Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023
-
Hello everyone,
I am curious what kind of music style you would like to hear when Paul releases a new album of originals? What would you prefer? I would like a ‘bass heavy’ album. Preferably with another bass than the Hofner. Or at least some tracks with other basses. I would also really like another piano rocker. And last of all I would be very curious how a song would sound when Paul throws in a little 80s. But on the other hand, that is going on so much right now that I hope he is not going in that direction. In the end I just want a real Paul sound and I can’t wait to hear what his latest sound is. Slidin and Long tailed winterbird sounded so fresh.
I would like to hear your thoughts!

@b-j-conlee
I finally completed my proposed Paul McCartney Album/CD for sometime in 2023. The name for the Album/Project is Leftovers and Rarities. My goal for this project is to create a Paul McCartney Compilation that contains a tracklisting that for the most part did not make his original Albums. In other words, the majority of these songs are "leftovers" or Extra Songs not on the original McCartney albums. For that reason alone, many of these songs are "rarity" types of songs. In general, most of these songs could be classified as:
Unreleased songs
B-Sides to Singles
Live Versions different than Studio Recordings
Songs written for Movies and other SoundtracksBased on this criteria, the tracklisting here is far different than Paul's previous Compilations.
The packages are broken down into the following:
22 Track/ 1 CD Starter CD
2 CD Sets of Post-Beatles' Songs from 1970 to 2022I've further divided these Sets into Paul songs from 1970 to 1999 and 2000 to 2022. Basically, it covers his entire career (Solo and Wings) to the current year 2023.
As a big time Macca Fan, I think Sir Paul needs these Compilation Sets for his Legacy. His full career is far more than "Beatle Paul" and his Solo/Wings Hits. He has never stopped Writing Songs so hopefully these Packages cover many songs that to casual Paul/Beatle fans are mainly "unknown". The majority of these "unknown" songs are not "throw away". They are still high quality songs that deserve to be heard in my opinion.
Please take a look at the various Setlists. As always, you can quibble over some of my selections, but on the whole, I think they are pretty good.
Keep in mind that the "Starter" cD would be released first. Let me know what you think.
Thanks

Now getting to the"Starter CD". I love this Collection of Songs that start Leftovers and Rarities. The most known song is easily Maybe I'm Amazed but instead of the "Studio" release you hear all the time, I substitute the Wings Over America "LIVE" or Rockshow Version. Anyone who has seen Paul McCartney over the last 20 years in Concert knows how difficult MIA is to sing, but this version is Paul at his peak vocally. The rest of the "Starter CD" is filled with rare gems including released B-Sides, unreleased songs, and Rare Demo's. I ended the CD with 2 Extra songs from the Egypt Station Sessions. These final 2 tracks did not appear on the Egypt Station Album.
I believe with proper marketing (every song has its own unique story) this "Starter" CD will get this Series off to a great start and actually "Presell" all the other Sets.
All in all, I love this selection of songs that are enjoyable for both Hardcore and Casual McCartney/ Beatle fans. Talk about great songs that you'll never hear on the radio because they are indeed "Rare".
Just scroll up and look for this "Starter" CD. Please comment or ask any question on any of the individual tracks.

After the Starter CD is Released we then turn our attention to the "follow-Up" 2CD packages .
The 1st set covers Paul songs from 1970 to 1999.Looking at the tracklisting for CD #1 it covers all the 70's and into the 80's up to Press to Play;CD #2 covers mid 80's to 1999.
I can always quibble over some of my own selections but on the whole I like them, There was a couple of complaints that in some cases I wasn't "rare"enough on some choices. There were a few I included that were A sided singles on major McCartney Album Releases. Examples included 1) Arrow Through Me , 2) Pipes of Peace 3) Young Boy and 4)Hope of Deliverance. In these cases I wanted a "live" version that was different than the A-Side studio release. I succeeded with Hope of Deliverance (with a better "Live" version) but on the other 3, Paul never performed them live. Perhaps I should have gone with different, more "Rarer" songs or deeper cuts. On the other hand, Arrow Through Me, Young Boy and Pipes of Peace never got strong Airplay at least in the US. Perhaps it was a reflection of the times that aging Artists got less airplay as they got older. In the 70's Paul generally got tremendous airplay with his A-Sided Singles. In the end, I was happy with the inclusion of all 4 Songs because they made the individual Discs they were on stronger. I was conscious of the big hits that Paul had (eg Silly Love Songs, Let'emIn, Ebony and Ivory, Say Say Say, With a Little Luck, Listen to What the Man Said etc. and never considered them for this kind of Collection like Leftovers and Rarities. Still, the bulk of the tracks and their specific versions on these Discs, I still consider them to be more on the "rare", non-hit side.
If you're able to see my tracklisting for the songs from 1970 to 1999, let me know what you think.
Thanks again for your attention. -
@b-j-conlee In my case I would scroll “down” because I have the most recent posts at the top.
It’s too bad all your ideas couldn’t be submitted to MPL for serious consideration. Unfortunately, they’d just end up in the trash can (or “bin” as they call it!) I wish someone here actually knew someone associated with MPL who could give you an “in.” You put so much time and effort into all this! -
@njr
Thanks Nancy. You're right...It has taken a lot of time and thought. Like you, I'm obsessed being a McCartney "Music" fan. Just hoping that Paul or one of his close friends reads this topic on Maccaboard and agrees that Paul has too many high quality songs that are basically "Unknown". As I have said, a Compilation like I've detailed is currently missing from his Post Beatles Discography. Too many good to great songs that should be far better known. -
My dream kind of McCartney album is 3-4 classic rockers, a couple of acoustic guitar songs, a piano ballad and a keyboard rocker like "Fine Line". Throw in a couple of midtempo pop style songs and that would work for me. I do not need a bass heavy album from Paul, actually like it when he plays some lead guitar.
The songs you mentioned from "McCartney III", I really liked. I would add that I loved "Find My Way", "Seize The Day" and "Winter Bird/When Winter Comes
-
After scrolling through my "Starter" CD and the 2CD Lists of songs (from 1970 to 2022) Yankeefan is right. I have included a few songs that are not "Rare" at all. Maybe a better title for this Compilation / Collection should be something like "Leftovers and Hidden Gems". Take out the word "Rarities" totally.
The "Tracklist" surely isn't perfect, I have already thought of a few songs that would better match the title (whatever we call it). Some of my additions/ substitutions could be:- That Day Is Done- Paul/Elvis Demo; better than Studio Version imo
- Tommy's Coming Home- Love this one
- Kicked Around No More- from fOff the Ground Sessions and another Extra Song that didn't make the original Album.
- Keep Coming Back to Love- Another Extra Song
from Off the Ground Sessions. - Style Style- Yet another Extra Song from Off the Ground Sessions
Thanks for all the comments/suggestions

@yankeefan2 Cool! I’d settle for 4-5 rockers on an album any day

Well...
I just want a new album of new material... projected as it always was:
13 songs.
A wonderful opener, that isn't the single. But packs a punch.
A nice song that projects meaning. This is the song of the 'woke'. Even if it is just to shut them up.
A soft ballad. Timeless. Could've been released at any time of Paul's career.
An absolute rocker. I want the Oh! Darling voice.
The Number One Hit.
Something that might've done Fred Astaire proud.
Something crazy and funky and experimental.
Back to pure pop.
Time for an epic, that goes for longer. Something akin to The Back Seat of my Car would suffice. The Longest track on the album.
Time for the second Number one Hit.
Back to an epic rocker.
Another pure bliss pop song.... Daytime, Nighttime Suffering, as a comparison would suffice.
Time for another brilliant ballad. This one closes the album out, four minutes long.
Really, it isn't that hard...

@toris I’d love this!

@dennis-arts
I also agree with all of you. A new album of all new material. But my big question...is it ready for 2023. The last thing we want is a new album that is just mediocre at best. We want another great album like Chaos, Tug of War or Flaming Pie. If the new album is along that quality, bring it on n. If not, let's be patient. I don't mind waiting till 2024. In the meantime, let's have the "filler" album now! One thing for sure, it has all that Tori's wants...rockers, ballads, pure pop etc. and vocals when Paul was close to his peak. Just look at the "Starter" album/CD again. It has everything you guys want plus the majority of the song are mostly "unknown" to casual Paul and Beatle fans. Why shouldn't these songs be universally known:My Ol Friend
Goodbye
A Love for You
The Mess
Sally G
Daytime Nighttime Suffering
Waterspout
Rainclouds
On the Wings of a Nightingale
Yvonne's the One
Loveliest Thing
Back on My Feet (Paul's Demo)
The Lovers that Never Were ( Paul/Elvis Demo)
I Can't Imagine
Love Come Tumbling Down
Flying to My Home
Love Mix
In a Hurry
Home TonightTalk About an "existing" Album/CD of great songs!
