Paul's new album and promotion
-
I don’t care if he calls it “Bangers and Mash” as long as he releases it!
-
How about "Yonks At Sixes and Sevens"?
-
Hey, at least this is the first solid indication that the new album is close to completion. Send good thoughts!

I agree Nancy. Like I have said quite a few times, I am more into McCartney releasing new music than his seemingly never ending tours.

Yes, agreed!

Now that Sgt Pepper has been released, the focus for MPL should be switching to the new album. But taking a look ahead, there does not seem to be a whole lot of time to promote the album. We know it's eventually coming soon, I mean it will be sent to those who purchased tickets for the later shows on the tour. But when you look ahead, when will there be time? June.....although they are off, if would be quite difficult to do at this point without any advance notice. We are already almost in June July.......bulk of the month touring August....no touring and the band is not on call and off for the month September......back to touring most of the month in NYC area mostly October...we have at least 6 confirmed shows and 2 or 3 rumored ones This leaves November/December.....however at least some of that looks to be touring as well. Don't ask me where, I can't tell you but awefully good chance of some more shows. So this begs the question...How and when will this album be promoted? What does everyone think?
I am starting to wonder if something is wrong. I remember reading RS magazine article that it was one of their albums to watch for in 2017. Now we are into March 2018 and still no clue as to when it will be out.

Nothing is probably “wrong.” This is Paul McCartney we’re dealing with, remember? Lol!

I know everyone is anxious to hear the new album, but I'm glad he's taking his time to get it just right and how he wants it. He's always been a perfectionist when it comes to his music, and that's not a bad thing, it shows he strives to give his best! I'm sure like any artist, he has to feel comfortable knowing what he releases is the best product possible, especially when it comes to the mixing and editing.

A little update of sorts on Paul's album - Geoff Emerick tweeted a couple of days ago;
"Thank you Paul McCartney for calling me the other day! Look forward to listening to your new record. I'd love to mix it and be a part of it".
and posted on instagram;
"Paul McCartney my good friend called me the other day and asked me to go listen to his new record. I hope to see him this week and hopefully get to mix it.."
So things are very definitely moving and now i'm really excited!! Bring it on!

Thats encouraging news that Geoff Emerick may well be involved although it almost definitely means now that the album won't be out until October at the earliest.

I was hearing 3rd or 4th quarter prior to that so it looks to be in line.

Well that makes sense then. I was hoping we'd get the album a bit earlier in the year than that, but better late than never!
How do you think this will affect any live dates he might do this year, Bob? There are rumblings already about some dates in South America in October/November, which would fit nicely with an album release in Q3/4. I presume he wont tour again until after the album release, in which case we might have some months to go before we get any news in that regard. I must admit though, im not overly familiar with his tour patterns - I find them confusing to say the least. I just hope he comes to say hello to us in the UK this year!

With Emerick on board, the album must sound like late-period Beatles. Excellent news.

Let's not get carried away. Nothing I've seen confirms any actual involvement by Emerick. That he's aware of it and would love to be involved doesn't mean he will be.

Live dates are a mystery right now. Things are dead quiet, only rumors are these South American dates which I tend to doubt they'd be negotiating September shows before the summer shows are done. I find it hard to believe that June, July and August would go without any shows
it's all wait and see at this point. When things drop, they tend to drop quickly

Really looking forward to hearing it, whenever it does come out!!!

Paul does touch on the new album in his latest "You gave me the answer" from Yvonne. It was a good question asking Paul if he has ever intentionally explored "Latin" music and rhythms.
Paul tells us that the new album does have one song that is "decidedly" Latin. He then says that he's not sure the song will make the cut for the final album's track listing. Paul's never been good a song selection for albums over the years so if it doesn't make it onto the album, it's almost a sure thing that it will be better than many of the songs that do make the cut. Wouldn't shock me if it becomes a "B" side that everyone on this board will crave. Anyway, it is a good sign that it appears that he has a lot of songs vieing for a spot on the album. Hopefully more good to great new songs for his "massive Solo" Catalog that is so underrated.
The final part of this "You gave me the answer" episode is "trying to get Paul to give us more info on the new album but they tell us that Paul's lips was sealed on specifics. I'm guessing Fall of this year (September-October) to take advantage of the holiday buying period.

Sadly McCartney does not have a good track record with selecting songs for his albums and picking the best single to promote the new album. Like you have stated before BJ, many songs that don't make the cut are better than songs included on the album. This is where you hope he has a good producer who he will listen to about the songs he needs to select. I agree with you on the release of the new album, don't see it coming out before late fall.

I dreamed I heard part of a new McCartney song and it sounded soooooooooooo good...it's always an experience to actually hear music in a dream (*especially Paul's). I was running around in Tangier, Morroco with Mama (she appears in a lot of my dreams) and heard a snippet there in some kind of shop, and then some wild sounding Arabian music blared out in the desert surrounding the exotic city, quite a contrast to Paul's singing.
