Paul McCartney- New Album for 2023

BJ On my 22 Track "Starter CD" (On this page) what are your favorite 5 or 6? and Why?A Love For You - Definitely one of my favorites, it has such a feel good, happy vibe. Love Paul's Ram-Like vocals. Paul did some overdubs in 1980 for the "In-Laws Movie Soundtrack and I think it's the best version.
On the Wings of a Nightingale - Another favorite of mine. Still amazing that Paul wrote this "On Demand" for the Everly Brothers comeback Album. Love Paul's demo version.
Yvonne's the One - Always loved this Unreleased song written by Paul and Eric Stewart during the Press to Play Sessions. Can't believe it didn't make the cut for either the finished Album or CD. Love Paul's Demo Version.
Loveliest Thing - Another terrific Ballad. Paul used the great Phil Ramone as his Producer and members of Billy Joel's Band. Great Electric Guitar Solo by David Brown.
Back On My Feet- I think that Paul's simple Demo is the best version. Just Paul at the piano and I love his vocals. Just my opinion, but I think it's slightly better than the released B-Side version. One of Paul and Elvis Costello Cowrites.
Flying to My Home - Love this Country / Rock styled Song. Can't believe it didn't make the cut for the original Flowers in the Dirt Album or CD. Love Robbie McIntosh's Lead Guitar.

@njr Streaming has taken over as the predominant music listening format. The Vinyl comeback continues to grow. But even with all the beautiful Deluxe Box Sets, like McCartney's Archive Collection, CD sales are disappearing. There are fewer and fewer CD outlets, and even Target has gotten rid of most new CD releases. Sadly but true, the shiny silver disc which all but destroyed the Vinyl business, is nearly at its end.
And that pisses me off! 🤬
Me too!!!!

I chose my 6 favorite songs on the proposed "Leftovers and Rarities" Album for 2023. What are a couple of your favorites from the 22 tracks?Of my 6, I do think there are a couple that could be released as "Singles" in specific categories:
-
A Love for You - for Top 40 Format
I think this song is a good candidate for "Top 40" because it is very commercial with a lot of Hooks. It also is a "feel good, happy type song for the younger audience. -
Flying To My Home - for Rock Format
-
Loveliest Thing - for Adult Contemporary / Rock and Country Format
Any other "favorites" from my 22 track proposed "Leftovers and Rarities" Album /CD. Any other songs that are commercial enough for a separate "Single" Release.

I made a mistake one of my favorite songs on the proposed 22 Track Leftovers and Rarities Album/CD for 2023. Let me repeat my favorite 6:A Love for You
On the Wings of a Nightingale
Yvonne's the One
Loveliest Thing
Back on My Feet
Flying to My Home
- On "Flying to My Home" I had stated that Robbie McIntosh played "Lead Guitar" on this great track. Actually Robbie didn't join Paul's Band until the "Off the Ground" Sessions began the following year. Looking at the musicians on "Flying to My Home", Paul himself played "Lead Guitar" and Hamish Stuart played "Slide Guitar". Either way the song is great in my opinion.

Maybe someone can post the "Flying to My Home" video here. Can't believe it wasn't on the original "Flowers in the Dirt" album. In my opinion, the "My Brave Face/Flying to My Home" single is one of the best of all time. -

Thanks for putting the "Flying to My Home" video on Maccaboard. This song along with "On the Wings of a Nightingale" and "Yvonne's the One" alone makes a strong case for Paul needing a "Leftovers and Rarities" type album.
I'm starting to come around to the idea of pulling MIA from this proposed album. It is too "known" and is already on multiple "McCartney" Solo albums. I just listened to the "Return to Lindiana" unreleased song and it could be a good replacement for MIA. "Lindianna" is certainly unknown/rare to most Beatle and Paul fans. It would probably have to be "edited" to make it a little shorter in length but it's a beautiful ballad.

Another reason for Paul to do this "proposed" album (Leftovers and Rarities) is that most (or even all) of these tracks are not presently on Spotify or Pandora. That alone would give them more exposure/airplay.
While I agree that it would be a "slow" seller initially, in the long run, it would be a strong seller.
Compared to other compilations, it definitely wouldn't have the "duplication" issues. Most Beatle and Paul fans eventually would want to own it in my opinion. -

The song is just called “Lindiana”

@njr
Thanks for posting "Lindiana" on this Site. I too thought the song was just Lindiana but I recently saw another video where it was called Return to Lindiana. Whoever made that mistake might have been thinking of the other song that Paul did around the same time...Return to Pepperland. I like Lindiana much better.
The major problem with Lindiana is that it's too long. It clocks in at 5:50. If it was shortened to around 3:00, it would be a very good choice imho.
Love the melody and the Lyrics are pretty good too.
If you add Lindiana to the overall track list (22 tracks) now you have all songs being "true" to the title...Leftovers and Rarities. -

One major problem BJ, the overwhelming majority of Paul's fan base is very old and not into buying music in any form. Heck, I don't think it would beat the sales of "Pure McCartney" (60,000) which was pretty bad. Once again, love the music, like the idea but it just is not very commercial.

Sorry, BJ, but I have to agree with Yankeefan.

I might be missing some of the criteria now for the album:
A Love you for and Daytime Nighttime Suffering are slayers. Killer songs.
I have to have Oh Woman Oh Why (one of my all-time faves) and Little Woman Love.
And I have to have It's Not True.
-
Toris. The main criteria for my "Leftovers and Rarities" idea are songs that were not on "original Paul and/ or Wings albums. It mainly includes unreleased songs, and B-Sides. If you look at the early Compilation albums from Paul, they did add "A-Side"singles like Another Day, Live and Let Die, Juniors Farm, Good Night Tonight, Mull of Kintyre etc. The only B-Side song that was added to a compilation CD was on "Wingspan" on its "History" Section.
That being said, a song like "Oh Woman, Oh Why" (B-Side to Another Day) would definitely qualify. I was considering "Oh Woman, Oh Why" for the proposed "Leftovers and Rarities" and I wouldn't be opposed to its inclusion. Same with Its Not True, Tough on a Tightrope and Write Away. None of those 3 Tracks were on the original Press to Play album. Again, I put together a proposed 2 Track Set for "Leftovers and Rarities" concept. It was just when we were considering a 1CD "Starter CD" Package. I had to limit the overall tracks to what I considered the best songs for this kind of Album/CD.
I like the idea of starting this "Leftovers" concept with a 2 CD Package because it opens up way more tracks from Paul's later period Solo songs. That would include special Paul songs from Soundtracks, Deluxe Editions of original Solo Albums, Paul later collaborations with other Artists etc. l hope this helps answers most of your criteria questions.
I don't think this would be a strong seller in the beginning but with carefully done "track selections" (not on easily available Paul albums etc.) and with strong marketing and publicity, it could be a good and growing seller. All you would have to see is the overall track list and it would be very different than the previous "Compilation called Pure McCartney". The songs largely do not duplicate all the previous Paul Post Beatles' albums and Compilations and they also contain Paul songs from special Soundtracks. The songs would speak to the Album/CD title "Leftovers and Rarities".
Thanks for your attention.

A couple of clarifications from my last post. The lone exception for a B-Side added to a Paul Compilation CD was "Daytime Nighttime Suffering. I think it was added to the Wingspan Compilation was Paul and Lind really liked the song they omitted from London Town and Back to the Egg.The other clarification is when I was talking about a CD package instead of a 1 Cd Starter Set. I think I wrote "2 track" package instead of 2 CD Package.

@b-j-conlee
Here's a revised 1 Cd "Starter Set". l tried to give these selections a little more balance relative to McCartney's full Solo Career. I didn't get any response to my "favorite or favorite's question" from my original "Starter Set", give me your 1 to 6 favorites on this revised one.Leftovers and Rarities
