'The Fifth Beatle’ Movie to Start Production in 2014

I will go for George Martin of course Brian introduced the Beatles to George, somewhat by default not design, however Brian would not have been this great manager if not for the music.

When you see the movie you will understand why Paul and others said Brian was the Fifth Beatle. When he died it was the beginning of the end of the group. John Lennon remarked: "I thought; We've f...ing had it."

Billy. I didn't realise George actually gave him My Sweet Lord first, but when it bombed he decided to put it out himself. Why did the need evolve to nominate and prescribe someone as the fifth member of the greatest group of all time? I don't believe in "fifth Beatle" (I just believe in me...) But if I had to nominate one who fit the bill, it would have to be George Martin ahead of the others.
Of course! It was late when I wrote that and I couldn't think! Answer to your question: There was this disc jockey in NYC called Murray the K, and he started calling himself the "5th Beatle" (he coined the phrase) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_Beatle

The actual "5th Beatle" was Stuart Sutcliffe.

Randy, you are correct when one is referring to an actual Beatle! The problem comes when most people only think of John, Paul, George & Ringo as "The Beatles" and then start talking about "the 5th Beatle."

http://variety.com/2013/film/news/the-fifth-beatle-movie-to-start-production-in-2014-1200919934/# Producers are touting ?The Fifth Beatle? as the first-ever film about the Beatles to secure music rights to the Lennon/McCartney music catalog.
I protest calling Eppy the 5th Beatles. I suggest they change the title to "The Screwed Beatles." Why? Because he screwed the Beatles......outta 20% here and there and each. One 20%!! That's all! Not 20% outta John, Paul, George and Ringo! He was making 80% total! I know, I know, in the print version of "The Beatles Anthology" by The Beatles, Paul stated that Brian was a lovely man, but a bad business man! Yes, BAD! Col. Tom Paker made 50% off of Elvis. Allen Klien wanted to make 25% off of the Beatles, if Paul signed the contract with John, George and Ringo. But Paul suggested 20%, "We're a big group. 20%"
still, without him, they'd never have made it out of LIverpoole. Who else but a desparate Brian would have gone to George Martin and Parlaphone?

I like the idea of this movie but problem is, how many are really going to go see it? I hope it gets good reviews.... and I didn't even need to mention it because we are already debating who the 5th Beatle is... I cant really rank who the 5th Beatle is supposed to be, I mean there are a lot of contestants. but yeah, If it was a death situation where I had to pick one, I would say George Martin. I think it would be interesting going over the life of George in some way like this movie is planning to do with Brian. I don't think ive heard of a sort of film that does that with George, if there is, tell me about it, im interested

I'm going to go with a movie debunking the existence of a "Fifth Beatle". No such thing. No "Second Elvis". No "Fifth Beatle".

Stuart was the bass player when they first went to Hamburg as The Beatles. They were a five piece band of John, Paul, George, Pete Best, and Stuart. Well, as we all know, two years later Pete was kicked out and replaced by Ringo. Stuart on the other hand, tragically died in Hamburg. And as we also know, he was never replaced by anyone and they were forevermore a four piece. But he was an actual member of the group, so he is the true "Fifth Beatle."
-
Randy, he knows all that--he was being funny saying "Excuse me?" because HE is the "5th-beatle!"

Well there are probably others who really don't know, so they get the story anyway.

There should be a movie about Sir George Martin. I'd find that a bit more entertaining and informative, than one about Brian Epstein. But only slightly more so... It's their film, of course it's a good thing, and they can call it what they like...but: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=68389&highlight=fifth+beatle Still, I'll be chuffed to finally see it! We could just try to elect him KING instead, as a consolation prize...

In reality, yes. But for purposes of a movie, it has to be Brian Epstein. A movie about George Martin would go nowhere. Brian, however, with his ultimate outsider....becoming ultimate insider but with a very secretive private life, is more compelling for purposes of a movie. I thought they had already...or at some earlier point for some other movie???...selected Benedict Cumberbatch for the role. Excellent choice, IMO.

Hmmm...would be a great choice, but it's not listed on his imdb.com page.

Tony Bramwell would probably love to be thought of for that appellation "The 5th Beatle," knowing Tony as I sort of know him as a facebook friend. But as noted, "Eppy" deserves it most, probably. He made some bad deals along with the good but the Fabs were the first SuperStar Band, and they and Eppy were breaking new territory. Forging ahead boldly, without much of a map! It's wild they're already making a movie from this book and it just came out recently. That indicates Brian Epstein has much more of a place in pop culture than you'd think, judging by how out of the limelight he's been, overall for several decades, until now. This movie can also be an inspiring "up with Gays" film, showing various hardships Brian endured for being homosexual in England at that time, and how that wasn't right or fair. It will be interesting how the movie deals with Brian's and John Lennon's holiday together to Spain, which has raised some eyebrows wondering what went on. Or maybe that ties in with the anti-homosexual discrimination and should not be touched on, in the movie? Their trip together? And numerous accounts that Brian was in love with John? And some were scandalized by their shared Spain holiday, with the other Beatles left out.
