But at the end of the day I really enjoy this song - if other fans don't, that's fine to we all have our own tastes. But frankly I seldom equate likely a song to liking an artist. They are all human and have faults - some more than others.
I think your contributions have been consistently measured and thoughtful. Thank you. parlance
Absolutely agree.

FWIW, the song has gone to #1 in Australia, giving Macca his first #1 hit there since Mull of Kintyre. On the whole topic of the song/Kanye etc. Here is my take, FWIW. I was not the least bit excited over the pairing when it was announced because I don't like Kanye's music or his act. My daughter loves alot of his music though. But the 2 songs that have come out so far are fine. Only One doesn't really do much for me, but FourFiveSeconds is a great pop song. Not a good one, a great one. It is instantly catchy, the performance is excellent - Rihanna in particular sings this song very well. The lyrics aren't really where I am at in life but that is fine. It's just a great pop song and not surprisingly is doing well. I've thought for years that if you took Macca's name off of some of his songs and had someone else sing them they could be huge hits. He can still write great melodies and frankly his lyric writing has been mostly excellent the last decade. No one but the big fans will hear it because he will never get on radio on his own and that is fine with me. But at the end of the day I really enjoy this song - if other fans don't, that's fine to we all have our own tastes. But frankly I seldom equate likely a song to liking an artist. Great news! Hopefully it will be #1 in the Hot 100 this week. Paul deserves another #1 in the States!

Down 1 to 5 in the UK this week, lack of streaming hurting it a bit. It's consistently been top 2 on iTunes.

Another classic Yeezy moment: https://instagram.com/p/zJJX3iIP0R/ Disclaimer: for those still not familiar with Kanye West's regular self-mockery: this is also a joke.

ojh please! do you really believe Kanye West has any music talent? you people listening to the beatles? oh please.. Kanye may be a well advertised and popular item, but "talent" is a big word. I can bet West will be forgot in a couple of years ...and, believe me, he's not even so popular in Europe. I don't beleive his music touches so many hearts or has that big significance for anyone. Such a big distance from the Beatles or any Beatle solo music impact
I work in an office with mostly much younger people, and I have to say that for folks under 35 -- which is the primary pop music audience -- Kanye absolutely touches hearts and has big significance. His stuff mostly doesn't speak to me, but I try not to confuse my own personal taste with Absolute Truth. I don't care for 95% of Kanye's stuff, but he absolutely has talent.
No really i don't confuse my personal taste with absolute truth. But we are comparing two things which are simply incomparable. Popular doesen't necessarely mean talented. Jutin Bieber is popular too and loved by many . Talented? Anyway, should Paul play live with West i would pay just to see him (Paul) grab his cortch
You know, all you have to do is change the names and this is exactly what my parents said about the Beatles in the '60s. Music (and all popular culture) evolves. Just because you don't like what's current doesn't mean it has no value. It really is bizarre to me to see how many Paul/Beatles fans have turned into their parents. I can't believe the crap these kids listen to nowadays!
So how are we ever going to tell unlistenable music from decent music from great music? Matter is we can't change the names so easily, we can't compare the Soft Machine with the Bealtes, can't compare JS Bach to Boismortier, can't compare Paul to Kanye. As long as music has a meaning.
Maybe we just need to acknowledge that there may be decent or even great music that for whatever reason doesn't speak to us. There are a great many musical forms and artists that just don't do it for me, but I'm not so arrogant as to believe I have the right to proclaim them to be without value.

Honey Hush by Kanye sounds wild and ear grabbing, wildly delightful in a Wild Honey Pie way...until he starts rapping It's the "song" that goes to the video of him and Kim on a motorcycle and she looks naked (again). The vid that Seth Rogan and James Franco amusingly parodied, a while back.

There was a write up in the papers this morning about Paul being the oldest person ever to have a Number One in Australia. A lot of other records involved with it, too. Beat Elvis in one of them. But I've never actually been a fan of the critic who wrote it. There were a couple of double-edged swords. Like (along the lines of).... but something about "Paul McCartney is the oldest person to ever have a number one hit, his first Number One since Mull of Kintyre... thanks to Kanye West." And whilst the records were being sprouted, there was also mention that he was one of nine people with song writing credits. He mentioned the length of time since Paul had last toured, citing "many lucrative offers". As I say, it was a double-edged article. But really, this article was also about Rihanna, who now, thanks to this song, has had her ninth #1 single in Australia, and closing in on Kylie Minogue (with ten) and Madonna (with 11) Either way, I can't mark this down as a genuine Paul #1. A co-writer with another eight people. Geez. Played an instrument on it. At best, he might go, "wow, I got a number one song in Australia"..... Best I tour again! That might make it a successful "collaboration".... for us down here.

Sure it counts. He's a co-writer of the song and he played on it. Obviously it's not Paul by himself. But it's not any different than the hit songs in which Rihanna is only a feature vocalist counting in her column.

Paul wrote and played on 'Goodbye' by Mary Hopkin, a single that went top 5 in at least 6 counties and yet I don't remember much fuss being made about that release. This whole episode reeks of desperation, fans trying to credit Paul as much as possible simply because he's incapable of having a hit single solely under his own name. I don't care for Kanye or Rihanna or Paul's involvement on their recordings. Paul is still making excellent solo albums on a regular basis and that's what counts.

I seems a little strategic in a desperate way but I still think it's a good song, for what it is.

It is a good song with a good beat. Enjoyable and it gives Paul another top ten which is nice. Where it ultimately ranks in his career, who knows?
-
Yes, time will tell if it becomes a classic or is soon fogotten. It has generated much hype. It is not uncommon that he collaborates and do guest appereances but these are trendy artists.
-
If it means anything, my 8 year daughter really likes it and we dance to it every time we hear it. I find it very catchy.

Well, then, I'd say it is a success!

Well kids like different stuff like anyone else, don't they? I'm not sure if I can use that as criteria... I was born in 1967, I guess I should be an Abba fan, or Kiss... but The Beatles was always my favorite band, even though I was too late from a generational perspective.

I love the Beatles. But I also like KISS and ABBA. Nothing wrong there!
