So do you think we'll get new songs in the setlist for this tour (excluding a song or two from Egypt Station)? Or he'll continue the play the same songs he played on the One On One Tour?
No more than 5 or 6 songs. He's convenced that people goes x the one Beatles songs.

Cue all memories of "minty fresh".......this is the time. WIth a name like "Freshen Up"...if he doesn't change it now, he truly never, ever will. I'm talking a solid 60% of the show...and that doesn't mean cutting staples...just "freshening". The sequencing can play a big part in that too.
You'd need God himself to intervene and even then 60% would be asking a lot.
We are looking forward to freshening up our show and playing some of our songs from the new album alongside those songs we know you like to hear.
Exactly what I said upthread.
Just who are the "you" they are referring to?

I'm thrilled for the Canadian folks from those areas who have never seen Paul or only once or twice their entire lives.
As far as the new tour name "Freshen Up" and its meaning....
I love "WixRocks" optimism (I hope he's right!) but I don't see it at all. I'm looking at Paul's quote that is highlighted by Puppywhimpers directly above. I see Paul playing 3 or 4 songs from Egypt Station (that alone covers a loose definition of "Freshen Up") and then maybe throwing in a few Beatle songs that he didn't play on the "One on One" Tour. He could play Beatle songs like Penny Lane, Two of Us, For No One etc that he has played in his shows before "One on One". And he might even throw a few well known Solo/Wings songs that he used to play (My Love, Listen to What the Man Said, Let 'em In etc.) to cover himself with the new tour name.
I don't see him doing Solo/Wings songs that he has never done before (or maybe just once). At 76, that would take way too much work and I don't blame him. Unfortunately (unless I'm reallly surprised), his shows from the 2000's on up have never given "harder core fans" the kind of career spanning coverage that we would like. I would be shocked if Paul would "really Freshen Up' his setlist and give us songs never done before from albums like Memory Almost Full, Chaos & Creation, Flaming Pie, My Brave Face, Tug of War etc etc.
But for fans who have never seen him or maybe just a couple of times, it is one heck of a Show.

Guys, there's no point in speculating in a big overhaul in setlist. It's not gonna happen, I remember fans doing this with One on One & it was hardly different. But I thought that when I saw him in 2015 compared to the 2011 show. There was a decent change of Beatles & Wings songs, but he pulled out nothing exciting for One on One.

Sadly you are right BJ. Three to Four songs off the new album will be played which is a good thing but not enough IMO. We already know two of the songs he will play off the new album so that will not be much of a surprise. I think there will be different opening song, it is just a matter of which Beatle tune it will be. Finally, I can see the ads for this tour now with the claim the setlist will span over 50 years of his music. Technically true (lol) but it will not mention that 90% of the show will be before 1982.

Exactly. He may shuffle it up a bit but he is not going to really surprise us with say 4-5 songs from his solo albums that have never been done live. Heck it would be cool if he did "My Brave Face" again, last time it was done was almost 30 years ago !!!

I kind of like the name. To me "Freshen Up" means polish up... make everything look sparkling and shiny again...
Webster's Dictionary definites it as "make (something) newer, cleaner, or more attractive."
Just one minor criticism though... I think a better photo could have been chosen for the advertising poster, just my opinion... Paul is still very good looking and there's so many great photos taken of him looking cool while he's in concert. Don't think that is the best or most flattering photo that could have been chosen... some of you may disagree, but just my opinion. And having it in color using the same colors used for the Egypt Station" album cover might have been a better choice too. Perhaps that's just preliminary advertising and the official poster hasn't been released yet. (Edited to add: Below is poster I'm referring to, on Ticketmaster site)
Edited to add: I think the new tour title suggests that the setlist will be refreshed as well.. not an entirely new setlist, but with quite a few songs added or removed. Whatever he chooses to sing is fine with me though.
I agree, not the best photo to use. I really wonder about his management team at times - lol.

I bet he doesn't change many songs...except for the new ones & maybe a couple others.
They said
"We are looking forward to freshening up our show and playing some of our songs from the new album alongside those songs we know you like to hear."
That says it all in a nutshell, same basic show with exception of songs off the new album. I think we all get he has to play the hits but as I have said many times before, play the 25 Beatle/Wings hit songs for all the first timers. Just give people like me a reason to attend again by really mixing up the remaining 10-12 songs by playing stuff from his solo albums never or rarely played live.

I think that a tour name that played off the new album would have been better. The train theme fits with touring.
Some like “Next Stop”
Why not call the tour the name of your new album which helps you market the album, shake my head at his management team. Save the different type of tour names for when you don't have new album to promote .

I’m guessing we need to take the “freshen” at face value....
a limited run of shows before they launch “Egypt Station” tour

Yeah, maybe it's the "Driving to the Station" tour... lol

First off, I probably have a different definition of "Freshen Up" than others. If he can throw in tunes that haven't seen the stage in over five years or so...I consider that freshening. The break down should be something akin to this...
15-20 Core Songs that have been held the show together since return to touring in 2009. (i.e. "Hey Jude" "Yesterday" etc.)
10-15 Rotational Songs brought back that haven't been seen in awhile (i.e. "Two of Us" "The Night Before" etc.)
5-10 Never Before Played Old Songs on the Solo Stage (i.e. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" "Silly Love Songs" etc.)
2-5 New songs off of "Egypt Station" (i.e. "Come on To Me" "I Don't Know" etc.)
It's obvious that the effort has diminished with each tour. The transition from Summer Live '09 to Up and Coming Tour was noteworthy, moving to the On The Run tour packed some powerful punches, transitioning to Out There Tour was great for hardcore Beatle fans, but transitioning to the One on One tour left a little to be desired in variety all across the board for all returning fans.
Time will tell. I can't possibly attend any of these shows as I begin my first year as a music educator, but I will certainly be on here the evening of teh 17th with popcorn ready for another setlist watch to launch a new tour. No matter how many changes are or are not there, we never know how long we have to say things like that.
-
Additionally, I don't anticipate he will focus the tour around the album. I may be wrong, but the only time an album influenced the name and theme of the tour would be the string of "Driving..." tours associated with the Driving Rain album in the early 2000's. Otherwise, the tour name has always stood on it's own from the record being promoted.

One thing I would like to see is that they get rid of the riser that Paul performed 'Blackbird' and 'Here Today' on during the Out There and One On One tours.
Whilst it looks cool, it creates a big gap between the main stage / band and the audience during the rest of the show which I think is a shame.
At the very least they could incorporate it into the main stage to avoid the gap, but to be honest after using it for two tours that span five years, perhaps it's time to ditch it completely.

That leads to an interesting question: Who is he promoting this tour to?
The guests he caters to (1st Timers that ARE SEEING A BEATLE!!! Crowd) have no idea what he usually plays, so a “Freshened Up” tour name has to meaning to them.
It really does seem the name is a direct message to his hardcore fans, but the problem is that no one really believes he will Freshen Up. But why market to us without intention of delivering?

From your lips to Paul’s ears!! I hate that damn thing! 🤬
