Yes, I saw that over on WogBlog. A commenter there wonders if this means a full-blown solo Beatles compilation is coming, since he says Universal now has the rights to all four Beatles' solo material.

Looking at iTunes, there's definitely a push to sell all their solo stuff. Solo albums are featured under "new" releases (Imagine, All Things Must Pass, Band On The Run, Ringo). Seems that each of them has a nice new page which organizes their releases in a pretty nice format. A few Ringo and John titles are missing (Two Virgins, Old Wave, a few others), but mostly everything is there, including live albums and videos, plus books and apps and other things.

Except Paul's masters. MPL still owns them including the new remastered reissues.

Do you mean MPL, or Concord/Hear Music? Where does that label come into it? I've noticed that they have re-released a lot of his later albums, too, without bonus tracks. I looked through some of the iTunes albums of Paul's, and almost all of them say MPL, but licensed by different entities, including StarCon, Concord, and Hear Music.

Scary iTunes. When I clicked the "Free" button in iTunes for download, Apple hit me up for my "Billing Information" As in "Credit Card Required". I didn't let that phase me. I don't have a card! So I inputted my name and address nicely and I still received the download as promised. So friends. Don't let that Apple "Billing Information" pop-up get you down! IT'S FREE!!!

I wonder if that mix of "Call Me Back Again" is from the new, upcoming "Venus and Mars" remaster?

I had just finished installing iTunes after losing it with a System Restore and I did have trouble with my password and I had to reset it, but I already had an account set up for the U2 album a couple of Sundays ago. Funny though, they didn't hit me up for "Billing Information" then, even though I had no card entered. My account still shows "No card entered". I would ignore the bogeyman.

I think the EP is a great introduction to their solo work for the millions of casual Beatles fans who never bothered to dig further or assumed that it wasn't worth listening to. However, I do wish that they would have chosen a different song for Paul. While I love "Call Me Back Again," a more grand and layered song (e.g. "Beware My Love") might have been a better choice so that listeners can make a more direct link to his Beatles material. CMBA sounded weaker than John and George's selections, which annoyed me as a Paul fan who believes that his solo material is generally stronger than the others and I would have preferred a song that conveyed that a bit better as an introduction. That said, I was glad to hear Ringo's duet with Paul be the closing track. While Ringo performs very well on it, truth be told, Paul really does make the sing great with his harmonizing (though I concede a bias :wink. I hope this latest Calderstone production leads to a more expansive proper solo compilation album - as an Apple release.

If the loose talk holds, then maybe the EP is only a teaser for an eventual album. Unless the EP was paid for by iTunes to promote iTunes, just like the U2 album seems to have been...I am guessing that.

That seems more likely to me. It's iTunes promoting itself, and its spiffy new pages for their solo work.

Thanks, just trying to sort it all out. I knew MPL was Paul's company(s), but didn't know how all the pieces fit. StarCon, ha! I should have guessed that's what it meant.

This mini-compilation should've at least chosen all their songs from the same era! A mish-mash.

I assume it's a combination of all this iTunes activity and John's birthday, but his "Power To The People: The Hits" collection just re-entered the Billboard 200 at #133.

If it does lead to both an iTunes and physical CD & l.p. release that would be great.
