EGYPT STATION

Hey All! Listened to Egypt Station at midnight and again at 5am. First impressions are high! The sound of the lp is outstanding; every track just jumps into the speakers. The standouts so far are 'Come On To Me', 'Dominoes', 'Caesar Rock' (Rock Show meets Beware My Love), 'Hunt You Down', and yes, 'Fuh You'. Not a huge fan of 'Back To Brazil', 'Hand in Hand', and yes, 'Confidante'. Too slow, kind of meandering. Yes, I wanna' Rock! Really like 'Happy With You'. Wish the horn section was utilized a bit more; the horns really make 'Come On To Me', 'Hunt You Down', and 'Despite Repeated Warnings' blast off!
Looking forward to many reviews on this site. Enjoy Egypt Station. Yes, it is a really solid addition to McCartney's legacy.

Got such a great surprise at 7am this morning. I won't be able to get to Target until this afternoon but I have much to do so I took my shower a little earlier. I put on my Spotify (a great gift from my fiance who is much more techy than me) and I thought I was going to be hearing the same playlist (Paul Solo) that I've been hearing for the last couple of weeks.
Holy, moly or whatever they say. Right away as my Hypergear speaker began playing the songs, they were tracks I had never heard before. It only took me 2 seconds to realize I was hearing the brand new Egypt Station songs.
The first two songs I heard were "Happy With You" and "Confidante" and I really liked them especially on a first listen. Both were very Beatlesque and sounded very "Rubber Soulish" to my ears. Then again they had a little bit of a feel of a couple of Paul's great solo songs like Put It There or Footprints. They were guitar based with great Macca melodies. For people who were concerned that Paul was trying to be too hip with a song like "Fuh You" don't worry. From what I heard so far, you are going to get your old school McCartney with Egypt Station.
I also heard "People Want Peace" and "Dominoes" and again you have the traditional Paul that you're used to. Again, both sounded very good especially for a 1st listen (I actually had heard Dominoes on Sirius yesterday). All the songs sounded distinctive and I love Greg Kurstin's production. The music sounds wonderful.
The last song I heard this morning was "Back in Brazil" another one I heard for the first time on Sirius just yesterday. I have to say that it sounded much better this 2nd time. I didn't like it as much on first impression as the other new ones above but again I love the music and Greg's production. Back in Brazil of course has that Latin feel.
To top it off, the Spotify channel then went into "I Don't Know" and "Come On To Me". They both sounded great. The latter had me dancing in the shower (and I can't dance).
All in all, I'm really encouraged after hearing about half the album. Already I can see that Egypt Station is going to have a lot of very good tracks.
Can't wait till this afternoon and I can get ES at Target (with the 2 extra tracks...Yes!).

Same here! LOVED Confidante, Hand in Hand, Dominoes, Who Cares, Come on To Me, I Don't Know, Happy with You, Fuh (For) You, lol, all the songs you mentioned, plus more! This music came from the heart, it's beautiful, catchy, edgy, captivating, haunting... so many wonderful aspects all rolled into one! Such beautiful sounds from a beautiful creative mind! Well done. Bravo, Macca! Love it

Soooo Happy with Paul and Egypt Station !!!
After he dropped Come on to me and Fuh you my expectations were low.
Now I‘m listening nonstop to classic Mccartney : Happy with you, Confidante, Who cares, Dominoes, Do it now, Hunt you down/etc.
The only weak tracks apart from the two mentioned above - which RS calls „silly sex songs“ - are Caesar Rock and People want peace IMO.
„Happy with you“ is THE Macca classic on the album for me.

Hello Again! What a great day to be a McCartney fanatic. This album is sensational. AND, the two bonus tracks, "Get Started" and "Nothing For Free" are very cool. Huge Wing vibe from these two tunes. IMO should have replaced "Back In Brazil" and "Hand in Hand". Oh well, let me turn the volume up to '11' and jam to 'Caesar Rock' again!!

Always interesting hearing everyone's first impressions. I'm three listens in now, and I really like Despite Repeated Warnings and I Don't Know. The rest of it, particularly lyrically, is pretty uninspiring. Some fun sounds and melodies, but I think overall this ties with Driving Rain for the weakest of his 97-present output.

Does anyone know how we can check the status of our PM.com store order? I ordered the Deluxe Colored Vinyl LP, and then created an account much later (so it's not in my "Orders" section of my account now--my order for Spotify green vinyl is though).
I have the order number but can't seem to find anywhere to check its status and see if it's shipped yet (and get a tracking number if it has)
It's hard to find -- looked 3 times before I found it. But if you hover over the Store tab, a drop-down menu with several choices appears. Click on Merchandise Store. Go to that page, scroll down to the bottom and look for "Contact Us" under "Customer Service." It's ridiculously hard to find. In any case... That page has a "Where is my order?" button that should let you check the status with the order number and zip or postal code. But when I did it, it didn't work!!!! Next to it there's a series of fields where you can put in your name, email, etc. and contact them, and that appeared to work. Good luck.
Bruce,
Thank you so much for the tip! I appreciate it. When I did the Order Status thing it also didn't work for me, which is a shame, but I did fill out the contact form and sent that off.
Cheers, my fellow Macca fan!

Indeed. Hearing these tracks on a stereo system versus the youtube videos is night and day. Admittedly what I heard on youtube left me underwhelmed but that is not the case now. I bought my CD copy at Target first thing this morning, and should get my vinyl version delivered later today.
I only wish Paul had listed who was playing what on each track.

Okay, have just listened to the new album for the first time and my initial thoughts are that the four stars reviews its been receiving are probably about right. Its not another Band On The Run that's for sure so any such comparisons are totally redundant.
But in comparison with (relatively) recent albums its not as good as Chaos, it's probably not quite as good as New but it's a whole lot better than MAF, which a lot of fans like anyway. So I would say that ES is a good to very good album. Lots of high points with Who Cares, Confidante, Do It Now and Hand In Hand all standout tracks. I also like Naked.
I Don't Know and Come On To Me sound better on the album rather than in isolation. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is Despite Repeated Warnings which I thought might build into a dramatic piece (like Let's Eat Grandmas 'Donnie Darko' track which I've been playing a lot of recently) ... unfortunately Paul's song, while quite pleasant, really doesn't do much or go anywhere and just sounds like two songs stitched together. Perhaps I was expecting another 'Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five' but its nothing like that.
But this is just my initial thoughts after one play. I'm sure mty thoughts will change with subsequent plays but as of now, Egypt Station receives a 7/10 from me.

This is definitley an album (or digital music) to listen to with the headphones on. Paul sounds great and the instrumentation and layers of sound is out of this world. Will keep listening before reviewing. Early favorites are "Who Cares" and "Happy with You."
I cannot believe that I am listening to a new Paul album in 2018. Album release days for Paul have been a big deal for me for 32 years nows (Press to Play is the first album that I bought on release day).

Listened to whole album- just once so far. There isn’t a bad song in the album. First standout is Who Cares.. the guitar is stuck in my head. Despite Repeated Warnings (I’m very political) may be the next standout.
I do like the bonus tracks as well.

If he does not play "Who Cares" on this tour, I give up - lol.

I am so mad my pre-ordered copy from Target won’t be delivered until tomorrow! 🤬

I went into my local Target & got one. No display though...those times are gone.

I won’t go into detail as I’m not a reviewer and after all we all have (slightly lol) different views. I just wanted to post that the album will be what you need.
You won’t be disappointed. It’s not as easy as ‘New’ but it has more layers.
This is the first Macca music I’m listening to since my Beatle friend passed away. It’s weird listening to Paul’s music knowing he will never hear it. This man was much older than me and knew Paul in his school days, we used to go and see Macca together. Even though he was 30 years older than me, he was one of my best friends because we loved everything about this phenomenon of this music. I so miss him.
I’m a believer that music is the foundation of memories, what is my favourite track might not be yours, but we are Paul McCartney fans and I strongly believe we will all love this album. This album is forming memories of my friend, that’s how it will be embedded in me.

I took a gamble on the colored vinyl...I bought the "special vinyl edition" hoping it would be the colored vinyl...well it wasn't. I should've went with my gut and ordered it from the website. Anyways, my first impression after 1 listen through is positive...I like it better than "New" it sorta makes me consider Egypt Station the lovechild of "Driving Rain" and "Memory Almost Full" with "Chaos and Creation" being it's cousin...I'd like to know the personnel for this record...wonder if his touring band is on this one much? I pretty sure he's by himself on several of these tracks...

Hey folks -- long time since I posted here! Nice to see a few familiar names still here. I listened to the album today on Apple Music (several times) and I must say I'm impressed with a few of the tracks--not all of them, but the ones that are good are really good! The album opens and closes very strong. All the more upbeat tracks are very good. I'd say this album surpases New. I love I Don't Know (at 2:11 it definitely sounds like a Steely Dan influence--heard a Steely Dan influence again later in the album....wonder if it was intentional--anyone else comment on this?), Come On To You (has some bass moves that reminds me of his bass on parts of Abbey Road side two!! lyrics are not great on this one, but heard this tune out at a bar a couple times and it sounds great in that environment--really rocks), Who Cares, Back in Brazil, Ceasar Rock, second part of Despite Repeated Warnings, and Hunt You Down et al. People Want Peace I don't like but it has an unmistakable Give Peace a Chance riff. Opening Station and Station II definitely remind me of the intro to Sgt. Pepper! And on some tracks some cool backwards guitar pieces that harkens back to the Beatles. Overall a really nice piece of work--I hope it does well for him! Paul's still got it!!
Would be interested in any comments on my thoughts so far on this record.
