Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023

Sorry...I should have said "Tori's" above. -

Toris...what is wrong with me this morning -
"A wonderful opener, that isn't the single. But packs a punch."
I think he did that on "McCartney III with "Long Tailed Winter Bird", just my opinion.
"An absolute rocker. I want the Oh! Darling voice"
Sadly dream on, those days are long gone when he could sing a song like that."The Number One Hit."
80-year-old Paul McCartney is not going to have #1 hit, would love to be wrong."A soft ballad. Timeless. Could've been released at any time of Paul's career"
Paul is very good at these types of songs and I think he could write more of them."Something crazy and funky and experimental"
Paul has done experimental songs like "Deep Deep Feeling" and "Rinse The Raindrops" so I could see this happening again on a new album."Something that might've done Fred Astaire proud"
Personally, that is the last type of song I would want Paul to have on a new album, to each their own."Back to pure pop"
Paul can write these melodic pop songs in his sleep (lol) and I think "Find My Way" was perfect example. I absolutely loved that song.
"Really, it isn't that hard."
Actually, it is. We are just fortunate Paul and a few others (Dylan, Springsteen) are a rare breed and still very creative at their age.

Ok, I am going to act like I am a member of MPL just for the first part of this post. "McCartney III" came out in December of 2020. In other words, it is barely two years since the last Paul McCartney release of new material. Even if a new release is not ready until 2024, that is not that long a time between albums. In addition, there will always be some re-issue album being done to give McCartney fans something to buy while waiting for a new album. Remember I am still thinking like MPL employee, and I look at your list and say there is no way in heck this is commercially viable. "Pure McCartney" did awful and it had some #1 hits on the CD's. Let's save time and money and concentrate on new album or re-issues that make MPL more money.
Now, I will give my opinion again. Your projects only chance of being done is after Paul is no longer alive. I then think the McCartney estate will look to cash in on his music legacy and look to do something like you have proposed. My personal idea if you wanted to do this project now was to make it a limited release and only make it available to fans on this site and or his FB group. You cut the cost of the project a bit and you can monitor interest. If it does not sell, MPL did not invest that much time/money on it. If it does better than expected, then maybe you release it to the general public.

It was always a wish list of the album I wanted... the album I always wanted to get, as a youngster through to my ageing self.... I'm a simple man. Give me a new Paul album that presents it that way.... I know it ain't gonna happen....

Hey Guys and Gals:
I read a Google article this morning that was about Paul's Unreleased Songs. Paul remembers writing a bunch shortly after the Beatles' Break-Up that he wrote mainly for his young children. The only one he specified was called "Bounce" or did he call it "Bouncey. Unfortunately the article left my screen. He went on to say he also wrote a Christmas
Album for the kids because they were tired of hearing the same songs. He added that it now has become a "Tradition" where the Family plays it every year. Did anyone see this Article?I was thinking about "unreleased" songs for my proposal that have never been leaked and wouldn't that be a great addition for an album like "Leftovers and Rarities. Has anyone ever seen or heard a song called Bounce or Bouncey?
Thanks

Never heard anything about a Bounce or Bouncey song, but I heard about the Christmas album. He said it was just for the family and he would never release it to the public. ️

The Paul article I just mentioned above I believe came from an outlet called "Showbiz Cheat Shee" -
Looking at my Starter CD, I wonder if MPL (and Paul) reasons that because songs like Loveliest Thing, Flying to My Home and Back on My Feet were released as B-Sides and included on the "big" Flowers in the Dirt Archive/Box Set that they are already "known". In my opinion that is totally untrue. Casual Paul and Beatle fans don't know these songs at all. The reasons they are so obscure is because the overwhelming % of people do not buy 45's anymore and because the majority of fans would not pay the exorbitant price for the Flowers in the Dirt Box Set. In reality, they have never heard them.
This is precisely why the Starter CD for Leftovers and Rarities would sell in my opinion especially with good publicity and great positive articles about the contents of Leftovers and Rarities. All of these songs in the Starter CD have great stories to tell.
Add other good B-Sides like Love Come Tumbling Down, Rainclouds and Sally G round out a terrific album/CD.

As I have mentioned, I really like the 22 Track "Starter" CD I initially listed to begin this package I called "Leftovers and Rarities". With the exception of Track #6 (Live Version of Maybe I'm Amazed from Wings Over America) and Track #2 (Goodbye-Paul's Demo of the song he wrote for Mary Hopkin) the rest are fairly obscure. Only Hard Core Paul Fans like me would know most of the other songs. I really think "casual" Paul and Beatle fans wouldn't know them. While I admit this "Interim" type album for 2023 would probably get off the gate slowly, I still think with very good Publicity /Marketing it could be a grower. I think "happy" style up-tempo songs like "A Love for You" , "Waterspout" or "Flying to My Home might be potential Singles.I still wonder if Paul has his own private collection of songs kept in his own vaults. If one or two were really good and had never been leaked previously, that could be the game changer to the viability of this idea. That alone could be the "real story" to get a Leftovers and Rarities" Album/CD off the ground.
Hopefully Paul and His Inner Circle maybe have similar thoughts. I do believe a couple of my original selections within the 22 Tracks might need a little editing. While the song "I Can't Imagine" is very catchy, I think it's a little repetitive before the closing part which I do like.
The opening track "My Old Friend" also might need a little editing to make it better. I've never heard Carl Perkins' Version on his "Ready Set Go" Album. I'm assuming Carl's track has both Carl and Paul on it.

Correction to my last post. The name of the Carl Perkins album that contains the Carl Perkins/Paul McCartney collaboration song "My Old Friend" is Go Cat Go. -

Thanks for the efforts Nancy. The sentiments to "My Old Friend" are wonderful. -
@b-j-conlee
Even if Paul doesn't have any brand new songs to add, Leftovers and Rarities potentially could be a very good Album/CD.Just going by memory, here could be my Track by Track ratings:
-
My Old Friend- "7". Have only listened to the YouTube Video. This could be significantly higher with the right amount of editing.
-
Goodbye - "9". Love Paul's vocals on this Demo
-
A Love for You - "9". Agree with Toris, this "Happy " Rocker from the Ram Sessions is great.
-
The Mess "8.5". Live version and love Henry McCullough guitar work.
-
Sally G "8". Love this "Country" Story Song and B-Side
-
Maybe I'm Amazed "10". Still one of Paul's best Solo Songs. The 1976 live version is just as good.
-
Daytime Nighttime Suffering "8.5". Have always loved this B-Side
-
Waterspout "8.5". Another good Unreleased Happy" style Rocker from the London Town Sessions.
-
Cage "8" Another good Unreleased track from the Back to the Egg Sessions.
-
Rainclouds "8". Hidden B-Side from the Tug of War Sessions.
-
On the Wings of a Nightingale "8". Paul's Demo and could be higher with the right amount of Editing
-
Yvonne's the One "8". Another good unreleased track from the Press to Play Sessions. The rating could be higher with the right amount of Editing.
-
Loveliest Thing "9". Have always loved this song. Released B-Side during the Flowers in the Dirt.
-
Back on My Feet "8". Another good B-Side from the Flowers in the Dirt Sessions. I like Paul's simple piano demo the best.
-
Once Upon a Long Ago "8.5". Only Released In Great Britain so it's virtually unknown in America.
-
The Lovers That Never Were "9". The Paul/Elvis Costello Demo. Great Vocals by Paul.
-
I Can't Imagine "8" Good B-Side from the Off the Ground Sessions. Rating could be significantly higher with the right amount of good editing.
-
Love Come Tumbling Down "8.5". Good B-Side from the Flaming Pie Sessions.
-
Flying to My Home "9". Another Terrific B-Side from the Flowers in the Dirt Sessions.
-
Love Mix/Waiting for the Sun to Shine "8". Another Unreleased track from the Flowers in the Dirt Sessions.
-
Home Tonight "8,5". Written during the Egypt Station Sessions but never appears on the same Album.
-
In a Hurry "8.5". Written during the Egypt Station Sessions but never appears on the same Album.
Looking at the "tracks", I believe this could be a very good "interim" album until Paul finishes a brand new album.

I sometimes find "the best of " articles interesting especially if its about my favorite artist Paul McCartney. This one was called simply "32 Underrated and Obscure Paul McCartney Songs".
Being a hard core Macca fan, I often read them to compare their list to rare Paul songs that I personally like/love.
In this list a bunch of deep cuts were listed and I couldn't disagree with any of them. In the top 10, the author listed a couple ones that I really love#5 was "Somebody Who Cares (from Tug of War) and # 4 was Dominoes (Egypt Station). I couldn't argue with those choices but what really shocked me was his #1 choice. It was totally unknown to me called "What Do We Really Know". Paul wrote it to be included on his Brother's Album called McGear (1974). While I was a big Paul fan, I've never listened to any of Mike McGear's discography. Of course, we later found out that Mike's real name is Mike McCartney. Mike's big brother not only helped him on the Album by writing several songs, he also brought ii other members of Wings to play on the Album.
That really got my curiosity and Questions:
Are any of these songs good?
Were any of the songs issued as "Singles"
How good is the song "What Do We Really Know" that this obscure article listed as #1 among his 32 Underrated and obscure McCartney songs.Has anyone here heard the album " McGear" and is it fairly good?
ThanksPS Maybe one of these songs could be a candidate for a Leftovers and Rarities type album/CDg

I have the “McGear” album in vinyl. I think I probably bought it in the late ‘70s. Haven’t listened to it in ages and don’t have time right now to listen to it again, but will try to find time later today or tomorrow at least to listen to “What Do We Really Know.” It’s not a bad album, as I recall.
P.S. The version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” that is always played on the radio is the 1976 live version since it was released as a single (Paul stupidly did not release the album version as a single in 1970) If I had to pick my favorite of the two, I’d pick the live version. -
@b-j-conlee I just listened to this recently. I have the Rykodisc release on CD as well as the original vinyl. "What Do We Really Know" and "Leave It" were written by Paul (actually copyrighted to Paul & Linda as were all of his compositions then). The former is kind of a goofy song that would have fit in on McCartney II. "Leave It" has Denny Seiwell on drums so I'm guessing it's a Ram outtake. Sounds like that period. Seven other songs were co-written by Paul. The credits only show Paul as producer but his backing vocals are clearly heard on some tracks and I wouldn't be surprised if he played some instruments too. Curiously no one is credited with playing bass on the album. This was probably because Paul was under contract to EMI and the album was on Warner Bros. My favorite song on the album is "Givin' Grease a Ride".
There was another Paul & Linda song called "Ten Years After on Strawberry Jam" that was the B-side of "Liverpool Lou" by Scaffold in 1974.
-
@njr Thanks Nancy.
One of the songs on the "McGear" album that was a Single was a track called "Leave It". It made it to #36 on the UK charts.PS the original or studio version of MIA is the version I hear almost all the time on the radio. The live version from Wings Over America is easy to tell from Paul's vocals. I love both versions but if pushed I would choose the Studio version by a tad over the live version. Because you hear the studio version far more on the radio, I chose to put the "live" version of my proposed "Starter " CD for Leftovers and Rarities.

@victor
Thanks for your input Victor. I'll have to try to hear these songs on YouTube. The fact that I've never heard them before tells me that they aren't that good. Conversely, the songs on the "Starter" CD I've proposed are, in my opinion, very good. I will take a listen to some of these McGear songs that Paul wrote.
