Paul McCartney 2015 Rumors

No Firefly lineup announcement today: We're waiting on some final approvals that are taking longer than expected. It'll be worth the wait and we will share the lineup with you as soon as we can.
Bet you one of the final approvals is Paul...

Lol, my uncle works in the concert biz and says Paul's people are a pain to deal with. Last minute cancellations, switches. I hope he plays the fest. Sounds like fun.
-
Just a thought: if he goes to Asia in April, Latin America in May and the US in the summer, what would be left for november/december? Europe, UK and Australia.
-
Have to say I was expecting Paul to announce some dates for Japan and South Korea fairly early on this year, after last year's unfortunate cancellations. It's only fair. But I very much hope he will come back for some shows in the UK before too long - it's been a while now since he last played here. I often wonder whether the original plan was to play the UK last year, but this ended up being put back after Paul's virus. In any case, I'm itching to see a show!

For those who wanted actual rumors, here are some: April 21 - Osaka (Kyocera Dome) April 23, 25 and 27 - Tokyo (Tokyo Dome) April 29 - Tokyo (Budokan)
So far, this has come true, but I have just learned from a Japanese friend that the Budokan is not available on the 29th. That day is a public holiday and Judo championships are held in the Budokan on that specific day each year (http://www.kodokan.org/e_info/schedule.html)..) So, I wonder if there will be a Budokan concert? I think we can rule out the 22nd, 24th and 26th because I can't see Paul performing on three consecutive nights - if anything, I wonder if his new strategy is to avoid performing on two consecutive nights? Maybe because of what happened last year? (By the way, it looks like the Stones never perform on consecutive nights anymore.) Also, it arguably wouldn't make logistical sense to move his equipment back and forth for shows on the 24th and 26th. So, the only other possibilities could be: April 28 - however, this would mean moving all of his equipment overnight AND performing on two consecutive nights. I'm guessing that the Budokan show would be filmed, so I can't see him risking performing with less than fresh vocal cords. April 30 - But this would only give him one day off before the Korea show. Perhaps the most likely option? April 19 - Actually not possible because of the Hall of Fame gig with Ringo.

Re Firefly: The Stones may be playing there instead of/ or maybe with Paul, as they are rumored to being playing US festivals and arenas Apr-Jun

This does make me wonder...I'm not quite as certain as I was last week on this happening. But still, if they don't sell single day passes...I don't think you'll see me there!

The info I've got is that promoters are trying to negotiate the Budokan concert, but I believe the best option would have been to do two concerts at the Tokyo Dome (April 23 & 25) and then the Budokan on the 27th. Too late for that now, but I hope they will find a way. After the Asian tour ends on May 02, I'm guessing the next leg will begin sometime around the 12th. A few weeks ago I had heard rumors about Argentina (Buenos Aires and Cordoba) and Brazil (Porto Alegre and other cities), but no exact dates, and recently something about Mexico (Monterrey on May 30), so perhaps those are possible. He usually goes to Latin America in April/May, after all.

Interesting... I hope they will work something out for the Budokan. It will be great if you get something in your neck of the woods also.

Very interesting sidenote pertaining to the Budokan... KEN GARY: "Some Japanese say that your performances will violate the Budokan which is devoted to traditional Japanese martial arts, and you set a bad example for Japanese youth by leading them astray from traditional Japanese values. What do you think of all that?" PAUL: "The thing is that if somebody from Japan-- If a dancing troupe from Japan goes to Britain, nobody tries to say in Britain that they're violating the traditional laws, you know, or that they're trying to spoil anything. All we're doing is coming here and singing because we've been asked to." JOHN: "Better to watch singing than wrestling, anyway." PAUL: "Yeah. We're not trying to violate anything. Umm, we're just as traditional, anyway." I found the 1966 interview above very interesting, in that on three different occasions since then (1975, 1980, and 2014) all plans by Paul to perform at the Budokan were foiled...quite amazing! Let's hope he can fit it in on this tour!!

If I had to choose one venue in which to watch a McCartney concert in Japan, it would be at the Budokan, but tickets for it last year were being offered for $1,000 dollars, right?

Hi Carlos, If I recall correctly, there were four price levels. In US dollars, they were approximately: $1000 - ALL floor tickets were this price. $800 - lower stands $600 - upper stands $15 (yes, $15!) - these were seats for under-25-year-olds only, which I believe were behind the stage. (I think there would have been no video screen behind the stage, so these people would have been the backdrop for the video recording which was rumoured to be planned.) Cheers, Andrew.

Yes, I hope so! (Though, given that track record, maybe it would be better for everyone if he didn't try!)

I'm curious about the current financial situation in Europe and the UK: would it be difficult for promoters to come up with Paul's fee? And how hard would it be to sell out a stadium/arena, plus VIP packages?

Certainly it's good for Paul that oil prices have dropped, when they have to cart all that equipment around the world.

We discussed this often, a typical European is just not as eager to pay more than 50 bucks for a night out than they are in America, North or South. And even less so for situations in which you can't even pick the best view by yourself (seated concerts placed by numbers). General admission 75 euros and it's already harder to fill the venues - it won't sell out, still will be nicely filled of course - let alone when he decided to go even larger with the stadiums in Vienna and Warsaw and about doubled that price, the latter having an economic climate from which a concert ticket for that show was about 1/4th of a regular month salary or something. It's all about money, and that's why the European fans never get to hear 'Listen To What The Man Said', 'Hi Hi Hi', 'Eight Days A Week' and 'Your Mother Should Know', and by the time he ever gets back those will be swapped for 'Drive My Car' and 'Hello, Goodbye' again.
-
I don't believe he will never tour Europe again. He's still got at least a few more years on the road, so he will certainly get back there sooner or later. Maybe at the end of this year? He seems to enjoy doing shows in Europe during the winter.

It's hard to believe that "New" has been out for nearly 18 months now and he has yet to "promote" it in Europe...

Well...he did promote "NEW" in London back in October, 2013. While not a full blown tour or concert, there was a brief street performamce and radio concert at BBC.

Europe has let us down in the past. Poor attendance, cancelled shows. He may never play there again.
