But I have grown to like his "older" voice on albums like Chaos and Memory Almost Full. He's not just a rocker. A good example is the song "You Tell Me" on MAF. It definitely has Paul's older voice but yet it is one of my favorite songs on the album.
'You Tell Me' is my favourite song from MAF as well. I also like Paul's 'older' voice, which is especially effective on a song like Scared, the stand out track on New in my opinion. Then again, on the new song (which I still think is a mediocre song by Paul's own standards), his vocals sound particularly hoarse and weak, no doubt from recent over use rather than simply the effect of aging. If resting his vocals for a few months would have led to an improved vocal performance then that's what he should have done. Releasing a sub-standard performance when it could have been avoided does his credibility no favours at all. I appreciate that Paul enjoys the adulation and financial rewards that his live concerts bring but personally I really wish he would stop wearing out his voice from simply repeating songs he has sung before and instead save it for his new material, which is far more important.
This is not a song on my Deluxe Edition of that album....I've never heard it or heard of it before. : :

Following 'Road', 'Scared' is the unlisted 13th track on the UK Standard Edition of New (and following 'Get Me Out Of Here', the 15th unlisted track on the UK Deluxe Edition). I'm quite surprised that the US editions of New doesn't have it on either. Here's the song anyway,

I really agree with this comment I also agree with B J, Paul has been touring so much over the last few years; I hope he rests his voice and spends more time writing and making great new music. I also love Scared off of New. For me, it's one of the standouts from the album. Simple melody but very personal and heartfelt lyrics.

Apple Scruff ...Some excellent points

.I'm too lazy to go downstairs and check, but it's on the U.S. Version, isn't it? It's on the deluxe edition and the regular edition according to this: (read the review that mentions bonus tracks) https://www.amazon.com/NEW-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00FKQ38OE/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1478553188&sr=1-1&keywords=new+paul+mccartney https://www.amazon.com/New-Deluxe-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00EUS9JF0/ref=pd_sim_15_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RC2551Z7DDTA32WYPCG5

.Thank you. I have heard it before, so it must be on the U.S. album. I just haven't listened to the album for a while. ...and haven't gone back to check yet. ops: I think I sort of dismissed it as not being memorable enough....when I first heard it.

I think Scared is probably a rather downbeat song to end what is basically an upbeat album so I can understand why you may have dismissed it on initial plays. Its a great song though and I just wish In The Blink Of An Eye was of the same quality, in terms of songwriting and performance.

What's strange is that on top of being "shredded" the voice sounds very "processed", surely if they were going to "process" it to death they could have sweetened a lot more, strange...

The song is now available for download on iTunes in the US, however the catch is it is an "album only" track...you have to buy the *entire* album just to have the damn song. No thanks...

Certainly he can do other things musically, he always has. The thing that gets to me is other people are telling him to retire, or to quit singing. If he still enjoys it, why should he quit... Do we have the right to tell other people how to run their life? He's an artist. Artists keep doing what they do, right up to the end of the end.... When Mattisse could no longer paint, he cut out paper and had assistants help him "paint" with the cutouts. http://www.henri-matisse.net/cut_outs.html Renior became arthritic with RA and yet he painted with paint brushes tied to his hands and people holding the canvases for him! http://www.openculture.com/2012/07/astonishing_film_of_arthritic_impressionist_painter_pierre-auguste_renoir_1915.html Look at van Gogh, he never stopped and didn't even sell but 1 painting. The over 900 other paintings he painted did not become famous until after his death!! An artist, is an artist, is an artist... I'm sure there are similar examples for musicians, it's just I'm really into art, and so I know of dozens of examples for art. BB King played in a chair when it got to that point he couldn't stand. Paul is certainly not there yet, IMHO He's an artist and he should have freedom to express himself creatively, however he wants!!! There are those of us who will always go to his shows and always buy his works and are very interested in seeing what he's going to surprise us with next!!! In a future world he will be so legendary and the children will ask their mothers... Mom, why did they try to get him to stop?!
Paul's fans have been telling him to retire since The Beatles split up. Imagine all the music that wouldn't exist today if he had listened. Remember when you were young and adults told you things like, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"? Those days are over. The internet isn't a place where people spread peace & love. When I was a teenager, no one ever told me to kill myself. That would have been unimaginable. Today's teenagers are told online to kill themselves every day. In the grand scheme of internet hate and bullying, dissing a Paul song is pretty mild.

Well, I am not sure I agree with you on Paul's fans telling him to retire when the Beatles broke up..... maybe the odd nut.... but I certainly agree with you on the perils of the internet, and the cowardice of the internet faceless and gutless bully.... a scary time to have teenage kids, particularly girls.... George Harrison had it right on Cloud Nine when he spoke about "the Devil's Radio".... and in many way he foretold the evils that Man/Woman/Child can do via Facebook/Instagram/Twitter, etc..... social media has a heads and a tails. And the flip-side is very scary and worrying.

Anytime I see a gossip magazine, I think of Devil's Radio. I'd love to hear what George might have to say about today's internet culture. He wasn't the kind of guy to hold back.

My thoughts exactly! People get on at me cause I'm a fan that's under 20 & if he listened to people telling him to retire or I gave into the fact that others thought it was weird then I would've denied myself a lot of my favourite songs from 1962-present. Which would've been 100s and 100s songs & my favourite concerts etc. So to me those people can sod off!!

Did you guys see it? How was it?

Am I the ONLY person here who has bought the "Ethel & Ernest" CD? It is actually quite delightful. Most of the songs on it are from the '30s and '40s, almost all British singers and bands. Of course, if you're not a fan of "delightful," look elsewhere. Yes, "In The Blink Of An Eye" is not exactly a classic, in my opinion. I agree that it sounds a lot like "The End Of The End." I'm not happy with the way Paul's voice sounds live these days, but I've gotten used to it on his recent recordings. There's really not much choice but to accept it or move on to some other artist, I suppose. I do think his current voice is appropriate for conveying sadness or regret or poignancy, for what it's worth. I happen to love "Scared." Someone noted that the working title of the song was "Mum and Dad" and wondered if it was written about Paul's own parents. I doubt it. The movie is about the artist Raymond Briggs's parents--how they met and made a life together, surviving the war and raising a child--so I assume Paul was just thinking it was a theme for the characters in the movie. Briggs is perhaps best known for his illustrated children's book "The Snowman." I bought the CD because it seemed to be the only way to have a physical copy of the song, and I strive for that wherever I can. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the whole thing so much, aside from the brief Carl Davis instrumentals, which are just adequate. It is nice to have a fresh interpretation of "Walking In The Park With Eloise," though.

It's an interesting song that takes a few listens to appreciate. I quite like these one-off numbers he does for films and other projects. It's a bit like the old days and the non-album singles he used to release. His voice is frail, maybe a bit too frail, but for some reason that only reminds me of his vocals on some of the early Beatles albums.
