I didn't mention my run-in with somone in the crowd. I found them quite aggressive, too. It was during Joel Plaskett, and someone had previous gone to "get more beer and pee" or something like that. Anyway, later, during Joel Plaskett, he returned...he came up behind us and said said he wanted to get through, and I said "sorry, there's no room in front of me", he was a huge guy, and would have blocked anyone any distance behind him, anyway, he proceeded to say "well f*ck this, I'll go through you" very roughly grabbed me, picked me up and shoved me out of the way, cursing all around him that the reason everyone was feeling the fallout of his aggressive behaviour is because "that b*tch wouldn't move out of my way". I was a little shaken, but wouldn't let it ruin my night. Luckily once Paul came out, it was easily forgotten. But I did find a lot of the crowd were ROTTEN in the front area. Aggressive, inconsiderate, and overall horrid. Guess it just takes a few bad apples, eh?
I've never been to a 'general admission concert'. I would be afraid that situations like you described would be common. Did the huge guy block the view of people?

That's the bad part about General Admission, it's the short people who suffer. And there's always some jerk who wants to ruin it for others.

Hi all: After reading Martin's post asking for trip reports I was moved to write one, so here goes, sorry if it's long-winded: I had this weekend off, and as it happens Monday too, so at pretty much the last minute, as amazingly tickets were still available, I decided to use frequent flyer miles to head to Halifax. Since I live in San Francisco this was kind of a crazy decision, but I couldn't resist seeing Paul and The Band. After flying all night on a red-eye and changing planes in NYC, I landed in Halifax at 11am. I think that everyone around me had a great time, and I was really glad that I blew my miles on coming out here. I am off to enjoy Halifax for today before I fly out tomorrow. I am hoping to make a later show, maybe Dallas or Tulsa, but may not be able to. So I am glad that I was able to share this one. And kudos to anyone who made it this far into my post? for someone who can be so incredibly shy I am long -winded in print, sorry!
Disneykristie, Thanks for sharing your story....How cool to be spontaneous and just go for it last minute....All the way from SFO too.... A really nice post, almost as if we were there....wish I was...sounds like so much fun! Oh and thanks for the idea about getting rooms at a local college... great idea!

Sounds like the a-hole in Vegas who literally knocked my friend to the ground and security wouldn't do a damn thing. So much for peace and love.

It wasn't too bad - he ended up in front of me about 10 feet, but to the left...so it wasn't too bad. But there was one more person who was about 6'1 or 6'2, an older guy (50's), who had a Quebec Plains of Abraham shirt on came and shoved his way past with his wife, and stood DIRECTLY in front of us. I'm 5'4, so it was needless to say, not appreciated. That's when we stopped letting people move in front of us. And shortly thereafter that's when the assaulting-guy arrived. We were standing by fantastic people other than that, and we managed to maneuver around so all of us could have a decent view. We were lucky, though, we were ridiculously close to the stage. We arrived at the gate at 1, though, so it was a wait of over eight hours...but well worth every second!

Sounds like the a-hole in Vegas who literally knocked my friend to the ground and security wouldn't do a damn thing. So much for peace and love. I know! I said the exact same thing. I think it's completely ironic it was at a Paul concert that this happened (though, yes, I get it happens at any concert). You would think by having such high ticket prices it might help weed out some of the general "concert hoppers" .

The concert in Halifax last night was wonderful. Such enthusiasm, energy, memories and melodies......... Paul, If you ever want a friend accross the pond, just email me....
-
I think everyone on this board feels that way, but then, if I saw an email from him, I wouldn't know how to believe it really was him. Poor guy, everyone wanting a piece of you. I can't help myself.

The concert was great. Paul was at the top of his game. For a 67 year old, he had all the energy of someone much younger than him. He was feeding off the infinite energy in the crowd, for sure. But it wasn't all perfect. The gates opened late. The shuttles didn't drop us off at the gate, either. When waiting for the gates to open, people were getting closer and closer to each other. Being so close and under that sun, it was terrible. Perfect when we finally got in. Also, there was some jerk who was pushing his way through the gate wait line. There was a guy standing next to me, and that jerk cut in front of him. The guy said something, and him and the jerk exchanged words, and eventually the guy said "morons". (I think there was another guy with him.) So the jerk turns around and says "I don't think so." Then he continues pushing through. Made his way past me. Turns out pushing through wasn't necessary. I found the perfect little spot. Recognized some people from the shuttle ride, and they became my landmark for finding my way back. I'll have photos and my full review later.

This will be my last post on the board. I expected a forum was to be a place where everybody could put forward their thoughts and opinions in a robust but mature way. Obviously aside from the few who always reply in that way (you guys know who you are, and thanks for all your posts - I've always enjoyed reading them) the rest are happy to hurl insults or post some of the most childish and inane stuff I've ever read. If this board is only for sycophantic "Paul can do no wrong - everything he does is genius - Paul's poo doesn't stink - all he touches is gold" then this ain't the place for me. Goodbye everyone and good luck! Enjoy your musings on what it would be like to kiss Paul and What is Paul's personality like...etc, etc, etc...all very rewarding and stimulating stuff for the true fans. Oh, and I'm sure that will keep the mods happy... In the meantime, I'll look elsewhere for stimulating and honest debate. Out. R

Calico Skies and Mrs. Vanderbilt are new additions since the last full-fledged American tour, as Calico Skies was added after Paul finished the Back in the US tour, right? (It's on the Back in the World live album, but not Back in the US). And I don't think Paul's ever played Day Tripper, has he? And other than a random few shows, the Memory Almost Full and Fireman songs are also new additions. A Day in the Life/Give Peace a Chance are also new to American audiences, except for those who saw him at Coachella and in Las Vegas. While most of us on this board have seen his performances of these songs on YouTube, they are brand new additions to the set list for the vast majority of even diehard American fans. Mix in these new songs with the "must have" classics, and it sounds pretty amazing to me! Woo-hoo! The set list sounds perfect. I can't wait to see him Saturday night at Citi Field!

Perfectly said, I completely agree!

My Salamander:
While I do love Paul's music and it is great to get another chance to see him, it is very surprising to see "Drive My Car" as the opener yet again. For fans paying big $$ to see him live again, "Drive My Car" seems like a really uninspired choice - seems like a bit more effort could've been made to select a song that we haven't heard countless times (either as an opener or otherwise) since 1993. "Junior's Farm" or even "I Want To Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You" would've been amazing openers....
Give your head a shake... the concert was for Halifax...they've never had the privilige of seeing him live before. So why the hell wouldn't he play the hits for them?????????? Jeez...selfish much????

MsProudSooner:
To all those who love to complain about the songs that Paul chooses to perform - I hate to break this to you, but you are in an EXTREME MINORITY. It's obvious by the reaction to his concerts that the man is doing something right. Coming here and complaining as you do isn't going to change anything. Personally, I would LOVE it if he decided to do a toor of smaller, more intimate venues, but I realize that my wish is unrealistic. I'm certainly not going to let the fact that that will probably never happen ruin my concert experience. Now, I realize you have the freedom os speech and all that. But, if you find it impossible to keep your complaints to yourself, why don't you start your own message board where you and like-minded souls could share your angst? It wouldn't be very busy, but it would certainly make this board more enjoyable to read.
I think if more Paul fans were honest about his setlist they wouldn't be the "EXTREME MINORITY". The one thing i've loved about Paul over the years is his capacity to not rest on his laurels. The setlist has only been a debate, because up until 2005 Paul's shows were a lot more varied,i'm just a little puzzled why he's suddenly stuck in a rut. It's nice to see reasoned debate about the setlist is frowned upon by some fans.I think insults are self defeating and leave the perpetrator looking rather small minded.Having a different opinion doesn't mean it's not valid.
You and about 10 other "complainers" are totally in the minority and over-ruled by millions.
