Where, oh WHERE does he get the energy?
Seriously. I'd say that I hope I'm going that strong at 71 -- but I'm not at 57!!!!

Paul's starting to catch fire a bit on the iTunes chart: #133, up from about #150 this morning. I ventured out to a store that I thought might have an early copy, but no luck. They did have the vinyl LP of Electric Arguments, but I couldn't justify $30 without the bonus tracks. Never did get that deluxe CD!
People don't believe me, but I'll bet money this is a direct result of yesterday's NY City Sinatra School for the Arts show. Kids are much less into physical formats than us oldsters, and by all reports they had a blast.

The Guardian is more influential in hipster music circles, which is why that 3-star review hurts. It might have helped sell a few more albums in the UK, where it doesn't look like New will chart all that well, compared with the US and Canada.
It's a shame it's looking to chart poorly in the UK, KOTB charted at number 3.
One thing I'll say about the promotion for this album: It's been very U.S.-centric thus far. I know he has a couple UK appearances lined up, but he's been concentrating heavily on my side of the pond.

"New" can be listened to nowon Spotify! Enjoy! My comments so far: some very good songs & even better production. A fusion of "Driving Rain" and "Memory Almost Full" with something new

A cup of English tea? I can't wait to read your review, I'll be logging in right after I finish work.

If we want Paul's album to have a chance to debut at #1, consider this: For first-week sales, Billboard counts sales of the CD/album bought in stores starting Tuesday, but anything bought in a store prior to that date will not count toward the total. Online purchases (including pre-orders) are fine, but if you somehow get a copy in a store before Tuesday, it won't help his chart position. I will be in a store somewhere Tuesday morning, probably either buying the regular deluxe in a Best Buy (not the Best Buy exclusive, unless it has the bonus tracks, which it probably won't!) OR in our local independent store that does Record Store Day events, where it will certainly cost more, but I may be able to get that "lighted cube" bonus! I won't be spending money on the Japanese version, knowing that "Struggle" could end up being available on some other super deluxe version that I'll be buying anyway later on.

Hi all, As of today (Friday October 11), the following versions of New are available in Australia - standard edition CD - deluxe edition iTunes download. I just got the CD and have nearly finished my first listen! Cheers,, Andrew.

Yes, well this is a first We want "Macca - out here" The last couple of Macca albums have done surprisingly on Aussie charts considering we are not in his touring domain, the new material is barely known about, promoted or played on radio. Come on Paul, if you toured we will make you #1 Bruce Springsteen is the only rock god as far as many are concerned, it would be nice for some Macca love its been 20 years!

Here's a snapshot of the iTunes album chart, ranking October 14/15 pre-releases only: #12 Pearl Jam #23 Timeflies [EP] #30 Chase Rice [EP] #66 The Avett Brothers #109 The Head and the Heart #111 Fall Out Boy [EP] #136 Paul McCartney And over at Amazon US: #2 Paul McCartney #3 Pearl Jam #8 Willie Nelson #12 The Avett Brothers #41 The Head and the Heart

One more time! Your guide to buying the "NEW" album. Standard CD with 12 tracks, plus 13th hidden track: Scared (with bonus lighted cube at some independent stores - and maybe FYE?) Standard vinyl LP - track listing not clear, release pushed back to November Deluxe CD (and iTunes deluxe download) with 12 tracks, plus hidden track, plus two bonus tracks: Turned Out, Get Me Out Of Here (with bonus lighted cube at some independent stores - and maybe FYE?) Target exclusive CD with 12 tracks, plus hidden track, plus DVD (30 minutes, Canadian tour "Rendez-vous" interview), no bonus tracks Best Buy exclusive CD with 12 tracks, plus hidden track, plus badge and photo cards* Japanese CD with 12 tracks, plus hidden track, plus three bonus tracks: Turned Out, Get Me Out Of Here, Struggle [looks like CD Japan is cheaper than Amazon.jp] Not sure if there's a Walmart exclusive CD yet. Looking bleak now. *Note that Best Buy is also selling the standard CD and the deluxe CD, and that their own exclusive CD has no bonus tracks as far as we can tell. For those interested in the color of the front cover artwork, it's definitely the orange/pink combo on the standard CD and LP, and it's definitely the blue/purple combo on the Target and Best Buy exclusive CDs (and apparently on the Japanese one). For the regular deluxe CD, it's unclear to me which colors are on it?online sources disagree.

At the zenith of the fun partying days, Paul reached down deep inside himself and drew out songs of deep compassion and meaning, "Let it Be," "Eleanor Rigby," "Lady Madonna," "The Long and Winding Road," etc., some even expressed great sympathy for women, had a feminist slant. "New" appears to feature some songs of similar significance, emotion and deep import. "Queenie Eye" lyrics, somewhat mystifying and enigmatic to me at first, nevertheless convey that he again delved deep down. No doubt others on the album will show that too. As well as really rock. Still haven't heard anything on this except for "New" a couple times and "Save Me" once--I've got a lot to look forward to, I'll be glad I delayed gratification once I get my grubby little paws on "New" and hear the whole thing virtually for the first time

I believe you will be proven to be correct!

This time females are "bitches and witches" (?) on one song, "Queenie Eye," but he's got a right--he's entitled to feel resentment and anger towards the opposite sex now and then, just as women can feel that towards men. (LOL)

Okay... Review delayed by paid work lol. But it's coming...
-
And the deluxe CD. I picked that up yesterday morning.

Haven't read the lyrics, but I thought when he mentioned bitches, he was referring to a female dog....which he just made reference to in the song. Or am I totally wrong?

P.S....note to American buyers. There is always a remote possibility that some stores may put out the CD on Monday evening. I had the good fortune to pick up Tripping the Live Fantastic when it came out early the night before the Tuesday release back in 1990 at some record chain store now extinct. Never know, could happen. There is or was something I was told back then about large stores not being allowed to put out albums early as it gave them an unfair advantage over the small independents. Sadly, not many of these still around.

Thanks! Just hearing the album will be a reward in itself, based on reviews and people's comments. Maybe I should sell my guide as an e-book. There's still time!
