All superb ideas...not gonna happen though!
Amen. I saw an interview (don't have the link, sorry) a year or so ago where he spoke about the band pushing him to learn different songs, and cited Golden Slumbers as one he thought would be too much work, but was glad he relented. You know, a song he played live every night for a year. So I don't hold out much hope for the kinds of things we'd all like to see.

It usually takes a long time too...I remember when they finally added "Day Tripper", Brian Ray said he had been pushing for it since the '05 US tour.

Hey now, Wix hadn't had to play tamborine before - Brian plays it on Hey Jude...

Paul is also commemorating the Sgt Pepper Anniversary by doing the 2 songs he's played countless of times. Dont think this current show will get me rushing out to buy a ticket as its practically the same as i saw in Berlin last year. Wish it wasnt the case cos at some point we wont be getting this.

After looking at the complete Setlist for the 2nd Japan show, it made my decision for me. The good news is that even though he will be appearing in my backyard (Tampa) I will be saving $200. or so. Let me just take a few minutes to dissect this Setlist. As some of you know from my posts, I am a huge Macca fan "musically". As I looked at the Non-Beatles' songs, that is probably the worst part for me overall especially when you consider what it could be. *Junior's Farm- like it and he hasn't played it to death *Letting Go - always like it but he now is playing it too much *Temporary Secretary - Paul trying to be "hip" because a few "dance" clubs play it...For me, I could name 50 Solo Songs I would rather hear. Goofy lyrics *Let Me Roll It - l used to love it, but Paul has played it to death and frankly he doesn't sing it well any more. He has so many great Solo songs he could replace it with *My Valentine - nice addition but at this point he should have replaced it with another tasty addition *1985- one of my favorites but now he is beginning to play it all the time; by this tour he should have replaced it with another great song he has never done *MIA - one of his signature songs but unfortunately he can't sing it anymore; just bite the bullet and replace it with another good Solo song that's in his current vocal range *Here Today - I understand why he has to keep it in the Setlist and I don't mind it at all; it's short and he can still sing it pretty well *Queenie Eye - nice addition but it should have been replaced by now. Why not add another Solo you haven't done before *New - ditto. It's just so stupid and lazy on Paul's part. It goes contrary to Paul's great "blue collar" work ethic. Ok it was a nice addition after the album came out but you have so many other greater Solo songs you have never played *Four Five Seconds - Don't get me started on this choice. Again, Paul trying to be hip. I can just see the audience (heavily 50 years and older) looking at themselves like what is this song. Stupid lyrics and Paul is one of 5 people I think with a writer's credit. Think of all the intelligent mature Solo songs that Paul has written that would be far better than this song. Might I also add that Paul can't sing it even decently. *Band on the Run - even though it has been played to death, it is a signature song so I do understand why it remains *Live and Let Die - ditto...it's a signature song with all the extra visuals so I certainly understand why it remains *Hi-Hi-Hi - nice addition but again Paul is now starting to overplay it when he has so many options.

I know I'm being a whiner but I'm being honest. Again, I'm a huge fan so it is hard for me to be critical of Paul but in this case I have to express my true feelings. Now the Beatles' portion of the 2017 Setlist. *Hard Day's Night - it was a good addition but I actually think if he is going to bring back Sgt. Pepper's reprise because of the 50th anniversary, that it would be a better choice for an opener. Still HDN is not a bad addition that he just brought back last year. *Can't Buy Me Love - Obviously a good Paul song but he has overplayed it over all the years. Why not a Beatles's song he has never played (I Want to Hold Your Hand) *I've Got a Feeling- he brought it back last year and not a bad addition *We Can Work it out - Again, one he has overplayed. Why not I Will, For No One or Penny Lane *In Spite of All the Danger - Ok addition that he brought back but there are far better choices he could do that he has never played (e.g. I Want to Hold Your Hand) *You Won't See me - more songs like this addition from last year and I would be be there *Love Me Do - Ok addition from last year but he has other greater songs (I Will, For No One, Two of Us) that I would like to hear a lot more *And I love her - always nice to hear and he hasn't overplayed it *Blackbird - signature song that he has to play and even though I'm a little tired of it, it's short and I understand why it has to remain *The Fool on the Hill - nice addition last yearthat he hasn't overplayed *Lady Madonna - really tired of this...like Let Me Roll it, he plays it at every show. Don't consider it a signature song that he has to play *Eleanor Rigby - Signature song that he has to play *I Wanna Be Your Man - Don't get me started; as someone else said a 3rd tier Beatles song at best. Why not Penny Lane that is obviously on a different planet songwise. *Mr. Kite - a decent addition from a few years ago but if you're going to play the Sgt. Pepper's anniversary theme, why not another song from the album that you've never played...When I'm 64. I personally like Lovely Rita better than Mr. Kite *Something - great tribute song to George so I totally understand it remaining. Paul and band do a nice job to boot *Ob La Di - a crowd pleaser so while i'm tired of it, I understand. Also fits in the sequence of the songs after it *Back in the USSR - again, another crowd pleaser. I'm tired of it but I understand why it remains. *Let It Be - signature song that he has to do...no problem *Hey Jude - signature song that he has to do...no problem *Yesterday - signature song that he has to do *Sgt. Peppers - as I said, it would be an ideal setlist opener for the anniversary *Birthday -- Don't get me started. Paul has played this often and it is a 2nd tier Paul song at best. So many other better options in my opinion. *Golden Slumbers etc. - Another signature song and an ideal closer so I totally understand. I understand why Paul has to do a Beatles' heavy show. As I look at his choices, it just seems to me that it could be so much better. I Wanna Be Your Man and Birthday are horrible choices when he has so many better Beatle songs that haven't been overplayed and in some cases..never been performed. How about Martha My Dear, When I'me 64, Rocky Raccoon or an acoustic version of O'Darling. I'm not naive enough to think that I (or others here) choosing not to attend his 2017 Shows will hurt Paul. He is going to basically sell out everywhere. I just think he shortchanges himself with an inferior Setlist for the real fans. As others have said, over the last few years he is just coasting and resting on his laurels. I only wish we had the old Paul back from 1976 where he defiantly told the press..."you go see the show (Wings over America) and you tell me if it is not a good show". He played what he wanted to play even though the press and the fans were crying for more Beatle songs.

Overall, a pretty fair assessment. It doesn't stop me from going, but a fair assessment. Although, I would not call "Letting Go" overplayed. He played it in 2010 and 2016, and it wasn't even in consistently through 2016. On the other hand, I find "And I Love Her" to be incredibly overplayed. It has been at least in a rotational placement since the Good Evening Europe Tour in 2009. Of the twelve shows I've attended, I have heard it NINE times...

I Wanna Be Your Man seems like such an odd choice. Not a great song, IMO. With all the other possibilities he could have chose, this one choice has me scratching my head.

Does he talk about how they originally wrote it for the Stones and gave it to them to record first? (During the concert I mean) Maybe that's why he's doing it. Either that or as a tribute to Ringo. :

He did it at Desert Trip because of the Stones connection...maybe he just liked playing it and kept it for these Japanese dates? I really hope it is gone for the US leg...

what is the reason for such an long span? Is it a kind of laziness? Abe told during the documentation "something new" that the band rehearsed the complete NEW Album. Should this is true. I don't understand that there wasn't at least a special promo concert (like Kisses on the button). 2013 McCartney should be very familiar with the songs. Unfortunately nothing happens than live performances of the 4 the well known NEW songs... And what happend with "newman" and the live debut rumor for the song appreciate?

I think Paul is meticulous beyond our realization when it comes to these things. I think he is surprisingly and unjustly insecure when it comes to his post-Beatle music. He knows that his greatest commercial and critical success of the past thirty years has been bringing the Beatles' legacy to life, and he knows exactly how to do it night over night. I don't think he is lazy at all, far from it. I think he's frightened of rejection...which would be very strange if it is true. As far as the new album, I'm imagine that when Paul is making the record at this stage in the game, he is thinking about what tracks will deliver live and which ones won't and probably finds himself writing songs that would all fit on stage somehow, so they probably rehearse the whole record and "trim the fat". Since they do bother to rehearse it all, I wish they would rotate the new songs for those of us that go multiple times. About 70% of the venue doesn't care about hearing "Queenie Eye"...why not rotate it with other new songs that work live every night?

Agree completely with you all. Queenie Eye to me is not one of the better songs on NEW! Would rather hear I Can Bet, Appreciate or even New!!

Honestly, if he brought Paperback Writer back, it would render the other thirty-plus songs irrelevant. That's my favorite song of all time. He played it at all four of his concerts that I attended, and I was devastated to see that it has disappeared from the set. I know I'm not in the prevailing opinion on that, but if he were to play it on July 10th in Tampa (my first time seeing him since getting married, or even being in a relationship for that matter), it would be absolutely spectacular. Just sayin'.

WE all have those songs! Just another problem when discussing all this setlist mumbo! Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it came back in Tampa. I've heard it way too many times, but my aunt would go bananas to hear it since it wasn't played last summer when she went for her first time.
