It is amusing to wonder how many of us hard-core fans attended any of his concerts and thought to themselves “I can’t to wait to hear Fuh You done live tonight!” If any, I wasn’t”t one of them.
Funny how when McCartney II came out in 1980 I took a strong dislike to “Temporary Secretary” caused by the repetitive sequencer but ever since hearing it live in 2015 I really have liked it. Last year, I wondered if taking in “Fuh You” live in Knoxville would have the same positive impact. It didn’t.

As a fan who loves the complete works, I can only join you once again. As already happened so often in the old setlist thread For me it was no surprise that there were no surprises this time. It's still the same tour. How should anything change when he hardly changes anything between the tour names ?
It's just a pity that he can't come up with a solution like yankeefan2 suggested. This would surely make many of us more willing to spend money for another concert visit. Another point that has been bothering me for a long time is the question of a new live album. If you look at all the official live albums, a new live album would be overdue... If you imagine that only the setlist reportoir between 2010 and 2023 is put together creatively and every solo/wings is included, it would be a respectable list:Another Day
Listen where what the man said
HiHiHi
Ram On
Venus and Mars/Rockshow
Wonderful Christmastime
Hope of Deliverane
On the way to work
Everybody out There

Queenie Eye

The Word, All You Need Is Love
Things We Said Today
Your Mother Shoud Know
Another Girl
Eight Days a WeekIf you add the Soundcheck, you'd have songs like
I Don't Know, Alligator, Bluebird.Everything has definitely not been played 100 times yet...
After "Good Evening New York City" there has been no new live album so far, he only needs to add Hey Jude, Get Back and co. to this list and something really varied would emerge without much magic. Absolutely worth visiting and buying as a live album.Otherwise, of course, something in the style of Unplugged or Cavern would be nice. But how realistic is that?

Excellent Post John. My first thought upon looking at the Setlist for the first Australian Show was to borrow an old Marvin Gaye song title is "What's Going On".I really liked most of Paul's most recent albums...McCartney 3 and Egypt Station. Where are the "best songs" from those terrific albums?
Nothing from McCartney 3 which is criminal and only "Fuh You" and "Come On to Me" from the highly underrated Egypt Station. To answer John's question, I doubt anyone in the audience was saying to themselves...I hope he does "Fuh You".One of the most respected music journalists (Rob Sheffield from Rollingstone) loved most of Egypt Station but he thought "Fuh You" was its worst song. In contrast, he thought that "Dominoes" and "I Don't Know" were 2 of Paul's were best Solo Songs ever. So what does Paul do...he not only plays "Fuh You" on the first leg of the "Got Back" tour, he trots it out again for the the 2nd Leg of "Got Back" in Australia.
I do not understand Paul's love for this song which on top of the title itself, says nothing lyrically. He does "Fuh You" at the expense of far better songs on the same album. As the Australian leg continues, I sure hope that this exact Setlist doesn't continue. Just my opinion.
-
Besides the songs you mentioned on "Egypt Station" why not song like "Who Cares" which is up-tempo and has great message instead of "Fuh You". I even like the songs (In A Hurry & Home Tonight) much better, and he left them off the original "Egypt Station" album.
I don't really see any major changes, the most he might do is throw in "Women & Wives" one night. If he does anything besides that I will be truly surprised.
Years ago, we wished for more solo songs and when he did not do as many as we would like at least he did a decent number of songs off his most current album. Fast forward to 2023 and we are lamenting that he is not even doing one song off his latest album.
Paul is not stupid, he does these legs of a tour in places he has not been in many years. This way he can basically do the same setlist because it is new/different for his audience. This means very little rehearsal needs to be done.
In the end, he will put on good show and the audience will love it and they should. It is just disappointing for people like you and me because we would love people to hear more of the great music he has written this century (lol).

I just read an article in Rolling Stone Magazine from October 19th 2023 titled "Paul McCartney Delivers the Greatest Rock N Roll Show on Earth." Sounds like, as usual, it was another Great McCartney concert in Adelaide. In the article the author wrote:
"As with all McCartney shows, there are touchstones in the setlist that will always resonate. To hear an arena sing the na na na's in "Hey Jude" is sheer joy; his tribute to George Harrison was a ukulele led "Something" is sublime; John Lennon appearing via Peter Jackson's cinematic genius for "I've Got a Feeling" was profoundly moving - and further enhanced by a stunning new coda McCartney has added to the song."In another part of the article the author wrote:
"To see him riffing on his 1963 Hofner Bass or sitting at the psychedelic piano and leading us through his unparalleled catalogue is a thrill. The voice somehow became herculean as the night wore on - who else would drop "Helter Skelter" two hours in and tear it to shreds? The author. ended the article with " In Adelaide last night, McCartney delivered the greatest rock and roll show on earth, a triumph".
If you're a McCartney Fan and you get a chance read the article you'll enjoy it.
Hopefully he'll play Europe and or the U.S. so I can see this concert!

@yankeefan2 Good ideas but like you said that ship sailed a long time ago. I am afraid the Captain won’t make any drastic changes so I just try to be content that is he still alive, can do things like Egypt Station and Macca III and still wants to go out to perform. He is putting smiles on thousands of faces in Australia at a time. Yes, I was disappointed that “Find My Way” didn’t find its way on stage but I honestly think he wanted to keep everything the same as it is easier on his band who, after all, had no appearance on III with the exception of Slidin’. No new songs to learn keeps it simpler. He has kept them happy for over 20 years and perhaps little things like this help.
Yes, the captain won't be making drastic changes -- "despite repeated warnings of dangers up ahead."

Sorry, guys, as much as I want to hear more "rarities", it's not about me or you or us.... we represent about 5 per cent of an audience that goes to see Paul. Maybe 6.69 per cent. If that. I just saw Paul again in Melbourne, and it was awesome. Wonderful. Sublime. But I was very aware of the crowd not knowing particular songs. A lot of the crowd didn't even seem to know She's a Woman. A lot of them stopped their voice when he sung "Letting Go".
I bought tickets for my daughter and her boyfriend, and I wanted them to have a great time. And, I was very aware of the drop-off when lesser-known songs were played. (And I really, really do not like Come on To Me or Fuh You... he should've played something better there!)... and the whole time, I was just wanting my daughter to enjoy it. So, I was aware of the songs being played. And, yep, I'd have liked more obscure songs. The ones I love. The ones you love. The ones we love. But, as I said, in another thread, it's not about us minority-folks. It's about the vast, vast majority. Because they are the ones that drive the atmosphere and the energy of the concert. I'd be wetting myself if he did Beautiful Night or Smile Away, or So Glad to See You Here, and so many others. but that 93-95 per cent of the audience would be hearing those songs for the first time.
Sorry, don't mean to be a downer. We are a minority. And I think Paul is doing the absolute right thing in playing those hits that we all know. So many of them, that not even Yesterday gets a gig!
The Melbourne concert was BRILLIANT! .... Paul was completely on top of his game!

Sorry to hear your uncle passed away, my condolences to you and your family.
In regard to Paul, the old Beatle song he played was "She's A Woman". He could have picked worse Beatle songs, but wouldn't it have been cool if he played Beatle song he has never done live like "Rocky Raccoon". Now that would be something exciting and would get plenty of "YouTube" views. Still boggles my mind he has not done "Find My Way" from "McCartney III". Still a bunch more dates on this tour so maybe he will shock us - ha ha.
Don't tease me.... If he had done Rocky Raccoon, I'd still be in the stadium twenty-four hours later. In a state of crippled delirium. That's on my wish-list... of course, a few of us would be intently listening to those opening lyrics.... Sorry, gals! Can of worms is closed!

Ok. This place is a downer though to a lifelong fan who hasn’t seen him before and took his family and had the night of their lives and is still on cloud nine. Life’s too short. We all feel beyond extremely lucky to be able to see him at all. It’s an incredible blessing to be able to witness his work live and in person. And a wonderful show it is. I thought this may be a place to share some joy. I can see why it is so quiet here. I won’t be the first to check in looking for like minded souls and check out after witnessing unreasonable negativity for what was, to me and loads of others, nothing short of an incredible experience
In interviews he’s been saying there won’t be many changes as he’s happy with the way the show works. And I see why , what a show it is. I hope if Paul heads your way again you can find some joy in it should you go. Thanks for having me briefly in the forum. Wishing you all the best.
Come back, Squawk.... Don't leave. It's a great forum. Just.... lots of different views. We all love Paul.

@yankeefan2
Glad you mentioned the terrific songs Paul left off of
Egypt Station... Home Tonight and In A Hurry.
Now that we're well through 2023 and 2024 is just around the corner, I still think my idea of a new (and interim) album "Leftovers and Rarities was a good idea for Paul. Why not an Album full of "Leftovers" that never made his original "Post Beatles" Albums /CDs. His "Discards" are better than most "Artists" out there. Here would be my partial list of great potential songs:
- A Love for You ("Ram" Leftover)
- On the Wings of a Nightingale (Written for the Everly Brothers)
- Yvonne's the One ( A "Press to Play" Leftover)
- Loveliest Thing ( A "Flowers in the Dirt" Leftover)
- Flying to My Home ("Flowers" Leftovers)
- Back on My Feet ( "Flowers" Leftover)
- My Old Friend- Written by Carl Perkins during "Tug of War" Sessions)
- Summer of 59 (A " Chaos and Creation" Leftover)
- I Want to Come Home (Movie Soundtrack)
- Long Leather Coat ("Off the Ground" Leftover)
- Home Tonight ("Egypt Station" Leftover)
- In a Hurry ("Egypt Station" Leftover)
- Vanilla Sky (Movie Soundtrack)
- Turned Out "New" Album Leftover)
- Whole Life (Paul and Dave Stewart Collaboration)
- Cut Me Some Slack (Paul and Foo Fighters Collaboration)
- Love Come Tumbling Down (A Flaming Pie Leftover)
- Rainclouds (A "Tug of War" Leftover)
And this List is just off the Top of My Head. Something like this would at least give all the fans a new CD to buy.

I have seen Sting several times over the years and he has been excellent. His setlist is predominately songs from his solo albums. If I had to guess, I would say 1 out of 3 songs played are "Police" songs. I also am a big fan of Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) and have seen him on solo tour twice. The overwhelming majority of his set list is from his solo career also and the few Fleetwood Mac songs are mainly at the end of the show. I can also say both these artists played songs from their most recent album at every show. While these guys are big time rock stars, I know they are not icons like Paul. That being said, I am sure they want to please their audience but they IMO want to show they have more to offer than songs from their famous group. My brother in-law saw Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) & Alison Krauss this year and the setlist had only 2 Led Zepplin songs. BTW - my brother in-law loved the show.
I have said many times I get Paul is playing for 95% of the audience and that means bunches of Beatle songs. That should not mean he can't replace "Dance Tonight" or "Benefit for Mr. Kite" with songs from "McCartney III". You can't tell me a couple attending the concert in Australia is chatting before the show and says "Gee, I hope Paul plays "Benefit for Mr. Kite" tonight -lol .
Finally, I almost find it insulting after 40 years of buying McCartney solo albums he thinks so little of us who have lined his pockets with cash for decades that he can't maybe do more songs we would like to hear. He is 81, not going to change. Oh well.
Enjoy the shows Australia!!!

I agree that I'd have preferred Come on To Me and Fuh You being replaced. Or Benefit of Mister Kite. Dance Tonight actually came across pretty well. But, yeah agreed, those songs could've been jettisoned for something else from his solo career.
All those years ago, I saw Whitney Houston and Alanis Morisette.... no problems there. They only had one album, so they were playing their latest album and greatest hits at the same time!

I understand his playing Come On to Me, which was his most successful radio single in a couple decades. But Fuh You did nothing chart-wise and isn't particularly loved by fans. I don't expect a show full of rarities, but in the slots he's reserved for recent material he could have changed things up a bit. And since he does a fair amount of Wings stuff, how about giving Let Me Roll It -- which he's done on pretty much every tour since dinosaurs roamed the earth -- a rest and plugging in With a Little Luck or Arrow Through Me? Oh well, it ain't happening and there's no point in continuing to gripe.

Bruce, if he did With A little Luck and especially Arrow Through Me..... don't get me started.... I love those songs! It would be awesome.

Paul has stated his wife Nancy loves "Let Me Roll It" so it is staying in setlist -lol.

@yankeefan2 just what I was going to say.

@5th-beatle, they didn't include all the concerts in Brazil, unfortunately. Maybe they can release an updated edition, but I don't know
