive - cover from Kisses and I love Paul's vocal on it.  He makes it his own imo

                                  7. Get Yourself Another Fool - great bluesy soulful cover from Kisses; another great vocal from Paul and guitar from Eric Clapton

                                  8. New - terrific title cut from Paul's "NEW" album released in 2013.  Pick the best "live" version

                                  9. Early Days - my personal favorite song on "NEW".

                                  10. Queenie Eye - great track on "NEW"

                                  11.  Alligator - great underrated track on "NEW"

                                  12. I Can Bet - best under publicized song on "NEW"

                                  13. Scared - the "hidden" track on "NEW" and one of his best ballads of the 2000's.

                                  14. Appreciate - this one is for Nancy R and one of the best "deep" tracks from NEW

                                  15. Hope For the Future - great single Paul released in 2014

                                  16. I Don't Know - first single Paul released from his new album "Egypt Station" in 2018.

                                  17. Happy With You - great deeper cut from Egypt Station

                                  18. Confidante - another great deep cut from ES

                                  19. People Want Peace - great under publicized song on ES

                                  20. Hand in Hand - best love song on ES

                                  21. Dominoes - one of my favorites on ES

                                  22. Do It Now - Paul wrote this from an expresson his father always said

                                  23. Get Started - best bonus song on ES

                                  24. Home Tonight - good song from the ES sessions and not on album

I would argue that Scared is one of his best ballads of his career.

Thanks B J! I think oobu loves that song too! I just sent your list to my friend Jennifer.

Agree 100% Kestrel.  I loved your post about finding the Egypt Station Traveller's Edition for $5.95.  Wished I could find a record store in the US for anything close to that price.

Anyway, since this Post is about a future Paul Anthology By Decade with deeper cuts etc. please let me know what you think about the songs on Egypt Statio 2 like Frank Sinatra's Party, Sixty Second Street, Get Enough, Get Started and Nothing for Free.  Thanks

Which I suspect would still be a bargain even on your side of the pond?
