Hey Nancy. I understand totally about your frustration. In my father's last couple of years, he had dimentia real bad. I brought my Dad down from New Jersey to Florida where his Sister lived. I wanted to retire anyway and my Father could no longer take the winters up North so we moved. Anyway, the first couple of years it was very frustrating. We would drive at the end of the year from New Jersey to Florida (a long 2 Day drive). After a couple of days he would go into his sister's house (only 3 houses down from our house) and tell my aunt (his sister) that he was leaving to go home because he wanted to go to my Mom's grave site in NJ. One year he left in our car and preceded to get lost. Fortunately for me, he only got to the next town. Talk about being frustrating. It was all about his dimentia. He couldn't understand that he wanted to go back home and that it was already Winter which is why we moved in the first place. My Father lived to 90 and in retrospect, it was good
we moved. On the whole he had a good few years down in Florida. Now when I look back I should have had more patience with him. The dimentia he had did cause a few headaches for me but still l should of had more patience. My Daughter reminds me how good he was (and my Mother) were to her. My Mom and Father were not only great parents but great grandparents too. These days I miss both of them so much. How lucky my sister and I were. I realize that especially when I hear stories from friends about their parents. We were so lucky!I brought my dad down from Ohio in June 2013 to Assisted Living because he had broken his hip, still needed vsome rehab and needed someone to give him all of his many pills (he’d never been on a jet plane before and he was 87! His mind was sharp as a tack until the end (Jan. 6, 2016 at just shy of 90) His body just gave out with COPD, mitral valve regurgitation and kidney failure. My mom is 92 and takes meds for high B/P and high cholesterol, but other than being pre-diabetic, she is physically okay, it’s just the dementia that got so bad over the last year or so. It actually began with little bits of short-term memory loss in 2018. Rather than have to move her twice (once to Assisted Living & again to a nursing home which is next door to it) I’m trying to keep her where she is. They feed them 3 meals plus snacks, coffee, tea, ice cream, etc. between meals and do their housekeeping. She is still able to do her own laundry, but if need be, I could do that. They have an on-site company that gives her her 7:45am meds and tells her to go eat breakfast. She’s always up real early and can shower & dress herself. It costs $9/day but is cheaper than moving her to A.L. Besides the hassle plus renting a truck, the monthly cost would be $4130 as opposed to the $3365 she pays now. In about a year, her savings will run out and if I can get a letter from her PCP or neurologist, she could go to the nursing home and get on Medicaid. She would give the facility her Social Security and tiny pension each month and Medicaid would pay whatever they decide to pay. I would have to “just” pay the first month which right now is $8400!
Bound to increase in one year!
Oh, and she has to take pills 2 other times during the day and we finally got the battery powered pill dispenser (they sent a 2nd one) to work (rotate) properly! It’s been since Mar. 6th we’ve been pulling our hair out over this thing. I still call her at 12:10pm to remind her to go eat lunch, at 5pm for her 5:05 pills and go to dinner and at 7:30pm for her evening pills. She goes to bed super early, like 8 or 8:30.
I guess I rambled on enough! I definitely need more patience too, but sadly it is not one if my virtues! It’s a constant struggle. -
@njr Streaming has taken over as the predominant music listening format. The Vinyl comeback continues to grow. But even with all the beautiful Deluxe Box Sets, like McCartney's Archive Collection, CD sales are disappearing. There are fewer and fewer CD outlets, and even Target has gotten rid of most new CD releases. Sadly but true, the shiny silver disc which all but destroyed the Vinyl business, is nearly at its end.
-
Speaking of the Archive Collection; when are we gonna see the last two Wings albums London Town and Back to the Egg reissued?!

And that pisses me off! 🤬

On CD? Probably never.

Just a reply to Victor and BeatlesfanRandy. If the CD format is actually over, what's the best new course for Paul/MPL to follow for new material/album product?Just a thought of what Paul and his close advisers could do:
If they like the idea of an unreleased/rarity/B-Sides type album, could they sell the final tape (do they call it acetate?) to the highest bidder like an Amazon, Spotify or Pandora? That way the buyer could handle the Distribution.I'm not sure the CD format is actually Dead. Paul could give a "shorter term exclusive" to one of the giant retailers like Target. I say Target because I believe they have in general a higher demographic/consumer than Walmart. Even though both Target and Walmart might currently be phasing out CDs in general, either one could sell a Paul CD on a special Display/Promotion as a "New/Special Sale" item.
I say "Short Term Exclusive" to a Target or Walmart because it could give Paul/MPL the option of selling their CD to independent record stores/ other specialty shops like Starbucks etc. They also always could get "Sales" through " Direct channels like an Amazon.
If Paul doesn't have a new and full album ready till 2024, I still like the Unreleased/Rarity/ BSide idea because Paul has so many good songs in the pipeline that are generally unknown to McCartney and Beatle fans. Of course if Paul has a new song or two to add to the 22 Track CD that I listed onPage 10 here, that could be a huge plus to this type of idea for basically a new compilation product for 2023. If the new song had "Single" potential that would be great for Mr. McCartney.
Thanks as usual for your attention.

@b-j-conlee Well, if they discontinue CDs, I guess the only thing left is Amazon Music (I am a Prime Member so I hope Paul’s new music would be available on there), Spotify, Sirius XM and the like. Dammit, I still have a CD player in my 2016 car (I know many of the newer cars have eliminated it) and I want the physical product, just like I prefer a real book to Kindle (I do own a Kindle though)
What was that movie where they came across a DVD or CD and had to figure out how to play it? This of course took place way in the future. Some day my granddaughter won’t know what the heck a CD is, let alone a “45!” My twins were born in 1987, just as CDs were becoming popular. They did know growing up what a vinyl album was (I have loads of them, plus a nice turntable that still works - purchased in 1974!) -
@njr
I'm with you Nancy. My wife and I have 2 cars (a Ford Edge and a Toyota RAV4) and neither one has a CD Player. When you love an artist like I love Paul's music, the best place for me to hear it is in the car on a CD player especially on a longer type trip. The great thing about a CD, if you're tired of a particular track you can easily skip it. My previous car (a Ford Escape) had a CD Player.. I loved hearing Egypt Station when it was first released (except for 1 or 2 songs) and in my car was always my favorite place. -
@b-j-conlee I suppose there‘s some way to get a portable CD player and hook it up to your car on long trips. Will have to investigate.

If the car doesn't have a CD player it probably has a USB port. Just rip your CDs to a flash drive and plug it in. You can have an entire music collection at your fingertips.

Over here in the uk you don't have to change or remove your car cassette player. You just need a CD adapter in the SHAPE of a cassette tape. Not entirely sure how it works, I've never owned a car, but the cassette ( shaped) adapter slots into where a real cassette tape slots into, and you can play your cds in your car. I'm sure you could Google it or search on Amazon and something would come up.

@kㅤ Temporary Secretary is annoying, period. I hear nothing redeeming about it at all, or catchy. When I first played it I could not believe that the guy who wrote Eleanor Rigby was putting out such garbage. Yes, that's what I considered it to be. I never have intentionally listened to it again. Never. Never will. It's embarrassing. I do recall that a radio station played...."Bogey Music"?...I believe from that album. When it ended, the DJ....a female said, "Well, at least he's still cute." Point made. The album was considered drivel! He was cute on the album cover. That's about the only thing good anyone I was aware of could say about any of it. My mistake, however. Quit listening too soon. It took ages for me to realize "Waterfalls," "One of These Days," and "Summer's Day Song" were all on that album....and I love them. So, I stopped listening too soon. Just couldn't get....that Secretary thing out of my head!!!

I have turntable also which is very nice, and the sound is great. My wife got me one about 10 years ago and in addition to my older albums I did buy some new ones to play on it. I have about 100 blank CD's so I can still put music from another format on them. I have a CD player at home and one in my car which is a 2013 Toyota Matrix. My wife's 2021 Honda Civic does not have CD player.
I understand liking a physical book instead of having them on a Kindle. That being said, I thank God I don't have to find place to put over 100 books I have on my Kindle.

The top 2 McCartney songs that I absolutely hate are "Temporary Secretary" and "Bip Bop" -lol

Temp Sec is unlistenable tosh! Bib Bop is typical McCartney fun, same as Why Don't We Do It In The Road. Sometimes I think it's us that changes. Maybe if Macca did WDWDIITR now, we would consider it nonsense?

Unless the car was made in the ‘70s, it’s not going to have a cassette deck in it!
I used to have a 1974 Chevy Vega that had an 8-track player in it! -

I don’t even know how to do that. How many CDs would fit on a flash drive?

A 32GB flash drive should hold about 300 albums in mp3 format if my math is correct. I use Windows Media Player to rip CDs directly to the flash drive. You need to create a top folder called "Music" on the flash drive, then change the location the files are ripped to. It should appear as E:\Music. When I plug the flash into the car's USB port the album folders appear on the screen and then I just scroll through the album titles to find what I want to listen to.
