Ron Howard Directing Beatles documentary
-
Interesting news! Director Ron Howard will interview Paul, Ringo, Olivia and Yoko about the Beatles touring years 1960-66 . Rare archival footage will be included. https//music.yahoo.com/news/ron-howard-directing-beatles-doc-focusing-bands-early-130006990-rolling-stone.html

This sounds really cool. Thanks for sharing!

I could live without the Yoko and Olivia interviews. No offense to them but this is a part of the band's history that they weren't part of, so including them just comes off as political correctness to make everyone happy.

They should be interviewing Cynthia way before they interview Yoko for that Era if anything.

I was thinking the same thing, about Cynthia. But Yoko would no doubt not allow her to be involved.

Absolutely agree about interviewing Cyn! I'm so very tired of Yoko's revisionist versions of Beatles history.
-
PAST INTERVIEWS FROM MAL EVANS AND NEIL ASPINAL! THEY WERE THERE!
-
Speaking of Cynthia, did anyone read her book "John"? I actually have a Limited Edition signed copy I ordered when it came out. Pretty neat.

Exactly, Yoko will never allow it to happen and it's darn right sad! Yoko didn't know John during the time frame this documentary will be about. Granted neither did Olivia as far as knowing George but I trust her judgement regarding the Beatles' history much more than I do Yoko's, she doesn't try to deny George's ex's existed either.
-
Ron Howard isn't a schlub, I hardly think he'll allow interviews of Yoko and Olivia to be part of the main narrative. He'll do it right. They have to be involved because they represent George and John though, so I am not at all surprised. I wonder if Mark Lewisohn will be contributing at all or used as a technical advisor. I kind of hope not because I want him to focus on the next book
-
I wouldn't even want Cynthia to be included, tbh. Interviewing Paul, Ringo, George Martin and others who were directly involved with the Beatles should be enough. Everything else is just gossip and not that interesting. I can just hear Yoko: "John loved performing, it was in his blood" (even though he rarely performed live after the Beatles) "John was a natural leader on the stage, he owned the audience and was the one everyone looked up to" (even though it was usually Paul who addressed the audience during concerts.) :

Dear Richie C Please leave Yoko out . Use actual John quotes and interviews rather than John told me this stuff from Yoko. I don't want Yoko spin on a period she was not involved in. yours in trust, Apollo C.

I suspect you're right about Yoko and Olivia interviews. Still, in all the years they were married to John and George, it's quite possible they told some stories of those days that haven't been heard before, right? (Some people can't resist hatin' on the wives, can they!!) Ron Howard could do a good job, but he hasn't exactly been on a roll lately with his movies. We shall see!
-
I don't believe there is any "hating" as you say, on the wives. They just were not there in those EARLY DAYS as Paul sings. (Early Days of the Beatles) I agree that Paul, Ringo & George Martin are quite able to handle that period in time.
-
I much prefer Ron Howard to be involved in this than a million other directors and producers. It's a good start, at least. He comes across as an honest kinda bloke. Was quite happy to remove his hat during the Happy Days reunion and reveal his bald head and have a laugh.... So un-Hollywood.... Yep, I think he's going to be much better than most. Hope, and trust, he will be more faithful than most.

They should interview Barbara Bach and her sister. They went to Shea Stadium to see the Beatles. This sounds good. Looking forward to it

Cynthia has to be in it. She was with John on the first trip to America. So does Patti. She was part of those years as well. Their recollections are essential. It has to be up to them of course. As for Olivia and Yoko, I'm sure George and John told them stories that would be fascinating to hear. Like it or not they are the keepers of the Harrison and Lennon estates.

"Authorized" accounts rarely please everyone. I'm much more interested in "unauthorized" documentaries. Granted, given his stature, Paul does the best job he can to tell things accurately -- while respecting the legacy, which can mean more "selective" recollections sometimes. While Wingspan was a very, very lovely tribute to Linda McCartney, it really should not have been called Wingspan. The fact that Denny Laine, Steve Holley, Laurence Juber, surviving members of Jimmy McCulloch's family, etc. were not included in the project left a lot of holes in the full story. I would hope that Ron Howard would keep this in mind.

Yeah, I have both her books.
