The top 2 McCartney songs that I absolutely hate are "Temporary Secretary" and "Bip Bop" -lol
I would add to that “Nod Your Head.” 🤮

@b-j-conlee I suppose there‘s some way to get a portable CD player and hook it up to your car on long trips. Will have to investigate.
If the car doesn't have a CD player it probably has a USB port. Just rip your CDs to a flash drive and plug it in. You can have an entire music collection at your fingertips.
I don’t even know how to do that. How many CDs would fit on a flash drive?
A 32GB flash drive should hold about 300 albums in mp3 format if my math is correct. I use Windows Media Player to rip CDs directly to the flash drive. You need to create a top folder called "Music" on the flash drive, then change the location the files are ripped to. It should appear as E:\Music. When I plug the flash into the car's USB port the album folders appear on the screen and then I just scroll through the album titles to find what I want to listen to.

I would have to do that on my semi-old slowish laptop. Thanks for the directions!

@wandy Actually, I strongly dislike WDWDIITR as well. George Martin should have told Paul....that little ditty and Wild Honey Pie would not be on the White Album. Same goes for John's Revolution 9. Atrocities (or not fun, depending on your viewpoint,) all of them. If Martin could tell George Harrison that It's Only A Northern Song would not be good enough for Sgt. Pepper and to come up with something else, he could have told Paul and John the same thing for the aforementioned. Side One on the White Album would have been perfect were it not for Wild Honey Pie. Side note: Ringo's Don't Pass Me By needed to be sped up. It just seemed to plod along. Oddly, to me, the mono version of that song actually sounds faster. Now I've said what annoys. Aside from Temporary Secretary.

Looking specifically at my Starter CD selections, which tracks would/should have "edits" to make them better:-
My Old Friend- Wandy's last video here was the best (I believe it was one of YouTube's) I have seen. Not being close to an expert, I still think with additional editing it could be improved. I would leave that to other experts Paul could enlist. As far as I know, it was never released as a B-Side.
-
Goodbye- In my opinion, Paul' official demo is about as perfect as you could get.
-
A Love For You - Between all the overdubs that Paul and his final Wings' Bandmates did for the In-Laws Soundtrack, circa 1980, I don't think it could be improved on. My opinion only.
-
The Mess - The fact that the "Live" version was officially released as a B-Side to the "My Love" Single, I don't think it could be improved imho.
-
Sally G. - The fact that it was released as the B-Side to "Junior's Farm", I don't think it could be improved.
-
Maybe I'm Amazed - Released as an A-Side "live" Single in 1976 on the Wings Over America Album. I don't think it could be improved with one exception. To make it more "Rare" I would include Jimmy's fabulous "introduction".
-
Daytime Nighttime Suffering- B-Side to Goodnight Tonight. Don't think it could be improved.
-
Waterspout - As far as I know, this is a totally "unreleased" song. That being said, it probably might need some editing.
-
Cage - Another "Unreleased" track. Probably might need some editing. Again I would leave that to the experts.
-
Rainclouds - B Side to Ebony and Ivory single. Probably might need some editing.
-
On the Wings of an Nightengale. As far as I know, Paul's demo is the only version so it's an "unreleased" track. Probably could need some editing to improve it.
-
Yvonne's the One - As far as I know, this is "unreleased". Probably could need some editing for improvement.
-
Loveliest Thing B -Side to Figure of 8 Single. Probably doesn't need any editing.
-
Back on My Feet- B-Side to "Once Upon a Long Ago". My opinion only, but I like Paul's more simple Demo (just Paul at the piano) better. No edits needed imho.
-
Once Upon a Long Ago - This is a strange one...Released as an A-Side in only Great Britain but never released in America. This would be a rarity for most countries. Relatively "unknown" in the USA.
-
The Lovers That Never Were - Officially released on the "Off the Ground" Album. In my opinion, Paul and Elvis Costello's Demo is significantly better than the Album version. Great vocals on the demo version.
-
I Can't Imagine- Officially released as the B-Side to " C'Mon People" Single. In my opinion, "I Can't Imagine" needs some editing. I love the ending but 1 or 2 of the choruses are too repetitive before the ending.
-
Love Come Tumbling Down- B-Side to the "Beautiful Night" Single. Little or no editing needed imho.
-
Flying to My Home - B-Side to the "My Brave Face" Single. One of my favorite tracks but maybe a little editing could improve it more imho.
-
Love Mix / Waiting for the Sun to Shine- As far as I know, this is another unreleased track. May need a little editing but not sure.
-
In a Hurry - Released as a "Single" Only but not included on the "Egypt Station" Album. Some editing may be needed.
-
Home Tonight- Released as a Single Only but not included on the "Egypt Station" Album. Some editing may be needed.
If there is a song or two ( not already on one of Paul's original albums) that should be included please let us know.
if there is a song or two that shouldn't be on the above list, please also let us know.
Thanks

I absolutely love Why Don't We Do it in the Road.
-
I just listened again to the "demo" of "On the Wings of a Nightengale" and I don't see why it would need any editing. For a demo, it is pretty good quality and the length of the song on the demo is almost exactly the same as the Everly Brother's recorded version. I think this demo is perfect for the type of compilation you want Paul to do.
I am also baffled why you think "In A Hurry" and "Home Tonight" might need some editing. While both were not included on the first edition of "Egypt Station", they were released as a "double A side" single which means they were properly recorded/produced like any other songs on the album.
While a couple of songs from "Electric Arguments" may be known due to being played on tour, I think adding a song like "Two Magpies" would be perfect for you compilation. How about adding the cover of the Charlie Gracie song "Fabulous" which was added as bonus track to RDR in 2007. See link below. Yes, it is cover song but it is very obscure which IMO fits in perfectly for this compilation.
-
@yankeefan2 and @B-J-Conlee, it’s Nightingale
And @Yankeefan2, I agree about “Fabulous!” (Very “Elvis-like!”) ️
-
Where is "spell check" when I need it -lol.
-
@yankeefan2
Thanks Yankeefan for your reply to my questions concerning my 22 track "proposed Leftovers and Rarities" CD. Not surprised that you and Nancy were the first ones to reply.I was just thinking that if Paul and his close advisers like this new compilation idea, he might need someone like a Giles Martin or Greg Kirsten review these 22 suggested tracks to see if improvements could be made.
I couldn't agree more that "On the Wings of an Nightingale" needs to be included on a proposed "Starter CD" for this type of special Compilation. I also love Paul's demo and the "length" is just right. After further review, I agree it doesn't need any further editing.
As far as the " double singles of Home Tonight and In a Hurry" I agree that both songs probably don't need any editing. Just as you said, the fact that Paul put them out as "singles" shows that they were closely scrutinized before giving them an official release.

@yankeefan2
Hey Yankeefan...just to complete my thoughts to your last reply about other "leftovers" that could be added to my initial 22 track list proposal.I have to re-listen to "Two Magpies" again. It didn't do much for me on my first listen many years ago, but I should know better how often it is the 5th or 6th listen where a song can really grab you. It is only 2:12 in length so that isn't a problem. I really like Paul's instrumental song called " Squid" but when it was finally "released" (on the Flaming Pie big archive edition) it is way too long (like over 6 minutes). "Squid" could be a very nice track opener to consider but it would have to edited.
After my initial "starter" CD, I put together a 2 CD alternative and I had included "Fabulous" as one of the tracks. It wasn't on the original "Run Devil Run" but it became the B-Side of the lone Single "No Other Baby"from Run Devil Run. It is only 2:17 so it's definitely a good choice and it's not on an original McCartney album.
2 other possible and good choices for "Leftovers" in my opinion are both unreleased songs. One is "Lindiana" and the other is "I Love This House".
From my memory, both songs are too long especially for a compilation CD and would definitely need editing in my opinion. One thing for sure, Paul has plenty of good choices so quality nor quantity is a problem. I still love the idea of a compilation containing predominantly rare songs that were not on any of Paul's original Post-Beatle Albums.
If you look at my "Starter Cd" songs, almost all of them are relatively "unknown" and are good songs imho. "Goodbye" and especially "Maybe I'm Amazed" are the exceptions but I think you need them to help with the initial sales of a new Compilation. By adding "Jimmy's introduction" to MIA, it really makes it more of a "Rarity type track" and Nancy felt that "Goodbye" was mostly unknown to the majority of its "Target" audience. I certainly trust her judgement.
I still like Bruce's original idea the best towards this idea. Begin this package as a 1 CD Starter Set with about 20 tracks. In this way, the compilation CD could have a very inexpensive "selling price" initially. After it is successful, you could have a "Pre-Sold Follow-Up Set" with about the same # of tracks. Because of doing the "Leftovers and Rarities" concept and how prolific a writer Paul is, you wouldn't have the "duplication" problem that Paul's previous compilations have had.
I think the key to the success of this project is selecting the best "Leftovers and Rarities" songs initially. Please take a look at these 22 tracks and let us know if any of those songs should not be on the "Starter" CD. There are 2 or 3 that I'm second guessing myself but I'll wait and see to get other opinions.
Thanks, BJ -
I am not a fan of country music so if it was up to me, I would remove "Sally G". The quality of the song is fine, just not a fan of the genre. "I Can't Imagine" does nothing for me, I was not a fan of "Cmon People" either -lol.
BTW - I don't get why you think Jimmy's introduction (Maybe I'm Amazed) was so fabulous. At best, it was cute calling it a "piano" tune from a few albums back which as we all know was not a Wings album -lol.
-
Thanks as always Yankeefan. Thank God for you and Nancy. It's obvious that not too many people have any interest in this topic. As a big fan of Paul McCartney since 1964, I have always found his B-Sides and unreleased songs to be fascinating but that's just a small audience I guess. Once I put these lists together and heard them again on YouTube, I was surprised how good many of them are. In some cases they are better than some of the songs that actually made the original albums during the corresponding time period when they were written. I guess that you almost have to be a hardcore fan to be interested. That is why I agree with you that the idea of an "Leftovers and Rarities" album does not have a large enough audience to be realistic. That is also why I liked Bruce's idea of an "1 CD Starter Package" to begin a Leftovers and Rarities Album/CD . By making it relatively small, it could have an introductory retail price of under $10.00. This along with good reviews and publicity would get "casual" Beatle and Paul fans to give it a chance.
As far as some of the "selected" tracks on my 1 CD to cut, I actually like Sally G quite a bit and it is "unknown" to the majority of Beatle and Paul fans. One thing I always loved about the Beatles is how expansive their genres covered. I always liked the early Beatles' song "In Spite of All the Danger" and some of Paul's other Country type songs in his Post Beatles Career. There are many examples like "Country Dreamer" which is another good B-Side like Sally G.
The other song that Yankeefan felt could be cut is "I Can't Imagine". I agree with this possible cut especially the way the song was finished in the studio even though they initially put it out as a B-Side. Usually Paul and his team would do the "B-Side" as close to perfect as it can be, but in this case (and my opinion) they fell short. "I Can't Imagine" is too long and the chorus is too repetitive. I actually love the chorus but it was repeated once or even twice too many times. Musically I love the portion at the very end so that's not an issue with me. Length can sometimes be a problem with a track and in this case, it was a tad too long and repetitive. Again I've said several times here that "I Can't Imagine" would definitely needs some editing. But I always thought the song had a great deal of potential if it was done correctly.
If there are too many tracks on this CD anyway, a couple of songs I could see cutting from the 22 tracks is:
" Cage" (from the Back to the Egg Sessions) and the very early Paul Solo song called "Love Mix/Waiting for the Sun to Shine". I like both of them but if would be forced to cut, that would be where I would start.
Finally I agree that using the word "Fabulous" to describe Jimmy's introduction to MIA was a bit much (cute would have been better!) but if you have to include MIA for "Sales Purposes" the introductory part would make it more of a "rarity". I have to admit that I don't listen to "live" FM radio very much at all but when I hear MIA as part of a playlist (e.g Spotify, Pandora) I almost always hear the shorter, studio version. Just my experience.

I think Sally G is the best country song ever written ( by anybody) and to think it was written by somebody that doesn't even specialise in that type of music, is amazing Once you've got those lyrics imbeded in your noggin, it's darned impossible to hear that song and not sing along to it. Just saying like. Oh! No! NO! NO! NOOOOOO!!! HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!! I CANT HELP IT!!!! "Somewhere to the south of New York City, lies the friendly state of Tennesy!! Down in Nashville Town I met a pretty. Made a pretty big fool outta me".....
-
I will reiterate, "Sally G" is not a bad song it is I am just not a fan of "old time" country music. The song is actually well done, and I agree that not many Beatle/Paul fans know the song. The country music of today is much more "pop" oriented than "Sally G". Your idea, your choice - ha ha.
I will bring up a point about MIA. You can get this song on the album (McCartney) and live versions of the song on the albums "Wings Over America" and "Tripping the Live Fantastic". If you are somebody that might want to buy your compilation, I think you probably have this song and having it on this compilation would not be reason to buy it IMO.
One other thing that I have mentioned before and thought it would be cool for your CD. Paul stated that he had already written 20 songs for the musical "It's A Wonderful Life" and sadly it appears that it will never hit the stage. There has not been any word on this show for several years now. That being said, one or two demos from the songs he wrote for that show might be neat addition to your compilation.
I think I have said plenty on this subject so time to wrap it up with final thoughts. I like the idea of having these "rare" songs on a CD. Your choices of B-sides, live concert cuts and demos are perfect for this type of CD. If I could be picky, I would try to find some song from his sound checks that is not well known and add it to your CD. I will repeat I don't see a project like this happening during Paul's lifetime, MPL is mostly into re-issues. That does not mean this would not be a good idea, maybe many years from now when Paul's estate needs to empty the vaults -lol.
Weather is awful in Charlotte so I will try to find some indoor things to do today, my daughters are coming over later so that will be very nice as always.

You could always play Beatles Monopoly. It's very good!

Had no idea there was a "Beatles Monopoly" -lol. Listened to some music (McCartney, Foo Fighters, Wolfgang Van Halen), played backgammon with my wife and started new book (Death in The City Of Bridges). I don't cook very often but I made chili for dinner.

Yes, there’s Beatles Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly and Scrabble! I have the first two.
I just looked on Amazon and the Monopoly one I have cost $120! I got it when it came out in 2008 for a lot less! They don’t even have the Scrabble one - probably on eBay though.
