@toris I still think the best parts of Free as a Bird are the Paul and George additions.
They made out like Real Love was a "new" song. But it was on the Imagine documentary movie soundtrack from 1988. The opening track. I never understood that.
Well, it was “new” in the sense that now Paul, George & Ringo were on it. It became not just a John solo song, it became a Beatles song.
True, Nance, but my recollections of the time were that it was said that it was an "unreleased" song.... When it was clearly already released as part of the doco. The first song.
Not to worry. All good!

@toris I wish they would use the new technology to go back and extricate John's voice on the two songs done back in 1995...."Free As a Bird" and Real Love." Jeff Lynne did a great job, but the songs could be vastly improved with AI. Maybe they could ever so slightly pick up the speed of "Free As a Bird," which was just too slow. Ringo's drumming is great considering what he had to work with, but it just drags the song along.

I agree. George Martin, if he’d had the technology, would have gotten them to speed it up like he did with Please Please Me!

Hi All,
apologies if this has been covered before but i have been reading in the UK press about a new and final Beatles single, rumoured to be 'Now and then' however doe's anyone know anymore about this such as when it will be released, will it just be this one song and will it be released in the usual formats, CD, digital, etc.
Thanks

@Beatle-Ray welcome to you.

@beatle-ray It will be on the Blue Album (The Beatles 1967-1970) which no longer will have dates attached. (The Red Album will not have 1962-1966) Both the Red and Blue are being remixed with added songs to make 3 sides in each instead of the 2 they each now have. The Blue will have remixed versions of Free As a Bird and Real Love as well....along with other songs. My understanding is that the existing Past Masters CD's (Dreadful cover art) will be on the Red and Blue albums as well....which are singles left off proper albums in the UK along with the B sides to those singles. Other songs will be selected as well. The Red album, in particular, was very short, with fewer songs, and will be beefed up. This is what I have read about online regarding the next remixes coming out. There is to be an announcement on August 10th on just when the remixes will be released....but sometime in September seems the logical time frame for release.

Not a big fan of them doing this, felt the same way with "Free as A Bird" and "Real Love". Basically, taking a demo with Lennon vocal and trying to put together a decent song many years later. Does Paul or Ringo add vocals or do they just add some additional music? Hopefully it will be decent, but my expectations are not very high.

According to media reports, Paul and Ringo do backing vocals as well as instruments, and there's guitar work by George from the "Anthology" sessions when they first worked on the song. I'm looking forward to it. I really liked "Real Love," though I wasn't as fond of "Free as a Bird." This is the last time we'll ever hear all 4 Beatles together on something new. Sigh...

I am incredibly looking forward to it. This being said, it's not exactly a "new" song, and there are many versions of it floating around.... many of them raw and unfinished. And not all are great.... But, I look forward to the finished product!!! Let's see how it goes! Hopefully, all wonderful!

@yankeefan2 This is not the same as the other two at all. This is a real, properly done Beatles' song, not a footnote...touching, majestic....all we could have hoped for but never imagined we would get. I think you will change your mind.

Hope you are right.
