Egypt Station to me has proven that Paul can always make it up there in the charts. He worked so hard to get there. Egypt Station is a wonderful album. Fuh You has such a nice rhythm to it when he sings "I just wanna know how you feel". Im falling in love with his song Confidente because the sound of his voice is so gentle and soothing for me. Who Cares and come On To Me are my two favorite songs on the album. I also love Paul's art work on the cover of the album too. He has so much talent to share.
And you know really Paul only just wants us all to enjoy his music thats why he still makes music. I always enjoy his music because it helps me to relax after a hard day's work. I can proudly say I have been a fan of Paul's for 22 years now even though I am only a second generation fan but still Paul's music will continue to be played generation after generation.
I'm still hoping I can feel that way. Love the instrumentation on the song and I'm starting to not hear his frail vocal jump out at me the way it initially did. Not sure I can get to describing Paul's voice as "so gentle and soothing," (well, it is here and there) on it, but I wince less and less with each new listen, so......... here's hoping!
I feel the same way about Confidante. Love the music and I've gotten use to his vocal. I'm a perfectionist and it is the only song that isn't close to perfect to my ears. Certainly doesn't ruin the album for me as I said in my review a while back.
I got the Target edltion and I absolutely love the Bonus Song "Get Started". Now talk about a great vocal.

I am pretty much so used to his vocals so I don't even hear anything frail about his voice, that has never bothered me at all. But his guitar playing in this song is so pretty it could make me cry happy tears. I swear his singing and guitar playing just puts me into a special kind of trance and I forget about everything else because Im so focused on hearing Paul sing and play guitar. So Confidante is now one of my favorite songs on this album. In order how I love my favorite songs on Egypt Station: 1. Who Cares 2. Come On To Me 3. Confidante 4. Fuh You 5. Happy With You

The one song that continues to amaze me on Egypt Station is "Dominoes". What a haunting, slightly rocking masterpiece. The song reminds me so much of The Beatles, Wings, and solo career in the span of five minutes. And the last minute and a half, with so many sounds exploding from the speakers is at times messy, eerie, exciting, and beautiful. I simply can't stop playing this song. Help Me!!
-
Paul's songs will do that to you! His songs do that to me all the time! so there are at least 3 songs on each of all of Paul's latest albums that I keep playing over and over non stop because they sound so darn good!
And Im kinda feeling guilty as sin because I have only been listening to Paul's solo albums lately. I haven't touched my Beatles CDs. Egypt Station has me occupied right now the most along with Driving Rain, Chaos and Crearion in the Backyard, Memory Almost Full, and New. Those albums along with Egypt Station I have been playing over and over again. I can't help it. Im so attached to Paul's music!

Dominoes had me at 'hello'. It was clearly the most captivating song on the album for me on first listenings. A melodious cracker.
I also love Who Cares. Despite Repeated Warnings has got better and better.
Do It Now is the 'grower'. Beautiful harmonies. The second half of that song, in particular.
I Don't Know was underwhelming for me when released as the 'single', but I now really, really like it. Although, I rue the missed opportunity for that to have been done with cleaner vocals. That would have elevated it from 'really, really like' to 'love'.
And Fuh You is just fine. I wonder if it would've copped all the criticism if it was not so ambigious in its title lyric. It's a fun little pop song. And I cannot help but sing along with it.
As mentioned by others, the bridge to People Want Peace is sublime.
The only song I still cannot particularly grasp is Come on to Me.... it just doesn't do anything for me. No matter how many times I listen to it.
The rest of the songs all play their part in making this a wonderful album.

You've paid your money and you're enjoying it and,at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
Personally I think in 10 years time people will look back and judge it as just another 'average' Paul album, not bad by other peoples standards but nothing like what he's capable of producing.
Disagree with your point because it has been received very well by the critics and no matter what else is said it was #1 album in the US. I fully expect it will gather Grammy nominations and who knows he may actually win. Correct me if I am wrong but I have read it a few times that people have said this album reminds them a bit of RAM which most McCartney fans love. Maybe the album will not age well, we will see. I think BOTR will always be the top non-Beatle album in people's eyes but I have a feeling Egypt Station will probably be a top 5 McCartney solo album for most McCartney fans.

I haven't even heard "Egypt Station" on a good stereo, yet, just online; and it still knocks me out! It's amazing !

Susy, Paul hs stated that Confidante is about one of his old guitars.
In a way, that sounds almost as perplexing as his assertion "Got To Get You Into My Life" is about marijuana. I'll read the lyrics again, though, and see if it makes more sense to me this time. I don't want to say he's lying about that, that he's a liar ! It just seems a bit odd "falling out of love" with a guitar...not if you're a musician, probably, I guess. (?) You used to like playing a certain instrument, but then it stopped sounding the same, or something.

Confidante makes perfect sense being about his old guitar. "My underneath the staircase friend" -- I seriously doubt that anyone lived under the McCartney family's staircase, but he probably did keep his guitar there. "I played with you throughout the day and told you every secret thought" -- if you've ever known a musician, this makes total sense. That said, Paul has a way of keeping his lyrics vague enough that they can be open to lots of interpretations and apply to many situations, and connecting Confidante to human relationships is entirely reasonable, even if it wasn't Paul's original inspiration.
In any case, I love this song, even though Paul's voice sounds pretty wrecked on it. For a song about long-ago memories, that actually works, though I do wince a little still and wish I could have heard him sing this even 15 years ago. The second half of the instrumental break -- where a keyboard comes in and harmonizes with the guitars -- is to me one of those shivers-up-the-spine moments equal to the second time the brass comes in in "Wanderlust." Exquisite

The lyrics are metaphors.

Falling out of love with guitar is not strange at all, have done it myself and I don't have as many guitars as somebody like McCartney- lol. Sometimes you just don't like the way it sounds anymore or the feel of it when you play it. It is real easy to get fickle with guitars especially when money is no object - ha ha. Then add in the different types of guitar you may have and you may just want to play bass for awhile and then you get tired of it and enjoy playing your acoustic for example.

That is THE one album of Paul's I didn't/don't care for.....maybe I better go back to it and relisten. At the time, I thought, cut one was good....then it was all downhill. And I didn't like the album cover at all!! I can't state that strongly enough!!! That may have influenced me as well on the entire album. I notice that "Press To Play" gets a fair amount of negative comments. I always quite liked it. "Pretty Little Head" was out there, different and unique for Paul!! Nice ballads and rockers on the album; I even loved "Press," the song. So...... Actually, however, I didn't like that album cover either. That Paul/Linda in Bogart/Bacall 1940's poses didn't work for me. It, too, needed a better album cover; one that had some connection to the material.

Sheesh I can understand now why Paul says that people take music so seriously and even personal and have to be careful how one writes lyrics and stuff. I know I would never make it as a musician I would get rotten tomatoes thrown at me because I have no musical talent at all. All the more reason why I rely on Paul for music I can understand why he writes lyrics the way he does. Confidante is such a lovely song to me. Paul is simply expressing his feeling through his songs

Has Egypt Station reached Platinum sales yet? It's a big seller for Paul.

As a single, I didn't care for "I Don't Know" ..for the reason you mention....vocal...On the album, however, it seems to work, or at least sound much better; it belongs. I believe he should have just named "Fuh You" "For You." Sing it exactly the same way he does, just title it differently. Would have worked better....for me. As a single, I really did not care for "Come On To Me." It was so repetitious that it drove me up the wall. Somehow on the album I don't notice that, and it seems to fit and becomes a stomper when one is needed. Maybe it's all in the setting. I just bloody wish....and I can't seem to get past it....is that he waited to do the vocal on "Confidante" when his voice was up to it.... stronger...such as it is on "Happy With You." I want SO much to love that song...and I do like it alot, the guitar playing/piano is sublime....everything is great except the vocal!!!!

Unfortunately not anywhere near. It dropped to 152( I believe) on Billboard. Hopefully it’ll go gold during the second leg of US shows next year. By the way ES is proving staying power on the German Charts : 1 - 4 - 11 - 15 - 16. Way smaller market than the US but bigger than UK. And still no German live dates....

Currently #92 in the UK after just 5 weeks on the chart.

It's not throwing tomatoes when one knows Paul is capable of so much better...yes, I mean "Confidante." It rankles when someone of his enormous talent and ability settles for so much less than he is capable of...lovely expression of feelings, word wise, just not sung well. He seems to take his music seriously....why else do it and actively promote it?...so we have to take it seriously too or why else even bother with it??

Dominoes is easily my favorite on the album. Love Paul's voice on the verses. Instantly catchy and a message song.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I think Egypt Station is far better than Band on the Run. It has more depth, more texture, more heart. Band on the Run is a terrific piece of pop craftsmanship, but's always been just a shade too slick for my taste. Egypt Station is the real deal.
