Set List critique

Can anyone put one or two of the Orlando reviews from last night's Concert. I saw a review from the Orlando Sentinel but couln't read it because the "paper" blocks it out. I am interested in an estimate of the crowd size and how Paul sounded. I saw the setlist and it was the one that didn't contain "Women and Wives". It still contained "let 'm in", "new" and "I've Just Seen a Face".
Again, just blows my mind...nothing from McCartney 3 and he's still doing "Come On to Me" and "Fuh You".
Thanks
The place looked completely sold out. Like I said, normally it fits 41,000, so add how many seats were on the field - there were probably more than 45,000 people there.
As far as professional reviews go, I stopped reading them years ago. And most fan reviews are ridiculous - just read this one guy talking about how he heard Paul tell the Blackbird/civil rights story and he'd never heard that! I asked him if he hadn't seen a Paul McCartney concert in the last 20 years as he tells that story every tour! Most fans just gush over him and how great he was etc. etc. The only really truthful, realistic reviews will be in Beatlefan magazine. They will call Paul out, I bet, for doing Fuh You and Come On To Me. Will let you know what they say in the next issue.

I will look forward to your report. Used to get Beatlefan but then in the years after anthology they got had-pressed to find articles so I cancelled. Leaving for the mountains soon and will slowly make our way to Knoxville for the Tuesday night show. Maybe the problem lies with us--seen him too many times and he has found a set list he loves and is loath to change it. Anyway, on to Knoxville, for better or worse.

Have a great time and show in Knoxville TN John. While a few of us aren't thrilled with the Setlist, it will be a thrilling time for you. Just being around many Beatle and Paul fans makes it exciting in itself. If I were there, I would be thrilled to hear many of the songs. Hope he does "I've Just Seen a Face" (one of my favorites from Rubber Soul) for you. For me,it still would be nice to hear "My Valentine" for Nancy. I love Rusty's guitar solo in the middle and Paul still sings it quite well. Finally, I hope he does "Women and Wives"for you. Still a very good song and Paul sings it well. Finally some of the signature songs never go out of style. I'm sure it will be thriiling to hear classics like Blackbird, Here Today, Let It Be, I've Got a Feeling with John, and a couple of Abbey Road Songs he has rarely done like "You Never Give Me Your Money" and "She Came into the Bathroom Window. Even though someone like me wanted to hear newer songs like "Seize the Day", "Find My Way", "Slidin", "I Don't Know", "Dominoes" etc, it will still be a great show. Fantasitic songs like Getting Better, Got to Get You Into My Love with those horns, Get Back and BOTR always sound great.
Have a great time and can't wait to get your report on Maccaborard.

Hey Nancy...thanks as always for your insight. It did look like Paul had a full house in Orlando a tremendous achievment in my estimation.
I still like to read the reviews especially from "music critics" like Rob Sheffield (from Rollingstone) that I really respect. I always remember Rob's Rollingstone Review on Egypt Station. Rob really liked that album as a whole. He loved, loved "Dominoes" and "I Don't Know" which I do too. Two of Paul's Best ever (Beatles or Solo) imo. Rob like a few other Music Critics didn't like "Fuh You". It's not just the wrong title, the rest of the lyrics are pretty lame too. As John Lennon always said..."Paul could write very good lyrics when he put his mind to it". As I said to Yankeefan, I'm over it now. Glad that Paul is having a good and successful tour but as a hard core Solo fan, I'm sure glad I didn't pay that kind of money for any of these Got Back Shows. I don't know if you read my post as for the reasons I think that Paul didn't shake up the Setlist this time. I do repect that Macca continues to give the customers their money's worth but to do all kinds of rehearsing for an 80 year old is just too much work. For all that Paul has given to the fans over the years. he deserves as much down time with Nancy as possible. Just my opinion.

Most professional reviews are done by fanboys/fangirls who are for the most part thrilled to be at show of a Beatle icon. If they were a real critic and not a fan, they would mention while his show is advertised spanning his entire career, there are only a handful of songs after 1980. They would also mention that his voice is much weaker on some songs and has aged. If these critics had ever seen Paul or done any research about his concerts, the "fireworks" would not "amaze" them during "Live And Let Die". Very few mention his excellent band musically and how they help carry Paul vocally. Also, these same "critics" don't seem to know he has told that same "Blackbird" for about 20 years -lol.
Finally, it is kind of funny. I have read reviews of other artists who have toured recently and it is refreshing to read the reviews when the "critics" are not in awe of the artist. I saw Bon Jovi with my wife and daughters awhile ago and the critics have blasted him about his vocals. While I thought he was not as good as he used to me vocally, John Bon Jovi was not as bad as some of the critics were writing. The recent Billy Joel show here in Charlotte the local "critics" praised his show mentioning he still sounds good vocally but that his set list becomes stale because he has not created new music since the 1990's.

Yankeefan...good points.
I guess you're getting ready for your Alaska vacation. We're leaving out of Newark NJ for Vancouver tomorrow.
Have a great trip. Let me know how the Dogsled excursion goes. We're thinking about doing this when we go to Alaska in September.

Thoughts from a person on another board:
When I was at the Hard Rock show on Wednesday, I thought it sounded okay in the moment. The next day, when I played it back, my opinion stayed the same. The playback still sounded good (though, I'm grading on a 79 year old curve!)
Having sampled clips of various 2022 shows, my show probably had one of the better vocals. Not quite as good as the two Oaklands, but far superior than the first few shows (Spokane/Seattle)....
On the other hand, I listened to a few clips from Orlando, and he sounded pretty wobbly again. So I guess, it's a crap shoot to what the quality of his voice will be that given night.

Hello everyone,
Having seen the setlists of the tour so far, we can say that this is probably it. Not much changes from concert to concert. I do think that Glastonbury is likely to have a different setlist; it is a festival with a special occasion after all... Paul has said that he doesn't know what they will do exactly, but they have some tricks up their sleeve. In the past we also saw him perform some alternative setlist on special occasions. What do you think? Is it likely that we will get the much desired changes in the setlist for Glasto?
Thanks!

You should have stuck with Beatlefan - it's great! I used to live relatively near where it is published (Decatur, GA) and I got to meet the publisher and a lot of the people involved with it at a 40th birthday party they had for Paul in 1982. I have every issue since the one right before John was killed.
Let us know how Knoxville show is and if he changes anything!

Wait, so fans that say they had a great time at the concert and that they thought he was great aren't being truthful or realistic? I had a wonderful time at both concerts I went to and I did think he was great and the concert was great, so I'm not telling the truth? Heaven forbid some people just like things for what they are and don't want to bother with nitpicking every little thing to death. Doesn't mean they aren't telling the truth or being realistic.

I didn't say anything about "having a great time!" I said that people gush and say how great HE was etc. Listen, I saw Paul last in May 2019 with my BFF who is a huge Paul/Beatles fan too. We drove from Atlanta to Greenville, SC for the concert. We had a great time! But if I was reviewing it, I would say his voice was weak, especially on certain songs. That is called being truthful & realistic. I decided then that I probably would not see him again and pay the high prices. (had a $750 Gold VIP ticket in 2019, got Hot Sound Packages in 2013, 2014 & 2017 for $1500-$1600) As soon as the setlists were revealed, I knew I'd made the right decision.
If you choose to spend outrageous sums to go see him and enjoy it and have a fantastic time, more power to you! But unless you are mostly deaf you can't say his voice sounds "great." Unless you just want to live in a fantasy world. I'm not stopping you. I just prefer to look at the "situation" realistically.

Nobody is living in this fantasy world. We all know his voice isn't what it used to be and we aren't mostly deaf. Yes we have the right to spend the money to see him just as you and others have the right to choose to not go and see him. Yes Paul was great for how his voice is now at the shows I was at. Because I'm saying that it doesn't mean I live in a fantasy world, it means I'm going into it knowing his voice is not what it was and expecting certain songs to be weaker than others. We get that you and others on this board don't like his set list, his voice etc but it just goes on and on and on with the complaining. Yes, again you all have the right to speak your mind but good grief, it's the same thing after every city Paul plays.

Sorry. I was still wound up over that woman on FB. I am just tired of all the people on FB who gush over how great he sounds. Those are the ones living in a fantasy world.
I shouldn't have made it personal to you. There really are people that don't seem to realize how much his voice has weakened. It's just sad to me since even in 2002 he sounded sublime!I wouldn't even be commenting on this thread (and I probably shouldn't any more) if it wasn't for B J's numerous posts. I keep telling him he's beating a dead horse...
Again...apologies. ️️

Thank you Nancy, and I apologize as well for sounding so defensive.

I just talked to someone yesterday on FB who said that in Orlando, all the newspaper accounts were saying that the crowd size was 62,000!!! 🤯

Let me add my voice to the discussion...a fan since the late 60s. I remember buying McCartney after it cameout and Maybe I'm Amazed remains my fave. Yeah, his voice isn't what it used to be but neither am I.
Knoxville marked my 18th concert since first seeing him at Madison Square on December 11, 1989. Knoxville was a great show despite McCartney III being MIA. After missing the Greenville 2019 show giving our tickets to our daughter-in-law's parents, I am happy to have recovered from a near-death hospital visit and thankful to be alive, thankful he is alive and wants to hit the road so let's all enjoy the Rock Show!!!!
