i wouldn't get too worried about it not charting well in UK. kisses barely touched the itunes chart, its sales were amazon and shops and the supermarkets, and new is doing better on amazon than kisses was the week before release, its been selling in advance for a Month and was number 3 at one point three weeks ago. its just entering top ten right now, well its climbed from 21 this morning to 11 and is overtaking pearl jam. lets wait and see what the bbc coverage all next week does... it surely can't hurt sales
On Amazon US it is #1 for Rock and Pop, above Pearl Jam (at least right now). He is really marketing this album, seems to helping presales at least.
Also, I'm interested to see the Queenie Eye video. With all the celebrities and the supposed brilliant concept maybe it will become viral and further boost interest outside of the die-hard Macca fan base.

Much thanks for the comments regarding my earlier question about the British Press and what one may or may not conclude from the reviews in The Telegraph and The Guardian. What I have concluded, from reading those reviews myself, and the comments here about what that the reviews may mean...in terms of album sales, etc., is that the reviewers, each of them, wrote exactly what they thought their core readers expected of them. One was glowing without seeming to single out genuine reasons for that. The other, while not too negative, was written with his readers in mind. They expected something not too glowing, and that's exactly what they got. They, the readers, could continue with whatever perceptions they already had. (And yes, reading between the lines, the reviewer in The Guardian did give a certain impression that he wanted to be more favorable, but didn't dare. His readers would not accept him or more positive comments. ) Sad, because that's not the purpose of genuine music critics. As for Rolling Stone, if they (only) gave it 4 out of 5 stars, they're guilty of the same thing. As someone pointed out previously, they fall all over themselves if /when Dylan releases anything, even when his "output" consists or releasing the contents of some old tapes he found lying around his house. He automatically receives 5 stars. That's just a given. So, it, to some extent, comes down to us to spread the word...once we've listened to the album, of course. (Dylan could never have gotten the crowd McCartney got in Times Square today. Nobody else could have either.)

We wouldn't be seeing ANY of this smart marketing from EMI.

Oobu... you bring the wine. Or water. Something non carbonated. I don't want the sound of fizz distracting me from the songs lol
How about a cold beer...tonight!

Yup, this is the one. He delivered once again. Side B slaughters side A for me though.
Excellent. I've just heard Hosanna after saying I wouldn't!! Absolutely gorgeous, heart breaking even, the tape loops are stunning. Its Paul laid bare..
oh my...now I need to listen to that too.
I'm behind. Has anybody got the link to listen to the NEW album?
On one of these threads (there are so many) there was a link to the snippets of all of them. Here: http://www.allmusic.com/album/release/new-mr0004031955

The more I listen to the cover of Early Days the more I like it. It might be my favorite on the album even though I havent heard paul sing it yet. Those of you that have heard it what is your opinion?

So, which newspaper in Britain is more influential--or more widely read --The Telegraph or The Guardian? Anyone know? I ask because the review of Paul's "New" in The Telegraph is glowing....5 out of 5. The reviewer loves it. The one in The Guardian is less so, 3 out of 5 stars. The reviewer says Paul needs someone to edit him, etc., all the usual crap that some people just write down automatically without listening to anything. It's not totally negative, but goes all the way back to 'mentioning Teddy Boy' and how John hated/made fun of it, etc. What any of that has to do with "New" is a mystery. (It really was the comments by some readers of The Guardian, however, that astonished me. Many are absolute trash and very mean spirited. Paul is seemingly loved much more here in the states than in his home country. (When I was in Britain, I was astonished at how trashy many of the newspapers were; they were sort of like The Enquirer is here in America. Not what I had expected of the Brits!!!)
In print, the Telegraph has about 550,000 subscribers, about double the paid subscribers of the Guardian. But online, the Guardian gets 4 million unique visitors a month, compared with 3 million for the Telegraph (which charges for content after a certain amount of views each month). The Guardian is more influential in hipster music circles, which is why that 3-star review hurts. It might have helped sell a few more albums in the UK, where it doesn't look like New will chart all that well, compared with the US and Canada. Gees, the Guardian review is such a cliched review. : : People say Paul is stuck in the past about the Beatles, well, some of these reviewers are too. If any of you get a chance, you should go over there (http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/10/paul-mccartney-new-review)) and support the positive comments (the ones you agree with of course!). That said: 5 stars from the Telegraph A- from Entertainment Weekly 8 out of 10 in Q Magazine 7 out of 10 in NME (amazingly, since they typically hate him) 7 out of 10 in Uncut 7 out of 10 in Clash Magazine. That's pretty damn good!! And lets face it, the last time the reviewers gave Paul uniformly positive praise was more than 3 decades ago.
Great round up Michelley. The Guardian is definitely more hipster and also left of centre. Its actually a good read and still free online. Saying that I thought this reveiw was very lazy and cliched. What Teddy Boy and the 1969 Get Back sessions had to do with New I don't know?? I got the feeling Alexis begrudgingly liked a lot of New but didn't want to let on. Actually The Telegraph review was pretty lazy as well with lots of references to the ex! Baffling.
Michelley, I posted my thoughts on the Guardian review Under the "NEW" Reviews Post. This is the type of review that really disgusts me. From the opening paragraph you know that the critic is obviously prejudice towards Paul. If you want to read more you will find it in the other post. Still under "Not Such a Bad Boy". My main point here is to commend you for all your comments against the Paul haters responding to the review. You really battled them and you were outnumbered. I know that there are a lot of fans of Macca in Britain, but I can't believe the number of haters. Not the first time that a genius gets crushed by his own country/town. I loved your points about all the magnificent Post Beatle albums that Paul has produced...Ram, BOTR, Venus & Mars. How about Chaos, Flaming Pie, MAF etc etc. How about one of the greatest live albums of all time...Wings Over America. The reviewer obviously is a John deciple and believes that John was the Beatles. Any objective person looking at the facts knows this falacy. Just look at the music stupid (that's what I would say to Mr. Petridis. Paul was every bit as important to the success of the Beatles as John (And I'm not putting John down). The 2nd half of the Beatles was dominated by Paul. Most historians would agree with that. Anyway, I did like the fact that this Guardian jerk did like 4 of the songs. These were not the 4 songs I know so far which I love. If I love at least 8 of the songs, I can't wait for the album.

Where, oh WHERE does he get the energy?
Seriously. I'd say that I hope I'm going that strong at 71 -- but I'm not at 57!!!!

Paul's starting to catch fire a bit on the iTunes chart: #133, up from about #150 this morning. I ventured out to a store that I thought might have an early copy, but no luck. They did have the vinyl LP of Electric Arguments, but I couldn't justify $30 without the bonus tracks. Never did get that deluxe CD!
People don't believe me, but I'll bet money this is a direct result of yesterday's NY City Sinatra School for the Arts show. Kids are much less into physical formats than us oldsters, and by all reports they had a blast.

It's a shame it's looking to chart poorly in the UK, KOTB charted at number 3.
One thing I'll say about the promotion for this album: It's been very U.S.-centric thus far. I know he has a couple UK appearances lined up, but he's been concentrating heavily on my side of the pond.

"New" can be listened to nowon Spotify! Enjoy! My comments so far: some very good songs & even better production. A fusion of "Driving Rain" and "Memory Almost Full" with something new

A cup of English tea? I can't wait to read your review, I'll be logging in right after I finish work.

If we want Paul's album to have a chance to debut at #1, consider this: For first-week sales, Billboard counts sales of the CD/album bought in stores starting Tuesday, but anything bought in a store prior to that date will not count toward the total. Online purchases (including pre-orders) are fine, but if you somehow get a copy in a store before Tuesday, it won't help his chart position. I will be in a store somewhere Tuesday morning, probably either buying the regular deluxe in a Best Buy (not the Best Buy exclusive, unless it has the bonus tracks, which it probably won't!) OR in our local independent store that does Record Store Day events, where it will certainly cost more, but I may be able to get that "lighted cube" bonus! I won't be spending money on the Japanese version, knowing that "Struggle" could end up being available on some other super deluxe version that I'll be buying anyway later on.

Hi all, As of today (Friday October 11), the following versions of New are available in Australia - standard edition CD - deluxe edition iTunes download. I just got the CD and have nearly finished my first listen! Cheers,, Andrew.

Yes, well this is a first We want "Macca - out here" The last couple of Macca albums have done surprisingly on Aussie charts considering we are not in his touring domain, the new material is barely known about, promoted or played on radio. Come on Paul, if you toured we will make you #1 Bruce Springsteen is the only rock god as far as many are concerned, it would be nice for some Macca love its been 20 years!
