The Beatles Mentioned on TV

She shares being the host with Ken Jennings. (he is former all time Jeopardy contestant winner)

Being aware of the Beatles and knowing something like "Moptops" or the song "Strawberry Fields" is different things. I did not say you said they were not smart. I was just stating because you are not great in one category it does not mean you are not smart. Actually, I am surprised when younger people today know anything about the Beatles. That is due to these generations IMO don't care anything about any type of history for the most part. I know I did my part (ha ha) as a parent and exposed my daughters to Beatles (classic rock) music and they love it, they are in their 30's. My oldest daughter (dance teacher) one year used instrumental version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as a recital song for one of her dances a couple of years ago. She was pleasantly surprised that when she asked the class if they knew the song, most of the 11-12 year olds at least knew it was a Beatle Song.

Agree 100%. These generations have no appreciation of history which is sad. As a young boy who loved the Beatles, I knew about and appreciated the music of my parents' generation. My mother was a big Frank Sinatra fan and had a wonderful collection of "big band" era records. Probably one of my favorite moments with her was when I took her to a Frank Sinatra concert in NY many years ago.

That would've been awesome! The great Frank. I got into the Beatles cos my mum had some records and she went to the 1964 concert in Melbourne.... And then I evolved into a massive Beatles' fan. I know so much more about them than Mum... And when Paul (FINALLLY) came back to Australia in 2017, I took my mum and my daughter. Three generations. It was a great time!

I had always heard that John got back in the studio after he heard Paul’s song “Coming Up” but this is what they said on The Chase 6/29/23:
Stepping away from music when the Beatles broke up, John Lennon got back in the studio after what 1979 song inspired him?
Whip It
Rock Lobster
Another One Bites The DustThe Chaser, Brandon Blackwell, correctly said Rock Lobster.
The contestant guessed wrong (AOBTD)But also, John didn’t “step away from music” when they broke up! He recorded tons of stuff 1970-1975! I may have to send an email to ABC regarding this!

Well, from my recollection also, John loved Coming Up.... which is strange, cos I wouldn't have thought that was a song John would gravitate to (but I love it, and the video!)..... and my understanding also is that song got him back into music..... now, Rock Lobster, great song... but I think John was saying that Yoko was ahead of her time, cos of all the weird screaming in it... and he was comparing Rock Lobster to Yoko contributions.... and thought she was an influence.... so, I agree with you Nancy. It was Coming Up that John loved (which I still find it weird that John would like it, even though I love it), which got him back into the music scene. It wasn't Rock Lobster, even if he did find some comparison of it to Yoko.... Definitely, it was Coming Up.... well, from what I recall.... ps. I do love Rock Lobster.
The ABC.... wrong!
-
@toris ps. Coming Up is one of Paul's most inventive songs. Underrated. With Goodnight Tonight.
-
@toris I sent an email to the guy at TV Guide magazine who answers questions (and has even privately emailed me back but didn’t print my email in the magazine)
-
@njr As long as he got it right. I cringe when watching that show these days and a Beatles' related question comes up. To me, everyone should know the answer. I mean they are The Beatles, after all! I especially hate if no one even rings in to try and answer correctly. I believe one not that long ago involved guessing "Strawberry Fields Forever" and no one even tried!!!!

That confused me a bit too. Did he (John) mean the live version of "Coming Up," which I liked, or the studio version on the album, which I sort of didn't care all that much for....the vocals were a bit too similar to how he sang the dreadful "Temporary Secretary." That album contained three gorgeous ballads/songs...."Waterfalls," the even more beautiful "One Of These Days" and "Summer's Day Song." When I bought the album, the vocal on "Coming Up" was not to my liking. But next up...."Temporary Secretary" sent me flying to the record player to shut the whole thing off. I never listened to that album again....not that I did then. Still haven't. The radio played "Bogey Music," and the DJ, obviously not liking it, said..."Well, at least he's still cute"....which he WAS on the album cover, but that was about it. Those are my thoughts on the whole thing!

Whatever version they first played on the radio was probably the one John liked.
